Wedding outfits (or to hat or not to hat...)

My sister and I both have weddings to go to in the not too distant future. We've been chatting wedding outfits.
She still favours women wearing hats but I'm very much in the no-hat camp.
What do others think?
These days it's more a matter of personal choice I think. I like to see women wearing a hat to a wedding though I chose not to - I'm just not a hat person.....or a wedding person for that matter! :scared:
You wear whatever you feel comfortable with sweetie
kiss
You could try a fascinator? dunno
Or a fornicator as one woman in the shop called it! :giggle:
My sister got married with the full Scottish regalia, kilts etc. I was the only person there wearing a hat, yet everyone complimented me, saying how nice it was to see someone that still wears a hat to a wedding!
Shame it's gone in the loft now, a lot of money for only one day, but it was a lovely day.
Mrs Tin
We come down on the hat side. Its a special day for the couple so the least the guests can do is to dress up to help them remember it and make that day special.
If its a morning suit job, all the more important to.
And ladies, don't you feel like a million dollars with a hat on?
Smooth2
I love hats - but the hats I love are winter ones, designed for keeping my head warm, rather than fancy ones that take some getting used to and cost lots!
I may investigate the fascinator idea... love the 'fornicator' story DG. I usually just call 'em 'shrubbery' lol
You're not much older than me Nola, and I see hats being wore at weddings those who are over 40 lol I'd feel weird wearing a hat at a wedding. In fact, when I went to my best friend's wedding a few yrs ago, I didn't wear a hat, I didn't even give it a thought.
Like Sassy said, if you're not going to feel comfortable wearing one, I wouldn't get one.
I know what u mean that when someone mentions wedding, it's "do I need to get my hat?" cos it's the whole tradition thing.
Like Mrs Tin said, not everyone wears them kiss
That's just me tho biggrin
Wear a fez!
you'll be easy to spot in the crowd and it'll be a good converation starter

My sis is in her early forties
Yeah to be honest, I have never ever worn a hat to any wedding I've been to. I was just a bit surprised at my sister's reaction and yes, it was very much 'it's a wedding therefore one must wear a hat.'
I think I'd rather spend the money on shoes!

Unless there's a religious requirement that your head be covered - only wear one if it makes you feel FABULOUS!

We got married a few weeks back and my now Mother in law had one of those on.
It was sooooo funny watching her trying to keep it on. lol In the end she gave up and took it off.
i quite like to see hats but them i am 40!!! ffs creampie!
but i like the ones now you can get that are just on a head band and not a full hat but larger than a fascinator, i have also worn one of them to a wedding but it was a goth wedding lol!
I think its nice that people go that little bit more special for your special day.
but wear whatever you feel comfortable in, its all personal choice, and you will enjoy the day much more if you are comfortable

I had a gorgeous fascinator, hand made for my sisters wedding....scarlet feathers, pearls and crystals....the works.
Between the late afternoon and evening do's I nipped to the loo, , spent my penny, turned round and flushed.....at the same time i looked down cos i was having trouble fastening my trousers with my false nails on
....and in that split second, the fascinator had slipped ut of my hair, fell down the loo and was round the U bend and on its way to the North Sea before i could blink.....oooohhhh was the air blue :fuckinghell: :fuckinghell: :fuckinghell: in that cubicle.
Lovely things fascinators....but please make sure they are well secured :giggle:

me too
What on earth is a Fascinator?
The question of hattedness or non-hattedness is nowadays a personal choice - unless someone is part of the official photo-party I suppose.
I would think, if you wanted to wear a hat, it must go with the outfit and not leave your hair looking wierd if you take it off at the reception. Wearing a hat 'cos you have to' that doesn't quite go with the frock is waaaay worse than not wearing one at all. (hat I mean - not the frock)
However a nice tall crown is a good place to hide the miniature bottle of brandy to keep you going through the trauma of endless photos.
this kinda thingy

but doesnt have to be so elaborate
Sort of like a hat - without the actual hat then. biggrin
I love hats
The last wedding i went to i wore one, it was a big one with an upturned brim, looked fab with my dress, matching shoes and handbag.
Some days are special so why not go all out

thats them lol and can be as big or small as want
and i agree mrs bone totally but not everyone likes it
maybe we should have a hat party xx
As someone who rarely wears a hat of any kind, I truly believe that any opportunity to sport headgear should be seized with both hands.
