Joe and I are planning to go away for a long weekend at the beginning of August.
The problem is, we cant decide where to go confused
Weve been on many package holidays but we would like to go to a European city for the weekend. Maybe Paris, Brussels etc.
We would also like to keep the cost down as much as we can.
Wheres the best places youve been to?
What did you do/see while you where there?
What do you think about Eurostar V Flying?
Thanks in advance

Oooooo there are lots of choices! If you go to Paris on the Eurostar you can be there in just two and a half hours.
Depends what you are looking for really: Culture? Beach? Hideaway?. Also it depends on how hot you can bare the weather. lol
:bounce:
Paris is a lovely place to visit and if you do go there, you MUST see the Sacre Cueur(sp?) Cathedral. The view of the city from there is spectacular biggrin
Failing that, Cardiff's fab this time of year too.
Prauge (sp?)
Were looking for a more cultural place to go, see the sights.

Although I hear that Cardiff does have some really lovely sites wink

So many questions................sorry lol

Well I can thoroughly reccommend Geneva. It's lovely, has lots of museums and art galleries. And lake Geveva is beautiful.

Never been but have friends who have been and they said its a beautifull place and not too expensive there either.
Paris, Rome and Venice are all fabulous cities for culture but pricey compared to some destinations such as the Eastern European countries like Budapest and Prague. Often though the cheaper destinations attract the hens/stags, great for them, but not so much for you if you want a quiet romantic dinner (not me being snobby, as advised to us by a travel connoisseur).

I went about 8 yrs ago and it is beautiful and pretty cheap, but I've been told that there are a lot of hen and stag do's going there now which might cause a problem if you're looking for a quiet weekend away. One of my favourite European Cities to go to is Barcelona, I fell in love with it the first time I went and have been 4 or 5 times since and it never seems to lose its charm. You can normally find cheap flights there pretty easily although be carful when you're getting cheap flights that they do actually go to the main airport not one a coach journey away.....often the budget airline price isn't much less than if you shop around the other airlines and they go to the main airport.
Hope you find somewhere nice to go and have fun biggrin
I'd just like to endorse Poshkates' recommendation for Barcelona. Excellent place
Bruge if for the real ale brigade .. they have over 80 different types of beer brewed in and around the city. Most of the beer is 6% proof so good and strong. There is a lovely city walk and a canal trip. Loads of museums and places of interest.

Just realised you guys live in London how daft do i now feel!!!!!!!
********************************************************
You know this might sound daft but what about our very own capital London, it has some of the finest art museums and display museums in the world, some of the greatest architectural marvels to be found anywhere, and there are always the West End shows??
People often overlook London but iys fantastic, you can do all sorts. I went and did the Jack the Ripper Trail with a story telling guide on an evening which i would thoroughly recommend, and also the Tower of London, London Dungeons. As far as nights out go the restaurants are quality an have something for every budget and the pubs and clubs in the more cosmopolitan area are excellent (though admittedly a little pricey).
For the swinging visitors, you could always visit soho with loads of sex shops live shows and allsorts of weird and wonderful stuff going on. God i sound like i work for the tourist board lol
Just a suggestion, but wherever u go have a fab time!!
Apparently Stoke is the "in place" to go at the moment!
well for the next 28 days anyway!
Vienna is a lovely city! fairly cheap to get to and stay in - but the food and nights out are about the same as here!
beautiful churches and cathedrals, amazing stately homes and palaces, opera, spanish riding school, pony and trap rides through the city, and the loveliest pastries i have ever eaten!
lovely city!
Mr v has just returned from a lads weekend in budapest (says it all rolleyes ), however he is quite keen to return and see the real city that lurks underneath the stag/hen night facade!
either way have a great time!
biggrin

I love Barcelona- definately a place to go if you want culture, but it has a bit of everything- amazing shops, beach and port, olympic village, mountains, and obviously all the gaudi architecture etc!
It's a must, and you can do something for any budget
(God I sound like a travel agent!)
plus there are plenty of good swingers clubs or so i'm told! wink
Failing that, Prague- lot's of walking to be done lots of cheap cheap beer and hotels etc, loads of culture! (We got dinner in the castle one night- was amaaaaaazing!)
I would go for one of those two!
Echo Barcelona (how did I miss that off my original list rolleyes ), Gaudi's architecture is simply amazing and the food (real tapas) is divine. It's also quite small to walk around in a weekend.

Another Barcelona-lover here. Excellent city, beautiful and relaxed, just right for a break.

I didnt see your original post but as a guess id say you were suggesting we go to London  :giggle:
I suppose there are many sights in London that we havent got around to seeing as with probably the rest of the country. Its just that we have the travelling bug at the moment so we would like to see some different countries/cultures.
Some great suggestions have been made. Keep em coming
