Should the default thread notification be changed from, 'watch this thread' to 'stop watching this thread' ???

Hi peeps wave
It’s been a while since I’ve started a thread, and I’m not sure I’ve ever started a poll, well maybe once many years ago but hey dunno
I am getting increasingly annoyed at missing posts on threads I’ve posted on (rolleyes bear with me) simply because I’ve forgot I’ve posted. (ok ok I know, I feckin busy ok! )
I am a member of several (non swinging) forums and ALL of them automatically send you an e-mail when a thread you have contributed to gets a post / reply. For someone like me who’s current situation leaves little online time this is ideal as it a) reminds you where you’ve posted, and b) stops you looking like an ignorant barstuard when you miss a comment directed at you in a thread.
So (at last  )
The Poll question is …………..
Would you prefer to be automatically notified when a thread that you are a member of gets a reply? Bearing in mind there will always be the option to “stop watching this thread”
Or
Would you rather rely on memory and don’t really care if you miss something or not.
In good old SH tradition I’ll go first ……………. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESE automatically inform me when a thread I’m a member of is replied to because I have the memory of a goldfish and hate missing out on replies.
we do have the option to be *notified* prior to submitting a post though don't we Pete?

... Pete?

Pete if you look at the bottom of a thread that you post in it asks if you would like to watch topic. Think it also asks when youpost in a thread as well.
Suppose you have to remember to tick the box though.... I dont cos im a dizzy moo! confused
I've just ticked it for you, Pete, so you should get the emails regarding this thread at least, but you'll need to do your own in future!! lol

rolleyes
That’s the whole point I was trying to make, sorry folks blame the drinkies
What I should have explained was that I continuously forget to click the "watch this topic" button and having no short term memory what so ever :silly: I always forget which threads I’ve posted in, then some poor unsuspecting soul replies to my comment (which i never see coz i forgot ) and thinks "oh i say, how very rude" or words to that effect.
So, certainly for me, it would be so much easier if the button actually said “stop watching this topic” as the default setting (a simple switching job for the webmaster) so those who really do not want to be reminded of their posts can switch the function off, but those of us who have a slight memory deficiency  can be reminded of the bollox we posted the night before redface
Doesn’t make any more sense than it did before does it dunno
The other alternative Pete is when you log on if you check your own post history, you can see which threads you last posted on.
I find that much easier

nice one
Rather than get your email box filled up with replies you can use the "Recent Posts" button from the main forum index, click on this and it gives you the option of searching for posts since last visit, your posts unanswered posts and a list of members... I use this to quickly check the my posts part of it as it shows the topics and if theres been any reply since I was last on... here:
flippin' eck pete. If you had an e-mail everytime a thread you were in was added to your inbox would be totally full. (you have returned with a vengence)
I voted no.
Well that would explain a lot. I was really hurt Pete when you didn't respond to my post asking for your permission for me to sit on your face
