What will you be serving up for christmas dinner this year.....traditional turkey and all the trimmings? Will you go for different meats, a vegetarian option, something wildly different, or are you not bothering this year and will go for egg and chips?? Are you having loads of courses, or just the main meal, what are you dishing up for starters and or dessert? And whats for drinkies with it all, water, wine, bubbly or a good old british cuppa? Will you sit at at table or have it on your knee in front of the queens speech? Do you go the whole hog and decorate the table, and dress up in your finery or just stay in your casuals or PJ's and chill? Tell me all about it, cos I love hearing peoples different experiences :D :D
When I was a kid, christmas morning started with egg and bacon butties quickly followed by something from our selection boxes. Lunch was turkey and another meat, pork bleugh! or beef. Christmas pud followed. My dad ALWAYS fell asleep after that then Mum would start and make tea around 5pm which was cold meats, salad, christmas cake and yule logs. Now as an adult we'll start with a bacon buttie but then I'm lucky if I can manage my christmas dinner which will consist of turkey only and filo pastry parcels filled with ice cream and christmas pudding (made my moi following my fav chef James Martin )- and that's it, nothing much more after that. Where did our appetites go? even my daugher cannot eat like we did as kids. I always make a lovely 'christmas' dining table and will dress smartly but not OTT, no slobbing around in PJ's ... that's for boxing day!
Breakfast will be left over cake and things from Christmas Eve, possibly a bacon sarnie  I think my Mum is cooking this year so it will be turkey and beef with all the traditional trimmings Followed by Christmas pudding which my Mum made with the kids and my Dads brandy sauce. I'm hungry now :P

I'll refrain from eating breakfast till we get to yours then ;-) As for our dinner I suspect it will be the usual over the top offerings of huge amounts of this that and the other when a decent roast will more than suffice.
Full english brekkie then off to Mum's with the troops and armed with pressies. We all pull our crackers, don our stupid paper hats which never fit, tell even stupider jokes then do the family toast 'To absent friends' Lunch will be home made soup followed by roast turkey, roast pork, about 25 veg ( knowing my Mum ) with fab gravy made by yours truly :smug: Mum's xmas pud with lashings of brandy sauce for dessert then coffee and cheese and fruit. **note to self** wear trousers with expanding waist this year

I know some of you have heard it before but..... A few years ago, on xmas eve, our oven died. Totally. It died minutes after the shops closed. I had been about to roast some pork, so I could cook the huge chicken (not turkey lovers) the next day. "Oh, bollocks" I do believe was the phrase I uttered. But then I got on with it. I got the apple schnapps from the cupboard, and marinaded the pork in it overnight. Next day, the veg was cooked on the hob- and the pork was microwaved. Result? I didn't spend the day in the kitchen, and got to enjoy time with the family. Come lunchtime, no one expected perfection- so thats pretty much what it was, perfect. That year, we realised that stuffing-yerself-silly- wasn't necessarily the recipe for a good time. All that excessive food & drink that goes to waste is just that- waste. On boxing day, we decided that we'd do something different the next year. By mid afternoon- surprised at how relatively cheaply it could be done- we'd made contact with the owners of a farmhouse in the French Alps which had been converted into apartments. They're normally booked up for xmas a couple of years in advance- but did some ringing round and confirmed that we could book for next year. That was that, the next year- xmas was white, stress free, and wonderful! We went out again 2 years later to try skiing......and are off again in 8 days time :bounce: Erm. What was the question?? Oh yeah, dinner will be whatever I can pick up in the little French Supermarche!
