Maybe some of the older or current members may help me. The penny has just dropped that when i was a young squaddie in Chatham(1981)under the tutelage of a civvy driver, we used to spend our lunch breaks watching people at it at various locations around Chattenden. We constructed a labyrinth of trenches/rat runs over time to observe people at it and even installed a couch. My we thought we were clever.. (altho we were creative and its good for the figure missing lunch for six months) Its just dawned on me that they wanted to be watched duh....and now its a national pastime. Is there any gandfather rights for dogging as i may be one of the sports unwitting pioneers.
Can anyone shed any light on current activities at chatham/chattenden. The regulars in the brown 1980 merc convertable blowing kisses should have given the game away.

I think you'll find Dogging has been going a lot longer than that... When I was a wee thing, Mummy would never let me go to certain parts of the local park because of the 'Dirty Old Men' that would lurk in the bushes. And that was in the 60s and 70s.... and some will tell you Dogging goes back further than that - possibly to the 40s and 50s.
We just packaged it into a nice, respectable name and made it an honest passtime.

EEK!Flashback..some schoolfriends and I were out by the canal one day,around about 1970..and we saw a couple in a field,the man had his trousers down etc on top of the lady etc humping up and down etc..we SORT of knew what was going on (- we were only kiddies remember in more innocent times than these!)..little did we know we'd invented dogging!(?)
