I've just been reading another site and came across a post by another user about government plans to sell off some of our national forests to 'private companies' mad
This will raise an estimated £100 million towards the current deficit, or about per person in the country. in exchange for loosing the pleasure of walking or cycling in the most stunning surroundings we have- not to mention the impact on the wildlife that lives there. with the constant bleating about fighting climate change and the taxes imposed under this banner, its bloody insulting that OUR land could be sold for such a pitiful fee. Look what happened when they sold off OUR utility companies, which was apparently for our future benefit rolleyes
Please read the post below and take some action, even if its just to sign the petition and register your opposition to the destruction of our country! If you've ever made the effort to vote for strictlybigbrothergetmeoutofhere or something, then you have no excuse to not vote against something far more important to us
The government is planning a massive sell off of our national forests. They could be auctioned and fenced off, run down, logged or turned into golf courses and holiday villages.
We can't let that happen. We need to stop these plans. National treasures like the The Forest of Dean, Sherwood Forest and The New Forest could be sold off. Once they are gone, they will be lost forever.
A huge petition will force the government to rethink its plans. If we can prove how strongly the public are against this, they will have to back down. Please sign the petition now.
(38Degrees - Save Our Forests campaign)
You've probably heard about this campaign but, since the government has decided to fast track it through parliament and vote on it next Wednesday, a certain degree of urgency has been added to the issue. Let's not fool ourselves - the reason it's being forced through at this pace is because they know it's wrong and that opposition to their plans will continue to grow as time passes. So, please sign the petition and pass the word as far and wide as you can.
Save Our Forests: Sign The Petition
Also... if you have already signed the 38 Degrees petition, please also email or write to your MP - it is vital we let every one of them understand how much we oppose this odious sell off.

Tomorrow (Sunday, 30th Jan) there is a protest rally at Grizedale Forest in Cumbria at 1pm - the rally will take place on the meadow next to the main car park.
If you can make it, please come along. Here are some more details:

The rally will take place on the meadow next to the main car park at Grizedale Forest. Here's a map - The meadow and car park is about 50 yards to the southeast of the red marker (A) on the following Google map:

Incidentally, if you feel any reluctance to oppose the sell off on the grounds that you have been told that it is to raise vital funds to tackle the deficit, don't believe a word of it... It is utter bullshit!
This sale will end up costing us all an absolute fortune both now and for many years to come. Here are some of the reasons why:

Done - done - and done
if they sell off this land the right to roam (and dog & just enjoy ourselves in the open air) will be diminshed.

That sounds like a reasonable and measured response rather than the childish jibes and gloating that normally pass for comment in parliament ....

Quoted, for humour.
