Kit and I were chatting last Sunday about sexuality in general and bi-sexuality in particular. - Kit is bi-sexual but has only recently had the chance to find out how much she enjoys sex with another woman, so that was what started it.
At one point Kit said to me "5 years ago, before we got in to swinging, I would not have been surprised if you had told me you were gay. But now, if you told me you were gay or bi-sexual - I would be surprised"
Naturally, I asked for elaboration and she said:
"You have some very effeminate mannerisms, your body language and the way you talk."
Now, since arriving on swinging heaven, and having my first opportunity to talk openly with gay and bi-sexual people, I have been able to explore my sexuality, including any urge to swing with people of the same sex. I have concluded that it not something that turns me on, although I am dreading the day when Blue dares me to give a bloke a blow job! :shock:
Kit insists that the way I behave could easily lead many people to think I am gay or bi-sexual (and many probably have in the past :shock: )
So we had to come up with a buzz word for this, so we came up with 'Socially Gay' -
So, my attempt at a serious and thought provoking debate is:
Do women talk bollocks all the time?

Schizophrenics are far more likely to harm themselves than others, despite the media fuelled coverage suggesting otherwise. However, many schizophrenia suffers will become a danger when drug abuse comes into the equation, which is a fairly common occurance. Interesting theory, Kat. Wouldn't a good litmus test be whether you would use "socially homosexual" instead of "socially gay"? If not, does this mean that the word "gay" has taken on connotations above and beyond "homosexual"? (I think I know who the next post is going to be from... if she isn't out at the pub

well heres my two cents:
on the socially gay scene... well I think its more about societies need to put things into boxes, eg. a remotely 'feminine' male is obviously gay or some derivitive - when gender and sexuality are two linked but seperate things, this is a need by 'society' (whoever they ae??) to make the world a bit easier to understand by associating two of these 'boxes'. If you understand what Im talking aobut - I will be amazed!!!
Mav has had continuous quesitons over his sexuality ever since I have known him (which is since he was 14) because of the way he sits, because he talks to girls as friends, because he actually cares if your upset etc etc etc. He is now, understandably, a little paranoid about it.. and although he is completely gay friendly (I can vouch for this one myself - on many different levels) - he is now accused by many who dont know him as being homophobic, because he makes it absolutely clear that he isnt gay in any way.. in a respectful and nice way. Including some people on this very chat room who connnected the term 'very straight' with homophobia... an interesting lead into some extra debate - which can be carried on by venus or some other lovely person, but I shall leave otherwise I will be here all night......
On schizophrenia (Ive spelt that wrong I know) - it is a thoryn issue. I have occasionally worked in an advocacy role with people suffering 'split personality' down to paranoid dillusions. It is a very distressing illness for the ones involved and their friends and families. At which point does personal right to choose become neglect and endangerment of others. Some very thorny human rights issues on both sides of the arguement.. and I have no idea which side I stand on.
Anway, obviously at this point I shall bow out as I am certain the conversation has moved on from this point and is now full of joky inuendos concerning various SH regulars! ;)

I think harming others before myself seems perfectly sane to me ! Its a natural defence . But it is the "perception" that others are going to harm you when they are clearly not that is the mental health issue. In the days of the asulums ( think about that word ) The big wall round depending on your mind could keep people in or keep people out ! a prison or a castle. Well now we have "care (not) in the community" woooo I think I would defend myself if I " thought" people were goimg to harm me ! and I had no defensive place I could go to.
