Now you've got ME scared of the dentist :scared:
We really should have teeth like horses then we wouldn't have this problem!
Sorry to hear you were in so much pain Steve. An abscess is very painful indeed and something I have personal experience of too.
I had one at the front of my top gum and was in so much pain for 10 days that I had thoughts of ending my life as I didn't know what to do. I had to wait 3 days before I could go to the dentist as it flared up friday night. Thankfully I don't mind going to the dentist but was given antibiotics that didn't help at all. What I couldn't understand is why didn't he take my tooth out then. I understand now that they needed to do an x-ray first. This was hard as I gag when having something in my mouth, well somethings anyway innocent
On the 10th day I ended up going to an emergancy dentist. As I thought I was going to be relieved I cried when dropped off as I thought it was going to end. I ended up been given more painkillers but these were different. That night it popped. I wont go into how long I was at the sink!
I was completely over the moon that the pain had gone. This meant that I could finally have the affected tooth out. It's still missing to this day, you may notice in my photo or when I am on webcam. It will cost me £600ish for a replacement as I need to be put to sleep due to not being able to have something big in my mouth lol
Awwwww bless..
Well i used to be a dental nurse / receptionist years ago.. so not that fussed about going!!!
lol

The Dentist...........
I am sitting here in absolute agony having just woken my long suffering wife and explained I have to go to the dental hospital today as I can no longer stand the pain....
I have literaly been banging my head against solid objects in an effort to draw my attention away from the pain....
I just dont go to the dentist because I am that scared
Just wondered if I was the only one......

see now this is the kind of attitude i just do not get, people will sit for day even weeks in pain and not go get it sorted, ok so going to the dentist isn't the nicest of things but whats the worse they can do, seriously!!! stick a few needles in your gums ok its a bit painful bit only for a few seconds then its gone, but sitting at home the pain last for weeks
you go figure confused

Well for Tony its a severe Phobia, I have been with him and he shook from head to foot from start to finish, the sweat rolled of him, and with the monitor on his finger his heart rate went right up and his blood pressure went up to, It took them 45 minutes just to get 3 needles in is gum and about another 1/2 hour to pull 2 teeth out, I felt so sad that i couldn't do something to make him feel better sad I just wanted to cuddle him.
I have quite a bad phobia of spiders buts its not got a patch on how bad Tony is with dentist's
I suppose its kind of like thinking of your worst phobia then jumping in a tank full of it :?
Shaz x
Pretty much describes how I feel about the dentist as well Shaz... sad

i do totally understand that but to me its a pain thing, i can't see the point in putting up with the pain when someone can help you!
Makes you wonder why people are scared of the dentist tho, do you think they had a bad experiance as a child or something? i mean you don't just wake up one day and think 'hey i don't like the dentist no more' do you?
eeeek!  Dentists! *runs and hides*
My dentist said that I now only have to go once a year, but even then it's scary stuff (gets the ol' heart beating)
...and the bill at the end doesn't do much good for me either! lol
I know if you're really worried about something the demon gets worse and worse, but in reality the dentist is only mildly inconvenient. The hurt is not as bad as a the fear or the pain of toothache.
As I get older I'm trying to accept that if I am to survive into old age with dignity and a lifestyle I care for, then I'm going to face a whole lot more pulling, prodding, poking, of an invasive and discomforting nature. I tell myself it won't be more than I can tolerate and try to run towards it and get it over with.
I also think that the things we most fear are the things that come to pass! I hated the idea of having my eyes touched or messed about with, so regular trips to the eye hospital seemed just designed for me. Nervous about my important places the recent health scare and having the balls pulled about was rather unpleasent, as was the prostate check I got free for the money at the same time! mad
Get used to it as early as you can....
I like my dentist, she's lovely! very quiet soft southern Irish accent, and sooo gentle, like have a miniature ballet dancer tip toeing around your gob
and best of all, when she leans over you, she has some very classy lingerie to perv at down the front of her dress to take your mind off things!
I love going to the dentist - not keen on the pain etc but when I lay back on the chair and he tips me backwards - - - - (calm down you lot this is not a sex scene) - - - - I can feel my spine stretching and relaxing - honestly I could lay there for hours and I would care what he did.
On the point of the terror, some people get huge help from hypnotism, they don't knock you out but they let you sort of separate your mind from the fear and pain and it;s as if it;s happening to someone else. But then Heroin has the same effect and is probably cheaper. LOL
Ok... I'm in a naughty mood......
I hear talk about dentists and prostate checks etc... but try having a bloomin smear test!

I'm lucky in that I now go to a dentist who is very good at his stuff. Prior to this, I went to a right butcher - he once started drilling less than 3 seconds after he put the anaesthetic in. When I told my new dentist about that, he went slightly pale and asked why hadn't I complained?
