What charges up a forum?

I believe certain people charge up a forum and draw in the crowds, be it good or bad you only have to look at the number of posts in certain type threads to see in general people like a counter debate.
To be able to have a counter debate you have to have people disagreeing as when you disagree with someone you have a comment to make.
Instead of I agree comments which in truth can become pretty boring.
I like people that stand up and say things that have strength to stand out above the rest, It doesn’t not mean I agree with what they say, but at least they have the balls to say it.
Life gets pretty dull in here when it plods along all fluffy it’s nice sometimes to think you find people in general think when they disagree.
It takes allsorts to keep this place alive.

I like fluff!
I like people who agree with me, it confirms my judgement.
I like people who disagree. Sometimes they are right.
A lively debate good for everyone.

A good debate is one thing, we all like one of those. Saying something that could be bordering on abusive just to spark a reaction is something else.

couldnt have said it better and totally correct

Lively is good for me... the type of thing that draws you away from Crossroads and The Good Life on TV.. or was that in the 1970's? :P
OK, the type of thing that gets me to put down my Kylie autobiography then and sit up and read, that gets the adrenalin flowing, the pulse beating, my cock and bumhole twitching (and that's just flower's pink hat!)
I'm a dreaful rubber-necker too - I love to watch and see people rise to the bait and get all on their 'high horse' about things. To see them posting the same old crap they did the last time somebody made the same kind of post and then disappearing for months on end until the next time they are wheeled out.. it's just a Forum and if I wanted to talk about cake recipes (and I have done) I'd sit and chat with me nanna! I come here as we can debate things that we couldn't elsewhere, mostly in an adult way... and I think that's great! :P

Abso-bloody-lutely
Debate is brilliant and a good learning tool and quite some fun just as long as all in the debate know the rules and that debate is to sort things out and come to conclusions and that the personal judgemental attitude has no place in debate and taking things personally is not part of debate and opinion is just that it is not fact and everyone has opinions and we can all be wrong sometimes

It is all the C19H28O2 thats ranging through the forums today. Bloke is in his element wink
I think it is great to see a quickly moving, lively Cafe after a hiatus for a few months - the summer slow down perhaps?
I think it's good that people are posting - new and old - and I have been enjoying reading, joining in etc the past few days more so than I possibly have in a while.
It's not all about controversy - it's just fun when there's a lot going on.

I wondered who it was I saw stalking me the other day. With the limp and unconvincing moustache... I'd just got my hand on a cracking pair of Melon's in Tesco too when you caught my eye.
You really wouldn't want to watch Nola, it'd be like watching a Sumo match without the nappies. Besides, I haven't had my badge through yet from the society to say I can be the token gay in the area and the pink tutu I ordered from ebay has been delayed in the post. The day-glo orange leggings have arrived however and they go well with my eyes.

Cool!
Can you do me some curtains to match and tell me how to make ladies bras open?
I feel like one of those hopeless straight men you see on the television programme "Queer guys for the shit straight bloke" or something.

That programme always makes me laugh my ass off... they don't want to dress them up, they want to shag them.. you can see it in their eyes.. 4 puffs in a straight man's bedroom looking through his undies.. most gay men I know would pay to do that job! wink

Now if I'd have said that, I'd have been called homophobic.

This is busy?
Hmm I dunno not from when I was last here. Take a look at when I posted post number 999. I did 2 maybe 3 stints at posting here on a daily basis and I had to visit the board twice each night and I would have normally around one and a half pages of new posts to read each time. I found it basically impossible to have enough time. Now I was trying to read every post in every topic each time but thats just how I do forums. I was going to make a post recently about how quiet this place is and ask why that might be? Ive not been reading every topic and every post but I think I could do with no problems at the current posting rate that I see.
My two guesses would be
1: Gradual decline of the old free members (like me)
2: 4-5 years ago Swinging was much more in the press/tv and is not so much now?
Whatever the case its true to say that Post count wise this cafe forum is a mere shadow of its former self. Taking a look the other day it said the most people online ever was 336 on Thu Jun 23, 2005 9:07 pm, its a long time ago. This isnt to say the content is not as good just the number of users is down drastically.
Back on the point of debates. I always found when I was here previously that any kind of debates were a bit pointless. I took the view that when anyone well known or popular in the forum posted a post on a debate that post just got quoted and ass licked like it like it was an ice cream. It seemed to me most members were to afraid to post anything slightly controversial. I always thought this was because they were worried about frightening off potential playmates. I may be wrong but dont think that I am. I know that when I was first here I had a reputation as being a bit of a nasty poster even to the point where I got 3 comments made at me at our first munch. Thankfully Ive matured a bit with older age cool
Edit: Just read in another thread there's now more forums. Never noticed, wonder how many people do!
It's cyclical, surely - like many things?
The Forums are the least-used part of the site. I happen to like them but clearly for the vast majority of the members they are not what they signed up to use.
As with all web forums though, you get out what you put in - if people want to change the tone or content of the forums, then all they have to do surely is post more or differently?
