There is currently a email bot harvesting emails from the SH profiles, as such a email has been sent to us with the attachment with the subject line Sex from neil fubar. You are advised not to open this email and to delete it as users of will find that there antivirus scan isnt picking the virus up yet in the attachment, your not safe delete it imeddiatly. secondly to prevent harvesters from picking your email address up your advised to select "hide email address" in your profile options this whont stop people contacting you but will prevent bots from sending you dangerus mail
The proliferation of virus is down to people not taking basic precautions such as installing anti virus software, and not opening suspect emails - especially those with attachments.
You will probably find it is not a bot that is trawling the site for email addies, as most if not all bots do not support session id's - which php based forums use. More than likely it is a site user who has the virus, and you happened to be in their address book - the virus sends itself to all addresses in the infected PC's address book, and everyone that opens it, if not protected by anti virus software, is infected and the process starts all over again.
Install anti virus software, keep up to date with virus definitions, and do not open suspect emails, or emails with attachments that you are not expecting - simple innit.

jon not sure that's true. when i first put my ad up months ago, i used a new email addy. within a week i was getting viral stuff into my inbox, along the lines of "hey i've seen your profile" with an attachment. well i'm not that daft! even worse, mail delivery failure notices that were obviously viral spamming my address.
i *know* i have never had a virus on my pc, so noway is a virus propagating through anything i've picked up, and the addy i sent out to anyone i chatted to was a different one, so it wasn't in anyones address book either. it's purely cos the addy was *out there*. i still get the odd one, but since hiding the email, i get very little these days. i never emailed off that address, and had no address book on it whatsoever. it was purely for the ad, and someone or something picked it up anyways.
it's something to be aware of.
neil x x x ;)
Ditto Neil
It may be that people are hand trawling for addresses here, but it's certainly possible that they're being gathered electronically, unfortunately session_id and only give limited protection sad
no sesson_id needed on profiles (ad profiles not forum ones) also bots can choice to houner the and ive never met a spam bot that has smile my machines are well protected anyways but i post this warning for those who are not so computer savvy

LOL 'zactly !
Quick plug for free antivirus software - if there's anyone not using something, you're mad and making life more difficult for the rest of us mad -

Adaware

and spybot

are less essential, but very worthwhile, addtions to anyone's armoury.
plus good old for a nice powerfull free firewall
