Yes, a lot of students are a pain in the arse. But as Steph says, please don't tar us all with the same brush.

Ditto!
I am not a mature student and I am fed up of the notion that young folk can't swing and that this site would be better off without the student type......... pray tell me what type that is.... for I am now very curious? confused
Sod you, I don't actually give a shit what you think tbh. I am just stirring the shit for a change. Shock horror, a student has emotions, opinions and intelligence!
Put them down quick! Vermin the scrounging dirty lot of them.
Tell that to my fucking uni loan of over 10 grand which I will have to pay back out of my own wages. Did you have a free education? In which case shouldn't you all know better than us green in the gills wet behind the ear inexperienced scum?

/Venus decides this is NOT the time to mention she was once an art student. Venus is also wise enough to determine that now is definately NOT the time to mention that she is not working within the art industry..........

I will....students are nothing but a bunch of tax dodging spongers in my eyes...they should get of their lazy arses and find themselves a job that benefits the community...the lazy sods!!! evil evil evil
well I only just got back to this thread, when I saw it 1st it was just 3 replies long, now its 4 pages
and guess what, at 43 I hope to be returning to university myself. A medical condition has fucked me up and stops me doing my original trade, so now I am a lazysod who lives on the dole

I obviously hit a raw nerve with alot of you...but that is my opinion of students..
if alot more concentrated on their "studies" rather than spend their well earnt time surfing the net at the college or universitys exspense then people like me wouldnt get upset..
as for all the abuse been hurled at me...I wouldnt expect anything less from people who do just sit on their backsides and go from course to course and dodge work!!!! mad mad mad
in my eyes all students are twats
rolleyes rolleyes

I know a lot of students, a friend of mine is just finishing her 2nd doctorate, she took a few years off from working just to do the 2nd doctorate, thats costing her over £150k a year after tax for every year she dont work. She decided at 39 that her doctorate in pharmacology (which she begun aged 19) wasnt what she really wanted after all, (she only spent half her life using that doctorate for the benefit of others so obviously she was a lazy sod as well), so instead she is studying to gain a doctorate in Languages which wont help many people at all, just the lazy sods that want to go to university to learn other languages
You Sir ( and I use the honorific very hesitantly ) are in my opinion, very small and narrow minded, it is persons such as yourself who start rumours and misconceptions that rapidly grow out of proportion causing major damage and harm along the way.
I would presume you to be a single male, so are you a twat who pervs at every fem on the site, sending PM's to the fems offering yourself to them, without reading their posts to see if they are looking for somebody like yourself, are you another of the chatroom muppets that will pvt without asking? Thats the opinion about single men after all, that all single men are the same as that, when in truth it is a tiny minority who behave in such a manner, yet it is that tiny minority whose actions are remembered, and the vast majority who behave well are tarred as being the "single male".
You have with your statement proved that you are very small minded, according to your views, a simple extrapolation from which would show that all single men are total fucknuts, as a single man I resent that, as a single man who hopes to become a uni student very soon I resent the view that all students are lazy sods scrounging throughout their lives
Becuase a tiny minority missbehave does not mean that the majority will be the same.
because a single muslim commits an act of terrorism by your view all muslims are terrorists, because a single catholic living in Ireland commits a terrorist act against a protestant your view says all catholics are terrorists, because a single woman and a single man kill some schoolchildren all single women and single men are killers of schoolchildren
I apologise to any persons who I may upset with this post, it was not intended to cause upset, it is not aimed at being hurtful, merely to highlight how being narrow minded can bring about great injustices

I have not agreed with what Ant has said, so I have ignored him on this point only.
I agree with most of what you said about the tax and paying your way through higher tax, etc. But please keep personal insults out of this, and making reference to a recent mass murderer is bad taste, in my opinion, as there could be users of the site that had family as victims. To hope another person is dead, is a dreadful thing to say. Like I said, I did not like Ants post but I would never wish harm to him.
Veejay, this is not a personal attack......just my thoughts my friend
Dave_Notts

I take your point (not in a physical way though!) and genuinely hope nobody is offended.
What got me angry was how he continued to carry on defending his original statement, even though many people had tried to tell him otherwise. He just sounds like the very people this thread was started for- a tw4t. Probably not genuine either.
I personally don't mind paying high taxes (which we do in this country). If only the govt got its act together and stopped the wastage. When road tax is paid, you'd expect to be able to drive on decent roads. And Nat Ins is meant to help for the NHS, I say no more........
Rather than bunching all students together, why doesn't anty realise that blair is to be held responsible. There is much more wasted in other sectors than gets "wasted" on education.
I agree that we have too many silly courses like "beer drinking" etc so that blair can say the youth unemployment has decreased. ( I know that young students drink alot of beer, but is there a need to teach them how to?), but I don't see how someone can group everyone together.
And I wouldn't want somebody, even like ant to meet an premature end (one of my mates was a patient of shipman's thankfully he was fairly poor and young). Though I'd like to give ant some laxatives, if the cr4p came out of his ass, then maybe there'd be none to come out of his gob?.

Good for you. In my time at uni, I've seen men aged 50 go to study a 5 yr masters in pharmacy (in the same class as his teenage daughter). One of my good freinds is about 45 yrs, she has grown up children too! And in another case, theres an uncle/nephew pair in the same class too. So 43 isn't going to be that old, there are enough mature students wheer I am, they have their own society where you need to be above a certain age to join!

Ummm - mature student studying right now! confused
Agree with Calista though - wouldn't dream of using a uni computer for SH!

As a former lecturer (& student), well said Rainbows & Callista. The fact that some students are very immature & cause a problem on sites like this, does not mean all should be tarred with the same brush. That's like saying all swingers are perverts & a danger to children . Clearly that is not the case, despite the fact that there will be some people in society who think that is true rolleyes .
Any large organisation, including colleges & universities, use software to block access to "unsuitable" sites from their networks. However there are ways to get around this, although I'm no expert, so users can often circumvent these measures. At the university where I used to work, a student would suffer the consequences if evidence was found to prove that they were looking at sites like this one.
I,m going to say my bit for two reasons
1). i had to break the ice an actually post on this site sometime, opposed to just reading everybody elses.
2) Yes you guessed it i,m also i student. I will happily admit that i am lazy but thats all part of the fun of being a student... but sterotyping is so last year!
My uni doesnt block anything.... we can watch as much porn as we wanted if we deemed it neccessary.. (i don't) not at uni anyway)
i dont feel it is my place to critisize some of the seemingly small minded people on this site and certainly not with my 1st post..
anyway i was like a whole week late on this post.. but maybe its like pringles once i post i wont be able to stop..
cheers SeanO
