Quite possibly.
Richard M. Nixon once said "There will be no whitewash, at the white House"
I really don't understand the negative comments?
Give the guy a chance before you dislike him .... lets face it, he can't do a worst jobs than the last few can he?............. and he might even help the world see people as people and NOT a colour!

you have to expect the negative comments...i mean this is a politian after all...not the messiah like everyone seems to be painting him as!
excellent point fabs well put hun
i for one was overjoyed to see obama win and it had absolutly nothing to do with the colour of his skin he has been the first polotician to inspire hope in me i don't know what it is about him but he really does come across as a guy that cares about his country and the people in it rather than himself like all other poloticians just a damn shame none of our own poloticians do the same
i do totally see why the colour of his skin is a big deal to the older generations it must be absolutly amazing for those that have suffered opression to finally after all they have fought for to finally feel accepted and i cried along with them at the joy they must feel to see such a major acheivement that really did happen in thier lifetime
the great thing that has happened for me is an interest in polotics that i have never had before i have promised myself to take a real interest in our polotics at home to make a full and informed choice as to who i vote for in our next election and not to ever vote for some silly fluffy party just because i have no idea about what any of them stand for
so huge congrats obama i look forward to following your term in the white house and look forward to seeing the changes you long for good luck mate

ps:- Fabio = do we know the date of his inauguration yet confused:

20th of Jan
I got this a little late as I'm still recovering from some quite serious injuries.
I'm going to be totally blunt here, it matters no more who is president of the US than it does who is Prime Minister of the UK. We are simply being fooled into believing that there are fundamental differences between what are merely just different flavours of capitalism. It doesn't matter whether your views are considered extremist, dead centre, or left or right of centre. We have all been led to believe that these are the only options we have to chose between, and that there is no alternative to one world global capitalism.
Nothing is going to change until people start behaving, and moreover thinking, as individuals. The liberal capitalist "utopia" has failed, but we will be expected to add credibility to it's continuation by supporting it at the voting polls.
Me? I am thinking of moving to Russia, for a better quality of life! sad
Am made up as like Lewis Hamilton, President Obama will show people of colour around the world that they can be more then just singers / rappers.
It will also change people's attitudes for the better & it's a story of hope.
The world needs this in 2008 yet am sure that President Obama will get the job done.
John McCain & Sarah Palin would of been like The Riddler & The Joker running riot around Gotham City....

If I was a black guy I think I may find that slightly offensive.
There are black guys all over the world who have been successful without being a rapper. I was over the moon Lewis won but not because he is black but because he deserved it, and is a thoroughly decent guy. It seems you are streotyping black guys as nothing more than singers or rappers, which is just not true.
It should never be about a colour issue, for me both Hamilton and Obama were best at that moment. It should not make one jot about the colour of their skin. I like both of them....hardworking decent people.

Agreed, Kenty. For some people though, everything is about colour.

I really dislike it when people make it a colour issue, which then leads to a race issue. It did not mean a shit to me that they were both black, they are both nice guys and I know Hamilton cannot sing so lucky he is a good racer then.

i didn't even think about his colour when he won...the fact that he English...or British what ever your preference is...was the reason to celebrate

I have heard these sentiments from quite a few "black" people over the last few days....
pardon me if i'm wrong but this does seem to be a common theme and many people have a similar shared view.
I suppose that Wonderhorse and those others must have a point and clearly believe that this is true...
I agree.... Obama winning must give those in minority groups hope.....

Not to mention Morpheus and his little red pill
Anyway, it's not as if anything is gonna change. It never does regardless of who the president is. Partially because the president is pretty much a figurehead with the real power going on in the background. C'mon, does anyone seriously think Bush is up to half of what went on through his leadership?
It makes no difference, other than making a number of black folks happy, whether Obama is black, white or sky-blue pink (though with his name it's not as if he's Swedish!).
Before people get all orgasmic about this new, young buck I think a healthy dose of cynicism is in order otherwise there are going to be an awful lot of disappointed, not to mention let down, people around in 4 years.
For example, look at all the "let the young guy clean butt and kick room!" bollox that went on when Blair got in, and look where we are now! rolleyes
The worrying thing under Bush was that even though he may not have been responsible for everything, he still had that ultimate power, of being able to press that red button, the same as Obama has.

That's an urban myth, there are safeguards so that one person can never be in total control of the button, not even the president.
Let's face it would YOU totally trust a person who can't even say the fucking word "nuclear"?
In respect of the race issue, I think it is worth remembering that when Barack Obama was born, African Americans didn't have the right to vote. He has risen to the highest polictical office in his country within 50 years of the civil rights struggle.
I write this as a white person who has lived in the American South and who has spent many years studying the history and politics of America and, in particular, slavery and its impact.
It is historic. It is momentous. And it is incredibly moving. For a people who had for so long been disenfranchised, this election will prove an inspiration.
I received a text message from a friend of mine in Louisiana and then funnily enough I got two more copies of the same message from friends in this country.
It read:
Evers, the first martyr, gave us fortitude.
Rosa sat so Martin could march.
Martin marched so Obama could run.
Obama won so our children can fly.

It moved me to tears when I received it within hours of the result being announced.
Google Medgar Evers, Rosa Parks. Look at the dates of when they were making their lasting impact on the civil rights struggle. Think about MLK and when he was standing on the steps telling the world about his dream.
Then think about the impact it has on people who previously always wondered about the unspoken institutionalised glass ceiling that many feared still existed despite gaining voting and other civil rights only 40-something years ago.
It does mean a lot to people and the significance of having a black First Family in the White House is hugely symbolic.
There are parents who really are now saying with real conviction to their children, "You can do it! You can fly."
And from a personal perspective, I'm just pleased that the man can string a sentence together and deliver a speech - much easier on the ear! wink

That is brill Nola.
I never thought I would see a black president in my lifetime, and to be honest I doubt many Americans did either. I can understand their elation.
For a man to have risen from humble beginings to the biggest position in the world is amazing. The more I see and hear him, the more I am convinced he IS the right guy.
