Tom and I know where we are going for our holiday this year and it'll be to places we already know well. However, musing last night, there are places I have never seen but that sound so romantic. What about...?
Samarkand? I don't really know where it is (Russia, I think) but it makes me think of samovars, mint tea and spices. Russian Dancers
Katmandoo? Green-eyed yellow idols (Kipling?). Mountain Men.
Timbuctoo? Blue men, camel caravans carrying pillars of salt (Lot's wife) and ancient libraries.
Baghdad? Well, romantic until the last few years - maybe not now. But romance from childhood with Scheherazade and Arabian Nights and Forty Thieves and so on.
Kalamazoo. Glen Miller?
But then I mused on places not quite so romantic. A few years ago we swapped addresses with a very nice couple. When the the man gave me the name of his town I said "Uh?" and he said "I'm not saying it again, I'll spell it," and he did. T W A T T. Last night I looked it up in my road atlas and there are two places in Britain spelled like that.
But so many romantic sounding places I have never been to. Yet.

Marrakesh, coz of the song.
Yes Marakesh. Can't think of the song. But "Square of the Dead", snake charmers and the Atlas Mountains holding up the sky.

MARRAKESH EXPRESS (2:36)
by Graham Nash, Siquomb
Whoopa, hey mesa, hooba huffa, hey meshy goosh goosh.
Looking at the world through the sunset in your eyes,
Traveling the train through clear Moroccan skies
Ducks, and pigs, and chickens call,
animal carpet wall to wall
American ladies five-foot tall in blue.
Sweeping cobwebs from the edges of my mind,
Had to get away to see what we could find.
Hope the days that lie ahead
bring us back to where they've led
listen not to what's been said to you.
Wouldn't you know we're riding on the Marrakesh Express.
Wouldn't you know we're riding on the Marrakesh Express,
they're taking me to Marrakesh.
All aboard the train.
All aboard the train.
Is it significant that there are two twatts in Orkney and Shetland?
Are they breeding up there or what?
Will they be working their way down to us?

whore nantwich that sounds good.
Scapa Flow sounds good Marmalaid! Never been off the mainland, but want to go to Shetland & Orkney....
If I could swim I'd also fancy diving on the wrecks of the German WW1 fleet scuttled in Scapa Flow......
Rick.
Excellent Marmalaid! Have fun, I hope it's a rewarding experience!
Damn, I wish I could swim. I do a good impression of a submarine though!
