My challenge is this - what is the gadget thing called that i need to plug in to my lappie to connect it to the wirelss hub thing I have at home (so I don't have to ask for a gadget thing in the shop).....and where do I get one? Oh and can anyone recommend a make?
Nice and simple folks, I don't do technology......
Thanks!

you need a wireless card for your laptop thats all, sits in the side and you will need the software provided by you isp
a wireless network card
and you can get then here
or you can buy an adapter that goes into a usb port...it looks a little like a memory stick!
Just tell them you need a wirless adaptor for your laptop
That's what both our kids have. £20 from Argos and plug/play. Dead easy.

Now we are wondering if there is any way we can make the damned lappie download quick all the time??

Whilst in no way being sure, i would say, it could be a interference problem, microwaves, wireless av senders or infact someone else using a wireless router that is more powerful than yours, close to you (MIMO or an 802/n if your using a 54kb 802/g one will sometimes overpower it, something to do with the way the frequency band is used) having the router too close to your monitor can also interfere. Also if your using a laptop and moving around to different rooms the signal can degrade in different areas, to solve this it's advisable to keep the router somewhere central, we keep ours in the hall at the bottom of the stairs, we can get 54mbps anywhere in the house. Hope this helps.
<edit> It may also be worth running a full virus/spyware scan as this could be hijacking your connection at times.

Oh yeah :welcome: to the forum Tiger x
we've bought a computer for our daughter at Xmas I she's now wanting the internet. Is there any way round in which we don't have to pay additional monthy payments?
Does this wireless thingy work on all pc's or just laptops
(please excuse my ignorance, I'm no good with computers redface )
HnH, it works on PC or laptop. You need to get a wireless thingy (hub?) and then you get extra bits to plug into other computers or laptops.
You won't have any more monthly payments than you have now.
Right techy that, hmm? redface

it works on a pc to you have to get a wireless card same as laptop. you then share your bandwith.

thanks Ukwineman - does this mean we have to go on the same sites as our daughter
Can't see me playing on the club penguin games some how :giggle:
Deffo don't want her sharing this site either
No, it doesn't mean that HnH - our kids both have access but they can't see the sites we use, or vice versa.
shareing bandwith means that if you have a 1meg line and you both on it at same time you have 500k each.
Not as simple as that thats it. Makesure you protect each pc with the passwords so that other people cant snoop your computer.
