I've been doing some more thinking on this one, and I would find it incredibly difficult to go back to a time when women were meant to "know their place". But it's been so recently in real terms that this has started to change.
Therefore, I think i'll settle for finding me an era when women were treated purely as sex objects :rascal: and sod the rest!
Eighteen hundreds hanging out with Dickens would have been my choice
Another vote for the sixties here. Can't decide at which end of the decade though, world cup win, free love, festivals, sex drugs and rock n roll in the back half or nearer the beginning with the mods and rockers and when the Beatles, Stones and The Who broke onto the music scene.
I was a teenager in the late seventies to mid 80's and them times were v good, hearing and seeing The Smiths for the first time sticks in my mind. Also how cool I felt when I had my first pair of non flared jeans!
I have a couple of time periods I would like to go back to...
The 40's as I would love to have been a fighter pilot flying a Spitfire or a Hurricaine
The late 70's through to the mid to late 80's as I would love to have been old enough to fully appreciate the awsome spectacle of the old GpB rally cars hurtling through the forests and along narrow twisting mountain roads
Sorry to go all grown up in this fun thread but......
Has anyone considered the risks of not living in the present? Take for instance penicillin.
Penicillin was introduced in the 1940's and improved the surgical survival rate by 10-15%. However its main use was on soldiers who had caught certain diseases in the recreation time time in Naples.
If you chose to go back before 1940 for say, Roman Orgies, you risk more than a rash and an embarrassing visit to the doctors.
