So, the first conviction in the UK of "web rage" on a gentleman from Clacton who was beaten senseless by a moron from London after they rowed in an Internet Chatroom.
The number of times I see people in the SH chatroom giving out their names and email addy beggars belief.
Perhaps this case will make them realise just how sensible the SH rule is. Keep your private details private!!
Is there anything else we should/can do to protect ourselves from this sort of threat?

People should take responsibility for their personal information wherever possible. Details that may seem insignificant at the time may be a small piece that helps to build the bigger picture.
However people should also take responsibility for their own behaviour, you can go onto any website or chat room and find people who feel brave and treat people in a way that they wouldn't ever dream of in the real world because they hold some misguided view that they are untouchable or untraceable. If somebody really wants to find you they will.
People shouldnt believe everything they read on the net, just take it all with a pinch of salt.
people take it far too seriously when they form opinions of people they have never even met.
