Twat on a bike!

Quote by Jags
I can hear the melodic tones of 'Convoy' starting up now. All we need is Sheddy to drive his 30 tonner (now I made that one up!) right into the heart of this thread for it to be complete. Do he know which way he's going yet??? North? South??
lol

well don't ask me.......... redface ...........he did tell me where he was going but I have no sense of direction surprisedops: but hopefully he'll manage to crash into SH towers at some point.......
Quote by lilacgem

Nope..........you're absolutely right and when we lose momentum inevitably it causes delays for all involved, cars as well as trucks. We all have to learn to share the roads together and have a bit of consideration for each other!

No worse than the delays built up by twatty truck drivers taking 5 miles or more to NOT overtake the truck he's almost inside of to start with! Seems to be a total lack of consideration for anyone other than himself.

*disclaimer for those hard of understanding - personal opinion only based on years of traveliling behind said twatty truck drivers. never had when travelling in official SH vehicles*
flucking brilliant post eager, personally and thats what makes this topic so excellent i can see the cyclist even when the road is full of traffic of all kinds and yet the cyclist is to busy concentrating on the road ahead to see or hear me coming, tunnel vision some cyclists , they really make me laugh!!
love you eager

I really cant see what the beef is here dunno
Should they have to follow line-a-stern all the way to their respective destinations just because some people think they dont overtake quick enough ??
The fact that trucks were going too fast,in some peoples opinion, was one of the main reasons that they were forced to fit speed limiters to them which in itself makes overtaking another truck even more difficult...
Has anyone seen Dambuster any of our other resident truckers yet? lol

I have no problem with overtaking being more difficult Steve - read my original post! It's when they take a long time/distance to NOT overtake which I have focussed on.
Love it when opinions start to come out.....

he did say that when he finished his bike ride he was gonna pop in and say hi....

And it's goodnight from me.
I would hope to have a brimming PM inbox with comments both negative (no swearing) and positive (no body fluids) by the morning.

Sometimes the manouvre(sp?) ends up not being possible..
Without the aid of a crystal ball I doubt they would know that untill they tried though..

I want you all to think yourselves very, very lucky rotflmao
I've just sat and typed as full an explanation as possible as to why we take so long to pass each other, and why it's "important" to pass the (even slightly) slower moving trucks.
Covering 16 speed gearboxes, power to weight ratios, sleeping in laybys, speed limiters, and a whole host of other crap; but the system timed me out and I forgot to do the select all/copy thing.
You'll just have to wait and see if I ever get round to boring you shitless and making you suffer a thread called "Uncle Dammy's Top Driving Tips" :rotflmao:
Oiii ! ! ! !
It were good an all . . . .
Me getting all techy about engines and gearboxes and splitting; and . . . . at my most tactful and diplomatic redface

I've asked you to keep on topic, which was about what I percieved as a twat on a bike. If you want to have a whinge about truckers would you go and start a thread of your own somewhere else please? Thank you.

smackbottom bad jags.......
Sorry Eager, I have to say the cyclist was doing nothing wrong, and if you didn't leave enough room for yourself to manouver safely, then that's your fault.

lol

30 tonner  I haven't driven a piddling eight wheeler in nearly 10 years if it don't bend in the middle (well 3 quarters up really) It dont get sheddy in the driving seat. 30 bloody tonne I've had bigger tonka toys
Right as a genuine bona fide truck driver whose family own a haulage buisness and as a child I spent every school holiday I could away in them and someone who after all these years still loves the smell and sight of them, and also I beleave there is nothing more impressive than a skilfully driven artic, who also really does listen to Meat Loaf and country and western whilst wearing a white vest and was raised on 70's trucking movies my opinion on all this is...................................
yep thats right I don't have one It's late I've just had a long shift and I'm only here in the vain hope jags will see it in the morning and leave a flirtatious comment for me :inlove:
<<<<<<<<<<<< walks off safe in the knowlage he is one of the few that doesn't make her squirm, whilst singing to himself.....................
Eastbound and down, loaded up and truckin'
Ah we gonna do what they say can't be done
We've got a long way to go, and a short time to get there
I'm eastbound, just watch old Bandit run
Keep your foot hard on the pedal
Son, never mind them brakes
Let it all hang out cause we got a run to make
The boys are thirsty in Atlanta
and there's beer in Texarkana
We'll bring it back no matter what it takes
Eastbound and down, loaded up and truckin'
Ah we gonna do what they say can't be done
We've got a long way to go, and a short time to get there
I'm eastbound, just watch old Bandit run

Ah we gonna do what they say can't be done
We've got a long way to go, and a short time to get there
I'm eastbound, just watch old Bandit run
Old Smokey's got them ears on
He's hot on your trail
And he ain't gonna rest 'til you're in jail
So you've got to dodge him, you've got to duck him
You gotta keep that diesel truckin'
Just put that hammer down and give it hell
Eastbound and down, loaded up and truckin'
Ah we gonna do what they say can't be done
We've got a long way to go, and a short time to get there

Oh go on I'll add a serious comment, Whilst breaking no laws the cyclist was in a dangerous position on the duel carrageway not through any wrong doing on their part but for the simple fact some people seem to forget that dual carrage ways ARE NOT motorways they are open to pretty much everyone from cycles and mopeds, tractors all the way up to the biggest of trucks. Hell some even have (the A14 included) points where public footpaths cross them so they are even open to pedestians in parts.
I know trucks run too close at times and I'm guilty of it from time to time but if your driving a truck and your sat square behind another one whose trailer rear is 13' 6" x 8' you need to be a hell of a long way behind him (i'm talking damn near a half mile) before you can have good vision of whats going on in front of him which really isn't feasable as if you need to over take (i'm not getting drawn into why we over take but suffice to say we all weigh differant and have a HUGE variation in horse power so at times it has to be done) you have half a mile of thin air to catch up on before you even start to overtake the one in front at which point eveyone behind has got the hump with you and some (not all but there is idiots who wil do anything to shave minutes off a journey) will undertake passing through a blind spot that you could hide a 3rd world country in then apear in front giving ya the finger  not something I like as I'm a sensative soul
anyhooooo truck drivers can do a bit to limit the chance of an accident but at the end of the day accidents will happen especially with a wide variety of vehicles in speed and size using the same road.
I once saw a tractor hanging over a railway bridge and the tracks  only being stopped from crashing down by its trailer that was still attached to it and on the road(ish) and that was caused by a truck in front having to pull out to overtake and the one behind not being able to slow down in time. 44 tonnes at 50mph takes a lot of stopping I'll tell ya.
There is bad truck drivers out there just the same as there is bad car drivers, cyclists, doctors, traffic wardens, mechanics etc, etc, etc
They are all doing there job just some better than others so please dont tar eveyone with the same brush biggrin
The cyclist may of had the right to be there, but cycling on a major A road is stupid. I hate cyclists, they are the most law breaking of all road users. NO tax, no insurance, no lights, go through red lights, up one way streets the wrong way. I'm afraid that is the majority, not the minority.

Thanks a fookin lot I go and put together a well worded and thought out post my first like that in ages and you follow it up with that pile of shite lol
Yep they may bend the odd rule but your telling me you've never broke a speed limit in your life or broke the highway code whilst driving? anyone that claims hot to have done so is a fookin liar simple as that. We are humans not machines we all take risks make errors or just plain and simply get it wrong smile
Just to clear something up for me. I hope one of you truckers can answer this.
Is it true that all trucks are now limited to a certain speed, with speed governers fitted ?.
Every group of road users has its idiots , Im probably guilty of doing stupid things more times than Im aware. But must admit that overtaking trucks , two abreast cyclists and tailgating cars are my biggest bugbears on the road
Quote by Jags
Don't get the impression that I think ALL other road users are rubbish. I don't. SOME truck drivers are arrogant to the point of danger. SOME car drivers are arrogant to the point of danger. SOME cylclists are stupid to the point of danger. We have to share the road - live with it.
cool

Think I hit the nail on the head earlier in the debate! NO tarring and feathering from me.

Having no tax or insurance is not breaking the law for cyclists - it's not required by law. Now, common sense, that's a different thing entirely.

Sounds like a lot of road users to me, does this comment!
The arrogance of the bike rider doesn't seem to be the topic here, as if riding a bike makes you arrogant (more like it makes you fitter!), the arrogance of the other road users seems more appropriate. If people were less angry when driving I'm sure there would be less accidents.
Quote by sheddy
you have half a mile of thin air to catch up on before you even start to overtake the one in front

Not in reality because you usually get some twats in cars that will fill the space between you and whatever is in front just so as they can be ahead of you rolleyes

I'm no trucker, but did a lot of motorway driving the other year and a lot of the irish plated trucks appeared to be doing 70. So the answer is that UK plated trucks are limited? Am I right?

To the best of my knowledge Irish trucks are also speed limited but thats another story wink
All trucks running under EC rules (with a very few exception) should be limited to 56mph ish - 85kph.
Some companies actually set them lower. The last firm I tramped for had them set at 52 mph
But to save half of one percent of fuel costs can be quite a lot of money if you consider a fleet of 50 ++ trucks doing an average of 70/80/90 thousand miles a year running at 8mpg
Just for perspective - my best fuel bonus payment was £1200. A very nice little tickle just before Christmas thank you very much
One thing to bear in mind about relative speeds - The tacho (speedo) in a truck is required to be more accurate, and is required to be checked and serviced more often than the one in a car. They need to be checked (and adjusted if nec) every two years, and recalibrated every 6 years whether they need it or not.
I'm not 100% sure of the actual numbers (it's a long time since I took my paper qualifications redface ) but it was something like a car is "allowed" to have a 10% error; trucks I think were 3% - something along those lines.
Obviously - reliability and accuracy has moved on since the 80's surprisedops:
