Has anyone got any expirence of using this?
I have just downloaded a program called .(it's a beta test program)
I will not be able ot test it utntil tomorrow.
Apparently it will allow you to phone a land line or mobile for a small cost.
Also you can talk with other computers for free.
You must however have broadband for it to work.
I've used before, lots of my friends use it and rave about it.. but yes, if you're on Broadband you can 'call' other users for nowt.
We've used at work... it crashed out the first couple of times but seems fairly stable once you've got it set up. Quality is reasonable and it's free.
I've been using for quite a while and have a number of friends using it. Calls are nearly as good as the normal phone.
There are one or two things you need to do:
Make sure the privacy is set right otherwise very Tom, Dick & Harry can call you.
Make sure the microphone is positioned correctly i.e. so you don't get feedback and so it doesn't pick up the sound of the fans in the computer.
I highly recommend using .
Well I've heard of , I installed ... and now all I need is someone to call!
ps at the time i installed it the ability to call conventional phone numbers was 'in the pipeline'.... have things moved on since then?
I don't have adsl at home, so this is more exploration than anything.
As a mac engineer I heard about this so thought I might check it out.
I thought where else to find nerdy poeple like myself. SH thats where.
Hence my question.
Once again it has turnede out to be true. Question asked, question answered.
Cheers
PS
BTW
If anyone installs it and uses it, let me know how it is working.

As I've worked from home for a good few years I pay a fixed rate for my phone bill and get local and national calls "free" in other words unless I call a mobile phone, my phone never reaches above £15 so the more I call people the cheaper it works out (and I do use the phone a massive amount).
Not too keen on pc based calls etc .. as someone above says .. once your hooked then the charges start.
