load of bollocks...... cos your risk of cervical cancer rises the more prtners you have, they think girls who have it will think 'yeah now i cn go and shag as many guys as i want and i wont get cervical cancer'
which is totally crap as how many people....adolescents or mature people KNOW or are aware of the HPPV and class it as an std??
not many im betting, so i dont see how it will lead to promiscuity......certainly not more than handing out condoms with the afternoon snack IMHO
Oh ffs this is rediculous. These girls (and boys) are going to carry on having sex anyway. If the vaccine will stop them dying because of it......
The government has seen fit to stop cervical cancer screening for under 20's because it is 'very rare in women below that age' (read - too expensive)
Bollocks! Excuse my French. I was 18 when I was diagnosed with stage 2(A) Cervical Cancer and had I not been screened then would probably be dead by now. Theres every possibility it was down to my own promiscuity but no one taught about the dangers of HPV back then (i'm talking 10 years ago - not the dark ages either) If they aren't going to educate then they damn well need to do something to stop it.
I went through 3 rounds of treatment over 3 years and 3 times was told it was back. I was weeks away from Radiotherapy before I was given the all clear. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
This school wants closing down with an attitude like this. Quite frankly to me, it's tantamount to manslaughter

People under 30 (unless directly affected by cancer) have bugger all idea of the implications of it.
Kids under 20 are absolutely convinced they are immortal. The concept of risking cervical cancer from sex - in fact of risking anything in many cases - simply doesn't exist for them.
Getting vaccinated would have zero effect on their sexual behaviour.
The school may have an argument about the tested status of the vaccine as they claim (I don't know) but what I believe they are doing is forcing their religious beliefs on their pupils. But since it is a Catholic school, that is exactly what they do every single day. So I can't see what any parent is complaining about. They chose to send the kids to be in that environment. And hard-core Catholics believe that if you stay ignorant you will stay safe. And we all know how well that works.

As a Catholic, I find that line offensive. And your anti-catholisism comments in general!

I don't intend to be offensive, but a policy of banning condoms, saying that abstinence is the only way for millions of African to protect themselves from AIDS is hardly a policy based on reality or compassion. And I feel that choosing to make this vaccine harder to obtain for parents who want it for their children is unacceptable and selfish.
And I am against ALL religion-based teaching, not Catholic schools alone, as people should make their own minds up about their beliefs, not have them imposed by parents, teachers or, in fact, any other person.

Contemptuous
If I'd made a similar comment about muslims I'd be flamed as a racist bigot!
Yep..and dont we know it. lol
Oh fgs. At the risk of hijacking completely.....troll? (or just plain argumentative shit stirrer?) rolleyes

To be fair, both Catholicism and Islam are religions not races. So I could be accused of religionism, but disagreeing with (or disapproving of) a doctrine is not an ism, it's an opinion. And, as far as I know opinions have not yet been made illegal.
Feel free to correct any details of fact, or to disagree with my opinion. But I am allowed to express an opinion.

So I'm not allowed to make a comment when I take offence at a sweepin comment made about those of my religious denomination.

I am Catholic and took no offence at all. It's pretty much true what's been said about Catholicism. It needs dragging and kicking into the 21st Century. Especially when you consider people DIE from following what is precticed these days.
I've not been back on here for long but from what I can see from your posts (and is my opinion based on what you have presented) you are petty, argumentative and hell bent on shit stirring. As for your comment on 'after all, I still want to get meet's' with that attitude??? Good luck to you sir!
Like I said, my opinion. No doubt you will rebuff this and prove my point. Many others seem to think this also. Obviously we are all wrong.
Oh and sweeping comments.......I won't even bother quoting from your many posts where you've done this.

And it's not illegal for me to find your opinions offensive, but when all said and done, i acceoted you aology, but the self appointed powers that be, then piped up and said i had no right to take offence or comment on that offence.
And I didn't call you a racist, I said if I attacked the muslim religion I'd be called a racist bigot, and what you said was bigoted.
Let's not fight. I'm certain my opinions are simplistic. I don't like organised religion, I simply don't trust it - but I don't have an axe to grind against people's individual beliefs. My comments certainly weren't a personal attack on you.
And I do whole-heartedly apologise for causing you offence. (Also for being picky about the racism/religionism thing - couldn't help myself there.)

I am a Catholic and didnt find what foxylady said offensive, because it's true!
Educated by Nun's who NEVER spoke about sex, sex education, boys was assumed if you don't talk about "dirty" things they wont happen. Absolute bollox!
How many people die of AIDS because the catholic church believe birth control/condoms to be wrong? Absolute bollox!
How many kids have had kids because they were taught nothing about safe told not to do it at all. Absolute bollox!
I hope I haven't offended anyone ....... that wasn't my intention
In my head my "god" is good and I dont belive he would want young girls dying of cervical cancer as a punishment for having sex out of marriage.
It's only my opinion though! :rascal:

So am I, and I didn't either. I also totally agree with the rest of your post
If a teen wants to be promiscuous they will be so regardless of an injection.
The injection will help fight cervical cancer, that can only do good.
We had the same banter and the same accusations when we started holding contraceptive drop in sessions for the kids - they're still going strong, still successful! lol
For anything that's good sexual health related, there'll always be the 'old fashioned Head's' that will try and put a dampner on it.
I took offence once.........but the guy found me and wanted it back...... rolleyes
Leave it up to the Catholics to leave common-sense at the font. rolleyes
Guilt over pleasure, cervical cancer over safety, don't just love the pious prats
On the brightside most of the parents at the school have said the governors are barking mad and they intend to have their daughters immunised away from school.
Probably be a different matter if it was the alter boys needing a prick!
I read it first as "Vacations" leads to promiscuity.........What goes on tour stays on tour......

I`m a bit lost on this one. A school is claiming that giving a vaccination that will help prevent cervical cancer will lead to promiscuity.
It seems they are not going to allow vaccinations to take place on school premises.
Won`t this put children at risk ?

How did you move from a school banning the vaccine to people slagging off the Catholic Church.
The school has taken the decision to ban the vaccine not the church, the Diocese in question is not stopping anyone from having the vaccine, nor is it preventing schools from allowing the pupils to have it - its a decision made by the school.

It could be just me, but the fact the school is a Catholic school and one of the governors who banned it is a Monsignor might have something to do with it. Along with the fact that the reasons they give has basis in the doctrine of the Catholic church.
