OK - my social night last night actually had more females than males      even though 17 guys were on the list and only 3 females or so!! We ended up with 5 females and 4 males biggrin
Some guys did send messages to say they couldnt make it - but most didnt. (Nothing new there then). Due to the large number of guys on the list, I did actually close the list to some guys, who may actually have turned up!
Anyway - a good time was had by all who did turn up (I think).
BUT did we make history here by having more females than males at a social????
Not sure about the *history* thing Bernie, But I'm sure all there had a good time, a very pleasant evening... so Stop Worrying!!!!
Thankyou for arranging it
a pleasure to attend

Well it was a lovely night even though I had to leave early (though did get a phone call from Bernie at just as I stepped in the house saying why hadnt I posted a thread about numbers attending lol)
What is interesting though is the amount of threads that get started in here by single guys and couples who say no one is up for a meet. A number of these have been from London people and I know that Bernie and Bassman try very hard to get socials together in London to make sure new people who want to meet other SH members, say hello and therefore get known are given this chance. She did get texts from some people who said they could not make it but also turned down quite a few as the list was getting too long.
I know I have had to back out of things in the past, we all have for one reason or another but I did feel for Bernie and Bassman last night as they are a great couple, really make you feel welcome and relaxed with no pressure at all.
So bottom line is, do people really want to meet socially just for a drink? Is the idea of meeting at an arranged social party or munch more exciting than just going for a drink?
Whatever Bernie, you were great to be with as usual and it was nice saying hello to some new faces as well xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
im just gutted i couldnt be there, as i had to work, a PM was sent to Bernie, but why is it people cant even have the courtesy to let organisers know?
it will one day come to the point where people wont organise anything, as people wont have the courtesy to let them know if anything changes
was sorry not to have been there, work plans changed mon evening, will hopefully be around next time
thank you Bernie for your efforts in trying to get me there, sadly not this time smile

It's quite mad isn't it  the ratio of males to females on here - and the guys get outnumbered when it comes to attending anything!! :lol2:
I remember, a fair while ago now, out of a 4 page thread full of "yes please I'll go", for a day out to Rios, the actual turn out was 3 women.................. and one guy!
Normally a good indicator of numbers, is to see how many guys are going, then half it, then you'll get roughly a third of that amount turn up rolleyes (talking about the no shows here, not the people who pull out beforehand and let the organiser know)
Am I slating guys here? No, and if it looks like that it's not my intention. Just stating my experience of social dos from SH............. and want to encourage the guys, who don't put their names down or don't attend cos of what the ratio looks like, to get themselves along!! Not so long ago, at the last London social, there was a guy there who spent most of the evening in shock, kept saying over and over that he couldn't believe how few guys had turned up, and that he worried for nothing about it lol

It certainly was a shame Bernie.
I did see the thread, but by the time I got sorted and rechecked the list was closed to single guys and from looking down the list of attendees I think you made the right choice.
Just a shame for the poor turn out. Hindsight etc etc I wish I had asked to be put on a reserve list. Never mind, maybe another time?

(Note to self: Get your name down for the next social organised by Bernie. Its what you have been waiting for lol )
did tis not happen before when i remember that dreamerhelen organised a london munch, 90 odd people names were down and only 30 bothered to turn up...
I am not saying that it is just a single guy problem.... i was the only one who bothered to turn up to a social in the north east on friday... and that a meet that was organised on saturday where only 3 out the 10 single guys who were on the list again bothered to go...
I am not having a go at people who at the last minute can't go... we all have emergencies, but at least people could have the common decency to let the organisors know so others can go instead....otherwise not only do people who didn't go lose out.. but the people who could have taken there place do as well....
I know there was a discussion a while back about possibly having a "no-shows" list so that mods could then let organisors knows of those who do this if they ask for an invite.. maybe it is time to possibly revive this...

maybe people just did not want to go :uhoh:

Maybe they shouldn't have asked for an invite then?

if people decide they don't want to go then fine, don't go... no one is forcing people to at gunpoint... but at least they could have the common decency to let the organisor know beforehand....

very true common decencywould of been good but i guess they all had better things to do
If I was Bernie and Bassman, I'd tell them to find something else to do on the date of the next social, if they couldn't be bothered to let anyone know. confused
