I know, I know - the 'V' word(s). This isn't about whether we should do either though.
What's the difference? I think they amount to the same thing.
there isn't a difference, still open for abuse...i mean who vouches for the person doing the vounching?
Good point.
Vouching is allowed, even sometimes asked for in the case of newbies or not very well known people, for munches and socials.
Is vouching the same as positive verification? Yes I think it is. It is a vote of confidence from a third party. And as such should be subject to the same caveats.
If you were vouched for at a munch, would it be a ....
muncheon voucher rolleyes

I agree. And I think it's open to abuse either way. If you refused to vouch for someone, wouldn't that be like negative feedback?

Therein lies the main difference methinks. Verification implies the need to confirm whether something is true or not. This carries the suspicion that someone is being disingenuous.
Vouching is a solely positive action.
The other difference that struck me is vouching seems to have a verbal connotation (less formal) and verification a written one. Just an impression.
dunno
.
in the old days vounching didn't really happen...if you were a newbie there was normally a cut off date of when you could go to a munch/social...your status didn't matter!...now people are using the social title to get around having to invite certain people.
If someone asked me to vouch for .....I wouldn't..... biggrin

Not just that, I once put my name down for a social, to be told no, because there was enough single males on the list, and the organiser wanted to even up the numbers

For what, if it was a social?

For what, if it was a social?
"this social has too many single guys, so, unless you can maybe find a female to come with you, I'm going to have to say no"

seems the person organising that one seemed to forget it was just an event to socialise, what difference would it have made bringing a female?

 still don't get why - as long as everyone knew who was going, nobody's likely to complain are they?

Yep on hot buttered toast as well :giggle:
i do think the idea of someone vouching for someone is good for oganisers. its more use for things like socials...where less strict rules than munches apply. I myself recently organised a camping social. Now as far as I was concerned if I knew you or had been on site regualr for 6 months then there was not a problem. However I didn't want to send away others, but at same time did want to make sure they were genuine. All I asked for was that someone else that had been her for a while to vouch for the fact they were who they say they were, and 100% genuine. For example withoput this it could even be a banned member re-joining and out to cause trouble.
