When was the last time you wrote a letter or received one.
Seems these days all I get through my letter box is junk mail and bills .....
I used to write to my best mate everyweek and always looked forward to the post she moved away for a while and we kept in touch with lovely to open her letters and find out what she'd been up to swap silly stoires and jokes... I really miss that she moved back close and we stopped writing well she only lives 20 mins away now. biggrin
But was thinking as I collected my post today how much I missed her letters, so I'm going to sit down tonight and write to her.
So when was your last time or do you still use the old fashioned snail mail
I used to write lots of letters to my friends Cherry and loved getting letters in the post. Now days its emails and to be honest I think even that has given way to texts  .
I love words and text and email is so instant. You don't have to think about what you write in the same way you do when you write a letter.
When I was younger all my letters had drawings in them as well lol used to describe things in much more detail!
You have got me thinking Cherry. I have a couple of letters to write to people from christmas. Maybe I wont email them ..... just sit and write wink
Dont we have 'penpals' anymore??
I used to have one in LA in me school days but lost touch long long long time ago !!!! wander whats she's doin now...... rolleyes

Yep email has a lot to answer for. I have to hold my hands up and say I email long distance pals now rather than write to them. My computer was down over Xmas so I actually wrote a few letter, it absolutely knack'd my hands!!! we're letter lazy I think smile
As for penpals, my daughter has a few but again she emails them or talks over MSN.
I have 3 or 4 people who i still write letters to but maybe this is becasue they dont have the internet rolleyes
I used to be an avid letter writer. I wrote my friend when she moved away, several penpals in the Uk and abroad and some guy in prison
The last thing I wrote was just a short note to accompany something I sent.
We've got lazy haven't we?
I'm quite an old-fashioned gal at heart so I always write thank you letters or cards at Christmas, for birthdays and any other occasion that calls for it. So, my last letter writing spree was on/around the 27th December!
Since then, I have sent various cards for birthdays and also get well wishes. The majority of my friends live a way from me, so invariably any card to them also includes a letter.
Far more pleasurable and personal than an email I feel!

The last time i get a letter .it was of the back telling me i owed them money, well to be honest with you that is the only type of letter i get..
as for an old fashioned letter where someone is writing to me to tell me how life is with them..havent had one of them for years,oh well such is life might get one one day ..
Well my ex is in the army and while he was away on tour I used to send him a "bluey" every couple of days. And although these days you can send eblueys - which are much faster - I really enjoyed writing. It was far more personal and daft as it sounds it was nice knowing that the bluey was going from my hands to his. biggrin
OOOh Corrie love the sound of your letters, with drawings in them, yes I use email far to much have to say though and everyone who knows me will know this it takes me forever to send a text redface so I dont usually bother lol.
Tiger what a lovely thought passing from one hand to anothers hadn't thought of it like that.
Yes I think I've got lazy and I'm more determined now to go write that letter. :notes:
Thanks for all your replies
p.s. I'll be looking out for the postman more now lol :smile2:

Only letters I write now seem to be either to the taxman telling him that there are not two people living at my house with the same name, national insurance number and date of birth and so I don't want to pay double tax mad
Either that, or letters of complaint / praise to companies. I despice poor customer service, but I will also ensure people who go that extra mile gain a mention.
All friends now seem to either text or email, but there are still a couple of mates that will come over regularly and over a pint, we put the world to rights.
last time i wrote a letter it was to send a visiting order out to my ex wife redface biggrin
No idea.
Type, email, text, MSM (when I remember to turn it on)
Yesterday- prompted by this thread. It was one I'd been meaning to write for weeks.
I wrote a letter about three months ago to an ex,who's not on the net and I'd forgotten her number, asking if she fancied getting together for some fun.
It worked!

I wrote a letter to my son's school a couple of months ago. Other than that, I email or text. Pointless signing in to MSN, nobody talks.
I wrote a letter to Mr M and then packed it in his wash bag when he went on a business trip to Singapore recently.
I didnt tell him it was there and he said it was so lovely to find it when he got to the hotel after hours of travelling and feeling like crap.
He still has it..........and they say romance is dead.........not in my house!! biggrin
When Mr W went to Greece on his own the year before last, I put a letter in his case for every day he was gone. He wrote a diary, day by day, for me while he was there.
I know.....bucket!
The last time I wrote a letter, they still used stone tablets :!:
Plim lol
I tend to write letters quite often. Mainly to the kids schools or clubs, girls brigade type things. And like Ian i do tend to acknowledge good practice from companies and/or their representatives as much as i I write telling them if their service is otherwise.
Mrs Lost however has a few good friends who she writes to frequently by hand and receives handwritten letters back though these are friends from way way back bolt
I see flowers point though really we shouldn't worry about the passing of the 'handwritten' letter we should be glad that written communication is alive and kicking and thriving within the new technologies.
It seems the most I do is fill in the spaces on from letters, but that's at work.
Apart from work, the last time I did more than add a few lines to a greetings card was...so long ago I no longer remember. It is e-mail or the phone now.
This thread has just reminded me that I need to thankyou letters to my relatives that sent me Xmas presents.
I used to have LOADS of penpals all over the UK and as far afield as France and Nevis. I had become penpals with a girl in Essex (who I met from a chatroom) and we used to have competitions as to who could write the longest letter. No kidding, our letters to one another were A4 sized 30+ pages  , pages not sides! We used to write it over the course of maybe a week and tell each other absolutely everything.
I don't write to these penpals anymore since MSN was invented, mind you, we hardly ever go on MSN now anyway.

I used to be a regular letter writer for many many years.... no idea why I stopped, hate writing emails or letters now!
In fact, im terrible at keeping in touch with anyone these days....... such is life!
