Another Torchwood fan here redface
I actually found the combination of Dr Who style script and storyline combined with such a high level of sexual content a bit weird for the first couple of episodes, they didn't seem to go well together, especially because the first two episodes appeared to contain every possible fantasy of a pubsecent boy lol

Well yah bugger, not only do I find out I missed the sexy bit with the flying woman but I now find out I missed all the sexy bits right at the start. Although I must say that one with the daughter from "My Family" had some interesting bits.
i missed the finale, but i thought it was a very good series..no sonic screwdriver tho confused
i'm just going by your statement earlier......John Barrowman is an actor.....he will do what is written in the script.....so i guess it was the writer that gayed it up...as you put it!
Mr powers stop being so stupid!!
The writer wrote a real macho hetrosexual storyline, they advertised for a completely straight acting actor.
He then got the job but improvised every take to "gay it up", the writer was furious but they had no money to re shoot it.
Get it??? rolleyes

Yes you did
My understanding was that The Captain Jack character was from the future and therefore doesn't subject himself to the gender / species boundaries we are used too. So I'm not convinced about the Gayed up bit also think what Owen got up to with the pheromone spray in an earlier episode boy could we all do with some of that !!!
I have enjoyed Torchwood nice to see some Sci Fi for grown ups and particularly liked the one with the girl that shagged men to death very amusing !! Also liked the fact that the good guys screw up from time to time just like real life ahh
Looking forward to the next series and captain Jack's rejoining the Doctor in the next Who series....
I really need to get out more don't I ?
look you lot, behave rolleyes
its just about human nature, not past or futuristic, just us, as much as we try to be oh so sophisticated it always boils down to the same thing:
It's new
Can I Shag it?
if not, can I eat it, is it crunchable?
if not lets just take the piss out of it, and if that doesn’t work , we’ll just have to kill it dunno

Torchwood........................brilliant!
And for fans of Captain Jack........................................
The Doctor's companion Rose first met Jack during the London Blitz in 1941, where he was posing as an American volunteer in the Royal Air Force. Rose and the Doctor had come to that time and place in pursuit of an alien cylinder that had crashed on Earth. Rose had accidentally hitched a ride on a barrage balloon and was about to fall to her death when Jack rescued her with his ship's tractor beam. Jack's ship — a stolen time ship of Chula design — was capable of concealing itself by turning invisible, and included in its systems nanogenes, which could treat wounds.
Jack was a former Time Agent who left the organisation after discovering that two years of his memory had been removed, going in search of them and becoming a con man. Mistaking Rose and the Doctor for Time Agents as well, he tried to fraudulently pass off the cylinder as an abandoned alien warship with a view to selling it to them. Jack believed that the cylinder was nothing but a hollow and empty medical vessel, unaware that it was actually filled with billions of nanogenes, which began transforming everything they came into contact with (The Empty Child).
Jack assisted Rose and the Doctor in deactivating the nanogenes, but lost his own ship when he transported a German bomb on board to save the others from being killed by it. The TARDIS managed to rescue him before the bomb blew up his vessel, and he was taken on board as the newest member of the crew (The Doctor Dances).
It became apparent in the The Doctor Dances that Jack was bisexual, an orientation which the Doctor pointed out was more common in the 51st century, when mankind would deal with multiple alien species and sexuality would become more flexible. In Boom Town he flirted with the Doctor in front of Mickey, and the Doctor played along. He is the first companion to be anything other than openly heterosexual; Steven Moffat suggests in the Doctor Who Confidential episode "Welcome to Torchwood" that questions of sexual orientation do not even enter into Jack's mind. Some suggest that Jack is "pansexual", although Jack himself has only displayed attraction to people who fit into the gender binary of male/female. John Barrowman describes Jack as bisexual, and went on to discuss bisexuality in an interview. Jack himself refers to categories of sexual orientation as "quaint", noticing the reactions of his teammates to Gwen's kiss with Carys in Day One, implying a disbelief in total monosexuality.
In Bad Wolf Jack became the first regular character in the programme's history to appear naked on screen (not counting the Third Doctor's shower scene in Spearhead from Space and Sergeant Benton at the end of The Time Monster), albeit discreetly shielded by strategically placed props. However, the BBC vetoed the production team's original intention of showing Jack's buttocks. In The Parting of the Ways Jack kissed both Rose and the Doctor good-bye on the lips, the latter being the first such same-sex kiss in the programme's history (not counting a similar kiss between male warriors in "The Ribos Operation," although that kiss was between the lead villain and his right-hand man).
Jack organised the defence of the Game Station against the Daleks in The Parting of the Ways to give the Doctor enough time to construct a Delta Wave projector. With the rest of his volunteer squad killed, Jack was the last to be exterminated, facing down the Dalek guns with quiet defiance rather than the traditional screaming deaths of Dalek victims. Although Rose brought him back to life while she was suffused with the power of the time vortex, neither the Doctor nor Rose (whose memory was affected) seemed aware of his resurrection and left the Game Station in the TARDIS, leaving Jack behind.
In the Children in Need mini-episode, Rose suggests to the recently-regenerated Tenth Doctor they go back for Jack. The Doctor, in turn, replies that Jack is busy "rebuilding the Earth". How much either knows about Jack's status is unclear; the Doctor's comment suggests that he either knows Jack survived or wants Rose to believe he did, while Rose was not present when Jack died.
Executive Producer Russell T. Davies stated in Doctor Who Magazine that Jack was left behind because they wanted to explore the effects of the Doctor's regeneration (at the end of Parting) on Rose, since Jack would have taken the regeneration "in his stride."
Jack was originally reported as reappearing in the 2006 series, but did not do so due to scheduling conflicts. Barrowman, however, has confirmed that he has signed on to return as Jack for Series 3. The official Doctor Who announced on August 10, 2006 that this appearance would come in the series finale, and Davies told Doctor Who Magazine that Jack will appear in "multiple episodes" in the second half of the series. Barrowman revealed that he would appear in three of the final four episodes of the third season in a yet-to-be-disclosed storyline, and that he would be the only actor from "Torchwood" to cross over into "Doctor Who

I thought I'd got one over on my 7 year old when I told her Captain Jack would make an appearance in the next series of Dr Who.
"I knew that ages ago!" she says.... "It was in my Dr Who magazine".
Kids! When will I learn? rolleyes
As a big sci-fi geek, I hated Torchwood.
I love Captain Jack and want to get in his pants and everything, but the show was awful. Dr Who has been great fun and Captain Jack was one of the highlights of the first season, but Torchwood was embarrassing. I wanted it to be really good, because I want more Sci-Fi on TV (specifically, I want the Strontium Dog TV series all us geeks were promised, and another season of Firefly...)

Have you seen the sonic lipstick?does it create a blast in the mouth?
Gotta agree with G-P. Torchwood is pants.
It suffers from what most tv Sci-Fi has inflicted on it which is writers who know next to nothing about the genre. They therefore write hackneyed cliches and think that they're being innovative and daring. Worse, they think it doesn't matter if the stories have little logic or sense. The same is true of the present series of Doctor Who. rolleyes
As for who gayed up Torchwood, it was clearly the same man who Welshed up both it and DW - Russell T. Davis. If any actor consistently portrayed a character in a way the writers and especially producers disliked they wouldn't be working for long. Look at Mr Davis' past credentials if you want to know why few people were surprised at his gay storylines. Torchwood, though, is a poor -and rather obvious - attempt at combining Buffy and The X-Files. And if it didn't exist then the BBC might have the budget to take the Doctor off Earth occasionally.
But, hell, if it gets more people to watch the genre maybe it's a good thing.
Sadly, Firefly (which was innovative, imaginative and well-written) is extremely unlikely to ever return, especially as Nathan Fillion now has a burgeoning career in truly shit movies. American acotrs rarely return to telly from film.
Firefly? Isn't that the series that the film Serendipity sprang from?
Sorry, but that was a truly DREADFUL film.
Torchwood was pretty good from where I am sitting. Not Totally brilliant, as to reach that status it would have to better the Dr Who episode "The girl in the fireplace" which showed Russel T does know how to write SciFi.
I accept Torchwood has not been everyone's cup of tea, but it is new. It might be labelled SciFi, but it is trying to be something else, SciFi for an adult audience, which I don't think we have had on British TV before have we? I think it needs another series to settle down.
In this series, there have been some really good episodes. The one about the cannibals was one of my faves. I will admit to being a little unnerved at times during that episode. And I agree with the comment earlier about the episode with Owen and the aviator. It was one of the better ones. But there have been some really dreadful flops too. I thought the finale was very weak. But as I say above, I think it needs another series to find its feet.
Don't want to get into any arguments, but I really don't see the gayed up thing either. I think the comments in this thread that sum it up for me, were the one about bringing us into the 21st century and the pansexual one too.
JB is gay, and I have to say, when I saw him interviewed, I thought he was great. He presented an image of "I maybe gay, but there is so much more to me than that" which is frankly what I would like to see more of in similar circumstances. Rather than "This is my sexuality", I would prefer to see "This is my capability". The character of Captain Jack though (for me), is more about someone who was plucked from the planet (I did say plucked) and shown all the diversity of the universe, and that for him, there are no barriers between gender or race. I maybe wrong, but that is what I see.
I do also agree with the comment about better SciFi on TV. I am not a SciFi nut, but I do enjoy it and I do think that as a genre, well thought out plots are few and far between on TV. I think SciFi has become super geeky, when really the SciFi genre ought to appeal to many more people, because in essence it celebrates our ability as a race, to imagine things that don't necessarily exist yet (probably) lol
Torchwood is a good start. A bit like the latest technology in your front room. Bloody expensive to make, a bit clunky round the edges, but you just know that in six months time, a much slicker version will appear. I hope so!
I'm sure I saw an interview with JB and I'm sure he said he'd played the character as a "bi" male. If I remember from the early episodes there's interactions between Gwen and Cpt. Jack that could be construed as both caring or suppressed passion emotions.
Oooo it's all going like a Dr. Who forum now. lol
Just a quick change of subject.....anyone see The Friday Night Tennant was guest starring......it was very funny.....Seeing David Tennant in drag was very funny,he looked like Liz MacDonald from Coronation Street,he was very convincing!
Yes I think you're right, though I don't recall that in the interview I saw, but then I'm not sure where he was being interviewed when I saw him. Forgetfulness, must be my age rolleyes Why I felt it was broader than that, was based on how the character appeared to me during the series. As I said, my interpretation smile
It wouldn't surprise me to see that relationship develop as the series go on. Speaking of Gwen, I am sure I didn't miss a single episode, (then iagain could be my age again :lol2:)but what happened with her and Owen? One minute their at it like rabbits (the fluffy kind rather than the plastic kind) next they seem to have fallen out big time. When did they fall out exactly? Anyone know?

And on the subject of Dr Who, did anyone see the Dr Who concert on TV at xmas? I'm not sure if it was the LSO but the orchestra and the choir who performed the music were fantastic!

I definitely missed episodes. I didn't even see them being rabbits.
However, I did see Cap'n Jack on Buzzcocks, he was great, hilarious. Enough to...never mind I'll not go there.

Not really sure. Like you, I felt they were at it like hump and all of a sudden Owen's back to :wanker: It just seemed to stop. I think the implication was that Gwen felt guilty about her shitty treatment of her other half and decided she couldn't continue with Owen.
Must admit I did think that this part of the continuing plot was a bit weak and sort of based on "We're an adult program now, so we need to have shagging in the story somewhere." rolleyes
Heard somewhere that at some point over the next few Doctor Who series, we'll find out that Jack and the Doctor share a closer bond than we first thought :eeek:
