What use are emoticons?
The ones I use might mean different things to me than to you.
So here is a few I use and the reasons why I use them.
rolleyes I use this one with a cheeky smile on my face a bit like a tut and eyes raise to the ceiling, either out of embarassment after being caught out doing something silly.
redface I use when I blush this could be out of feeling naughty or made a complete fool of myself.
 this could be when someone says something that take me by suprise and I find so funny.
:P this I would use in a bit of banter when I feel tit for tat..when something has been said in gest and I feel I have countered back.
 This I use when I feel in a mischevious and naughty mood.
:rascal: This is when I feel flirty
I have given I few of my secrets away
I would never use emoticons in a bad meaning way, if I have something to say I will say it.
What emoticons do you use and why?
What a good post Minx!
Here's my list...
biggrin - Is for when I've remembered to Brush my teeth.
mad - Is for when I'm constipated
rolleyes - Is for when Superman has been and just left
redface - Is for when I forget my blood pressure tablets
sillyhwoar: - Is usually when I am viewing profiles
passionkiss - Is for when I am entering the national baldy head rubbing contest
 - Is when I am trying to contact a member secretly in semaphore.
:wanker: - Is for when I can get the hose in the Garden to only work sporadically.
whip - Is when I am lion taming
 - Is when I am hitchiking
:gagged: - Is what Mrs Res would do to me if she could
:uhoh: - Is watching the Tennis on the TV
worship - Is what I have to do when Mrs Res comes home
:fuckinghell: - Is when I need something translating into hieroglyphics.
My scacastic style of sense of humour, has got me into trouble on occassions!
Just because I know what I mean, I expect everyone else to as well.
Not always the case!
So for me, using the smiley faces and laughter emotions hopefully can convey to all how I am feeling as I type a post.
Resonance man......one good reply above me there!
Lucys post.

You are a complete barm pot man!! no wonder you fit right in here! lol
There was an autistic member on here a while ago who liked people to use emticons. She said that it was easier for her to understand exactly what was meant as she didn't pick up on jokes, irony etc
That's a good point Keeno...
"You complete tit!"
is different from
"You complete tit!" lol
and
"You complete tit!" mad
I must admit I sometimes find it hard to gauge whether people are being sensible, silly or serious. Emoticons help in that respect.

I love the emotes. In fact, many of my posts have been just a couple of emotes. It's a kind of shorthand to me. I get really frustrated when I type a work email because I feel gagged without emotes.
