hi there any one got good advice on cameras we have a samsung digimax a7 7.0 mega pixels and we so do go thru loads and loads of batterys but we dont seem to git many pics to the batts ,is it the batterys we use ? failing that what is a cany camera to have with out going into great exspense mind we do like to go out and take pics when dark lol
Presume you're asking about a digital compact here, not an slr system?
Olympus mju series are very good cameras though expect to pay £200+ for that easily.
Look for one with its own rechargeable battery - they last a lot longer than AA/AAA batteries.
I bought a Samusung S85 and like yourself had the battery issue, absolute joke for £175.
So when I won a Canon Powershot A470 I thought I would give it a try, didn't cost me anything, and I absolutely love it.
They only cost around £45-£50 to buy, and although only 7.1 mp, it is the best camera I have ever used.
Unless you are buying an SLR, there's no real need to spend silly money these days.
Energizer's new lithium batteries are meant to be better than normal, you could give them a try before spending more on a camera than on batteries.
Right for digital cameras you can't just buy any old AA and pop it in. You need the more expensive high power ones they last far longer. Try camera shops they sell them smile. These are not to be mixed up with rechargables.

Hi,
We have a Sony Alpha 200 with an 18-70mm AF lens. Terrific camera for sexy shots inside and outside. Has rechargeable battery. Never run the battery out but I would guess 70 to 80 shots between charges.
Well recommended.

If you are looking for something between a simple digital and a full blown SLR, then the fuji S5800 is a great compromise. It does use 4AA batteries but I got a great set from and they last for ages.
Great camera, lots of features, choice of fully automatic or manual settings, great macro facility and zoom on it, but on the downside, can be a bit bulky if you are looking for something just to stick in your bag.
7dayshop are really good ... when I bought my Canon SLR and wanted a spare rechargeable battery, the official canon one cost something ridiculous like £50 ... got a non-branded twin pack from 7dayshop for just £12 and far as I can tell having used them for some months now, they're every bit as long lasting as the canon battery is.
Use lithium batteries.
If using rechargeable, go for the biggest rating they have (over 2800 is a good start)
Turn off any un-necessary software on the camera, eg beeps, photo reviews, live view, fancy special effects etc..
Don't chimp. (Don't review each photo on the camera after you have taken it)
Only have it on when you need to take a shot.
To be honest, live view (when the rear screen is displaying a picture of what the camera sees) is often the biggest drain on power.
These tips should increase the shoot per battery ratio of your current camera, meaning you don't need to buy a new one!
lol biggrin
i use the fuji range of cameras
there easy to use and easy to figure out they use rechargeable batteries that im still useing to this day from 2002
but as someone says high powered batteries are the best like duracel they last longer than rechargeable
you can also buy at camera shops rechargeable batteries in there that they offer as good batteries

Seconded.
I use 3rd party batteries in my Canon, which are used in a 3rd party battery grip, which itself was half the price of the official one, and I have no complaints at all, would recommend both to anyone.
I have a Canon A620, and man does that consume batteries! confused We planned to go out on Saturday, and anticipating I’d be pinging off a few hundred shots, I brought twelve AA's .
We jumped in the car, and the bloody car batteries were dead!
Discharging prematurely is something I’m getting used to lol .
You need to get someone else to take the photos ;)
Let them worry about the power drain LOL
lol

I see you like mountains.I was so chuffed to reach the summit of this one. Sadly I couldn't linger for as long as I'd liked  You know what Its like. Thin air, plummeting temperatures and exhaustion. Besides, the Bus left the resturant at 4pm to wind it's way back down to Santa Cruz
The only thing that worries me is this: If you are stood behind the camera, then I might be expected to get in front of it! Buying a camera became my best "get out" clause as regards not having to interact with Mrs Dirty in car parks lol
I use rechargable from 7day shop and am very impressed with them, and they even hold a charge when not in the camera. I easily get a few hours use out of them wink

Yes, just love being in the hills!!
As for your get out clause, don't forget, we always need someone to hold the reflector just out of shot, to through light into those hard to reach places
