What is a liberal lefty?

I am often getting called a liberal lefty in here and really am confused as to why this is, I am open in my opinions but to categorise me I am often left with a feeling as to why?
My thoughts and opinions are wild diverse I can take what I think to be political stance from both ends of the political septum. I have feeling and thoughts of others plus believe those that want to better their lives should be able to do so to.
What makes me angry are people that think just of themselves and no thought of others.
I believe we are all human beings and I get on with all walks of society, I don’t think a doctor or a dustman is above or below me, it is about a mentality of people that I judge as to if I would get on well with them or not, not where they stand in the (so called) class in life.
I have friends from all classes class to me has no place in my life.
Can you see why I am confused?
What are your thoughts?

I suppose that "liberal lefty" is indeed a pejorative term courtesy of some with withered amygdalas (look it up :twisted: ).
Being liberal, in my view, is a good thing (tm). Being a lefty is ethereal and is just an abstract that means nothing really.
When put together it invariably points to people who are so liberal that common-sense has left their brains. They have taken liberalism and taken it to the nth degree.
As a purely fictional example: The "liberal lefty" will announce that as is a bad thing (tm) and we cannot take chances with our children. As such the law is to be changed so that fathers can no longer bath their children in case they have a quick diddle under the suds.

I totally agree with you!
I have always seen myself as liberal, it was the lefty bit that just totally confused me as it has no place in my life.
The pc of this country has gone mad, just because i care for others doesnt mean I am of the pc brigade.
So many mistake the two in my opiion.

Thanks for your concern, I never take things to heart.
I just think, ask and find answers. In doing so makes others think.
I always speak my mind but not in a rude way, but unlike a lot here I will stand up and be counted I am not afraid of what others think of me.
I just like to make them think of what they say.
Life is to short, and I dont take it all so serious honest.
Be free to say what you think, be happy and have fun.
Thats my motto

It seems to be a label put on those of us who have 60s type ideals and progressive that I don't mean the daft ideas of the absurd 'pc brigade' but real ideals about the kind of fair, creative, caring society we could achieve in this country, in the world course it'll be said it can never be done but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing to believe in the world were the way I wished it was you'd never have to lock your door, never feel unsafe in your own home or on any street in any village, town or city, everyone could live their own life freely so long as they did no harm to others and there'd be no more wars and free ice cream on the NHS!

Liberal ideology tends to be as you probably already know, along the lines of freedom thinking. It supports the rights of the person to have freedom of thoughts and speech.
Being 'lefty' tends to mean whilst you have those liberal thoughts you can often sway towards NewLabour thinking.
I think so much of our thoughts no matter who we support can often cross over into different areas. Full on Libertanians oppose things like the welfare state, but Governments such as Labour promote the family and the welfare state.

being a liberal lefty is not necessarily political,it can be in a family unit,place of work etc
