Hello all, thought I would run this past you and see what you think.
Well, I had been thinking of going veggie for quite a while, and discovering my other half was veggie gave me the push I needed to make the change. Since I have, my IBS has gone, its helped me lose weight, I have more energy and feel much better in myself. I think it has also helped my depression, as I am eating loads of fresh fruit, and cooking with fresh veg (much cheaper too) and not taking in any E numbers or nasty chemicals. I grow my own fruit and veg in my garden too, so I know its organic.
Quite a few "people" recently, when I have told them that I had gone veggie, berated me. Saying it wasn't good for my health. Well of course I disagreed!
My real friends have noticed how much better I look, and are happy for me. I don't know why people are being so nasty to me for being veggie!
:confused2: :confused2: :confused2: :confused2:
What do you guys think? its upset me a lot over the last few days...
Hope you all have a good day!
PS if you have any really good veggie recipes please pm me or post them here for others to share!!
:wave2:
I have been eating Buddhist for a few days, that mean vegan, no garlic and onion. I have to say that I loved it, but do not ask me for recipes, they are a guarded secret!...but loads of colour, variation and taste.
As for you having more energy, I can not comment, as I have been a vegy all my life.
Hiya,
I have been a veggy for around mmmmm 25 years. I couldn't supply you with recipes as I just cook. I don't actually follow recipes. My son eats meat and I often cook two different meals at the same times.
I do, on a fortnightly basis, make a soup and a soya mince based recipe and freeze it. This 'does' for meals when I want to take things into work or can't be bothered to cook when I get home.
If something works for you then carry it on. have fun.
As a confirmed carnivore, all I can say is that if it suits you then go for it, and to hell with anyone who disagrees. There are many millions of veggies in the world. Your improved health is most probably because of all the fresh fruit and veg you are getting, but beware that there are some vitamins such as B12 that are more difficult to supply from a veggie diet, so its worth checking what veggie foods have them.
My two eldest kids are both veggies, cost me a bloody bomb shopping lol
I have a few friends of which some maybe vegetarian i don't know, its not a consideration in whether i/we like each other. As for you feeling so much better then yes it probably, but maybe not exclusively, is your diet, though being an omnivore is certainly not bad for a person either. The fact that you look so much may come across in your demeanor and mood too. If your happier now than you have been of late that would of shown also I would of thought. the equation feel good = look good look good = feels good, maybe have relevance.
Be philosophical about it if you start looking bad people will soon enough tell you about it. Up until that point then if your life has improved generally and is improving then hey what is IT they say on cheap american T.V shows - "you go girl"
It's either jealousy or ignorance... :2fingers: to them all... it's your life your body.
Don't let the sods grind you down, you do what you feel is best for your health x
Just don't listen to a word Splendid says- she's way too partial to the "odd" sausage :giggle:
Seriously though- good on you, if it works for you. But stay away from the smell of cooking bacon.....:scared:

lies and damn lies. rolleyes
Fuck 'em. They don't have the right to tell you what toilet tissue to use much less what you eat.
Personally I'm a died in the wool omnivore and can't see either the purpose or the fun in having to check what's in the tin just in case.
But it's your choice, you have perfectly valid reasons for doing so but they most certainly don't have any excuse for their behaviour.
Thanks for the support.. it means a lot! I am going to carry on being me.. and I will tell people "if you don't like what I am... you know where the door is!"
:thrilled:
Quite right too, you eat whatever suits you and it's no-one's business but your own.
A veggie diet can be a bit thin on certain trace elements and sometimes protein, but a little reading up and plenty of variation in the meals will sort that out.
I went to Cranks once years ago (posh veggie restaurant in London) and had the WICKEDEST trifle ever. All cream and cake and custard and gorgeousness biggrin:D:D:D:D:D
I'm a dedicated omnivore but I love loads of fruit and veg along with my steaks. I reckon I'm pretty healthy.
I have been a veggie since I was 11. I am now 36. It's much healthier not to stuff dead animals down your gullet.
Good on anyone who goes veggie

Hi Foxy, (and everyone else!!)
Thanks for replying... I have actually got a really good doctor, and i'm taking a supplement called Forceval which has all the trace elements I might be missing while I suss out my diet... she can see what a difference it has made to me, and is all for it!
Thanks again xx
:smile2:
I never use diet supplements, there is non need for them, if one's diet is balanced.
Iron is available from both blood and spinach.
Omega 3 is available form both fish oil and the place fish get it, alga.
Add the fact that the human body can manufacturer just about anything it needs. True with some exceptions, vitamin B being one of them.

Being Vegetarian is not down to choice but also suitability. I do not know when we will get round to understanding that everybody is different, nutritionally, as well as everything else.
Everybodies metabolisms are slightly different. I have two sons both of whom were vegetarian for their first years and that changed when they went to parties where sausages abounded! However, one is keen on fruit and the other is really keen on veg (even sprouts!!). Mum was happily vegetarian until the sausages came along.
For me I was verging on the vegetarian when I met my (to be) wife and was veggie at home for a while but I could never quite get my metabolism round being veggie. There were other factors such as playing a lot of sport which is a common problem in preventing vegetarianism. Also it was quite a stressful time as the relationship moved forward quite quickly into house and kids mode. None of this helps.
My brother has made the leap and it suits him. A good friend of mine and one of the most intelligent women I know is vegan. Both hold down demanding and important jobs, are popular with colleagues and friends and are very healthy active people. Probably becasue they are free of the effects of eating too much meat in a normal western diet.
What people really do not like is anyone who makes a concious decision about their life and chooses something that is right for them and is justifiable. It makes them vulnerable by showing their ignorance. Also, historically, the first people to buck the trend are geniuses and nutters which automatically castigates vegetarianism, the pioneers of which looked ill and pale - no recommendation.
Do find out what suits you though!
Can anyone thing of a better description for an alternating veggie/carnivore rathere than variable omnivore?
bon appetite!
Shay
ps a big factor in what you can switch in your diet is what you were trained to eat before the age of ten. As you become conditioned gut wise by what you are brought up on in those early years.

But thats why supplements were invented...
For people who dont like to eat the foods that naturally contain vitamins and minerals mentioned above....
No point forcing yourself to eat something you dont like when you can buy the vitamins it contains over the counter..

I wasn't brought up a veggie, but when my late husband was ill, I didn't have the time to prepare fresh food and relied on junk food. Which didn't do me any good at all. Too much coffee and fizzy drinks too.
I made this choice on both ethical and health considerations, and health wise it has done me the world of good. I am fitter, this time last year I could hardly walk 2 miles without getting breathless, since I have lost the weight and gone veggie, I regularly take my blind friend out for a four mile walk, and enjoy it. I am toned, (so my other half keeps telling me!!) my skin in clearer, my eyes sparkle (yet again from my other half) and my IBS has all but gone.
For me, its worked, but it might be different for someone else! We are all different, wouldn't the world be boring if we were all the same??
Thanks for dropping by xx

You eat exactly what you want!
Meat I can take or leave wink
I eat everything, and I love cooking, so I love trying all sorts. I have cooked meals for veggies and for vegans ... but nowadays I would much rather cook what I want to cook and not be dictated to by my guests; so I would urge you to accept all sorts of food when you are out, and not make an issue of your preferences.
That said, here are a few ideas:
A starter: Chop up a little ginger and fry it a bit in olive oil with some nice mushrooms; add a bit of cream to make a nice sauce and serve with watercress ... you'll be left wanting more ... which is as it should be for a starter.
Main: I love cheese souffle .. it's very easy ... lots of recipes everywhere; remember to add mustard powder and use a really strong cheese. I butter the dish and tip some breadcrumbs into it and roll it round so the inside is coated with crumbs before I pour the souffle in ... makes a nice crusty edge to the finished product.
Or: boil up some pears with ginger and plenty of sugar so that you have a very sweet mixture; whizz it with a blender, then freeze ... makes a lovely sorbet!
And if you fancy coming over for dinner ... I'll think of something different, and veggie, lol!

You've given me some good ideas!!! I don't make my diet an issue hun, I just want to carry on feeling well! Someone gave me a wrap the other day, and didn't tell me there was meat in it... I got home and my IBS started so I phoned them and asked what was in it... they thought that if I couldn't see it, I wouldn't be ill... They have now been told!!!!
You're not too far away from me... might come for dinner you never know!!
Thanks de-sade - I am eating more spinach, which seems to be helping, and the supplement i'm taking, Forceval gives me the other things that I need, and like I said, my doctor is behind me on this which helps too!

Not after they are dead
Seriously, I've never taken vitamin suppliments of any kind. I eat all sorts of sweets, mainly processed food, and though I do eat some fruit now and again (OK, I had an apple the other day, and I did buy some bananas, so the thought was there), I rarely touch veg. I drink 2l diet coke a day, my liver must be shot. I rarely drink alcohol though but when I do I binge. And I smoke just to keep my hand in at annoying people that hate it wink . I am a medical marvel really, I should have conked out years ago. But I am fighting fit and as happy as a pig in shit with my diet lol
My wok is getting a bit of a bashing now, has some really good recipes sent to me...
Thanks!!!
I’ve been a veggie all my life and only eat meat that has a pulse, it’s given me my youthful good looks bolt
