dunno Just a quick question about booking a room at the local travelodge (if anyone can help) as we have never done this before.
I’ve seen quite a few posts on here saying, they have booked a room at a travelodge & asking for others to join them. What i would like to know is this, will we have a problem with booking into a local one or not? Obviously we will have to give our name & address & as soon as they see we are from the same town will this cause a problem? Or is there a way round this like giving a false address?
also after booking myself & my partner into the room, how do we get round the problem of then getting the 3rd person into our room without any questions asked.? As im guessing they will all have receptionists in the main entrance & everyone has to book in.?
Can anyone please help?
Thanks

Easy this when you book over the net you can book with your card in your name but say the room is for another person (prehaps a visitor from out of town) Just make up a random name and bob s your uncle. As for checking in once you have your key you can stroll in or out as you wish and no one bats an eye lid. But also I book a family room (at the same price) and then just specify how many adults are staying. When you book in if they question why you have stated 3 or4 adults and only 2 are booking in (but trust me they won't) simply say they are joining you later. smile

They might speculate privately about why you are booking into a local hotel when u live near there but there wouldn't be a problem, they wont question it or anything.
Personal experience with us and Travelodge has been.....check in as normal, one of you go out to meet your guest, both of you walk past the reception, give them a nice smile on the way past, and walk straight to your room. We have never been questioned or stopped.
If you are, its simple, you are going out together and your friend has come for a drink with you at the hotel before you go out! But I would be absolutely amazed if you were even questioned. If you were stopping for a couple of weeks and kept bringing a strange person to the restaurant with you everyday for a cup of tea and three straws they might be inclined to investigate but a single nights stay isnt worth a raised eyebrow! lol.
Hope you have as much fun in the Travelodge as we have had

It really is as simple as that, honestly.
Just another tip, the walls aren't very thick so shouting JESUS F***ING CHRIST can bring a few disgruntled whingebags knocking at your door lol.
Hope you have a great time

We have never had any bother either as the extra two going to a couples room ie four walzing past reception, or as booking in and taking another couple up to our room. Even had fire alarms go off and all of us have to leave the room and be counted out redface surprisedops: Still nothing was said.
If the hotel is in your home town, just say that your grown up kids are having a party at your house (assuming your old enough) and your keeping out of the way, but close enough to get home quick if needed!

There is no real problem with them, I use them all the time for buisness and pleasure, however, they now require ID for cash if you don't use a credit card, and if there are two of you, they normally need names, however, Mr and Mrs Smith, doesn't raise eyebrows anymore.
Nowadays, once you have a key, they are never sure who is there or not. Holidayinn Express are a little different, especially in Brum City Centre, they have asked me a couple of times if the young lady I was with was registered!

Having worked in the hotel business off and on for many years, I can assure you that there is no problem. Morality or lack of it isnt in the staffs brief.
Certainly this is true of the major chains, although smaller family run establishments may be a bit more resserved.
The bottom line is that the hotel is a business, so long as you arent causing a nuisance then there should be no problems.

If you're booking through Travelodge then you might be lucky enough to get one of their £10 or £26 rooms so booking 2 rooms instead of 1 ( and still saving money ) won't cause any raised eyebrows................errrrr just a thought redface

I don't think the reception staff really care why you're there. It can be pretty obvious when you don't know your partners car registration or whatever, and it certainly is when you check in at 12:00 and check ouit at 4:00.
I was nervous the first time I used a hotel, but I booked on line and it was fine.
btw I used an Ibis hotel because you can check in there at 12:00 rather than the 2:00 or 3:00 at most others. I just wondered if any of you know any other chains that do early check ins, as I'm meeting a friend later in the year and we want somewhere about half way between us and there isn't a convenient Ibis.
Cheers

I thought I was paranoid
I once booked a travelodge for a threesome. Arrived first and booked in (I was actually staying the night), then when the couple arrived (and she was dressed hot), I met them at reception and the three of us waltzed past the receptionist to my room.
We had a cracking night until the leg of the bed fell off lol
Another time, I booked a travelodge and Six of us ended up in my room biggrin
I must check out another tenner room.
Regards

In answer to the question...
1 - they don't care as long as you pay!
2 - they have seen it all before!
3 - there are other resons to book into a local hotel other than to get some rumpy pumpy - i.e. having building work done, having your house fumigated, fire damage, letting a teenage son/daughter have a party.... so on.
4 - they have no idea half the time who is booked in or not - as at some point they will have changed shifts and some people do stay more than one night.

Many thanks for the replies; it’s really put our minds at rest on how easy this can be done.
the reason why we have decided to give this a go is because we can not find anywhere local outside where its private, so this is the only other way round it, plus i guess it has its bonuses, when we have done we can clean up properly without having to wipe the grass stains from off our knees & explain to the kids how we got them redface LOL
Thanks again.

It's worth checking out their website. They occasionally do really cheap rates. They never seem to fall when I need one though.......

Peterlg,
i understand what you mean, and if anyone does know of a chain that let you checkin earlier id also love to know.
my partner lives a hour or so drive from me, and he cant drive at the mo either , so we were going to have a day of work and meet up in a hotel near him. Sadely i we both only had til 4-5pm and as check in is after 3pm it wasnt really worth booking the room.
so any other hotels would be good to know about

Reminds me of a story lol...... and its true!
We booked a nice country hotel down in Hampshire but when we arrived were more than a little dissapointed at the quality of the room and managed to swap to another.. still not much better but time was running against us so we just accepted it.. we met the couple down the road in a pub and after a few drinks agreed to all go back lol..... well a little later 6 of the 8 legs on this bed had broken so after our guests had gone we complained (this is about 4am) We not only got a refund but they also gave us two nights in a fab hotel in Oxfordshire and ended up with Sir Winston Churchills Honeymoon Suite lol...
Trust us hotels really do not bother what your doing so long as your curtious!

I know Premier TravelInn let you check in from 2pm. We use them regularly when travelling. We also prefer them because they all have a restaurant and bar attached. I wouldn't vouch for the food, but if you've booked a hotel thats out on a limb its nice to know there is a bar adjacent. Also, in my experience you can often get from the bar straight through to the rooms without going via reception again, so if concerned about appearances this might be more comfortable for you.

we dont see the problem with ppl booking rooms in the same town as they live , think the problem there is ppl getting to concious thinking about what the other ppl think in the end what does it matter where u from and book a room in end its all money to them wink

I did this once and stayed at a hotel about 10 mins from where I live. When I saw the receptionist was dying to ask, I just told her that our son was having a party in the house and this was the only way we were going to get any sleep that night. Feck me, daft cow believed me too ! :giggle:

what polo said!
they will not give a flying one! people walk in and out all day long. if you expect some harassed, underpaid receptionsit to even take notice of you, well . . . . . they've got better things to think about. so long as you've paid, who cares? ;)
neil x x x ;)
p.s. oh yeah . . . the walls really ARE that thin! move your bed away from the wall at least! :P

never had a problem at all and i have used them dangerously close to home lol
your only problem may come if you are personally recognised by someone at reception.
you do get strange looks when you check in alone and then walk past the desk later on with a couple lol.
i think they know the score and say nowt...or they are too embarrassed!!!

I have used them in the past and walked past receptionist repeatedly bringing in stereo system, speakers, laptop, bags full of nibbles, bags with booz.
Just smile and go about your business. biggrin
In addition to the ppl already listed you could also be :-
-out of town relatives attending a wedding, party, or whatever
-sales people meeting up day befpre a meeting
-people on a training course....
