Hi what does it mean when the lady you are friends with or in a relationship with suddenly stops talking to you. Is she sulking, angry or what? I have problems with this because women are generally more articulate then men and more willing to talk about what is upsetting them then men are. I know it can mean more than one thing, but how you supposed to deal with it. Ignore them back? Give them some space or just persevere? I mean if you have made a misake and apologise about it, some women may still give you the old silent treatment. I mean WTF are you supposed to do? Ignoring your phone calls is another version of this is'nt it?
I go silent when I'm really pissed off - and believe me silence for me is almost unbelievable. I need space and time to come down if i'm that mad then i'll come round eventually, it might be different for others though. Mrs Rsab2 xxx
When I'm angry or upset I usually do the silent thing but only because I'd rather not say something I'll regret later. Sometimes I do let all the anger/emotion out as it's probably the best thing to do in some situations but as long as it's well thought out and not something I'll regret later!

Well, sometimes we do the silent treatment on purpose, cos we know it bugs the crap out of you. But sometimes, when we're really hurt, we fall into silent mode until we can figure out how we want to deal with stuff, because sometimes it's better to say nothing at all than say all the wrong things that we will totally regret. In my experience, the trick with the silent treatment is all about timing. When she hits the mute button, leave her alone for a bit. Successfully getting the volume back up (without the arguement) is then down to picking the right moment to ask what is wrong, or buy flowers if you know you did something wrong. Leave it too long and you'll get shouted at, followed by more silence - for longer. Obvously the bit no-one can answer is how long do you leave them alone. By the way - I am not branding every woman the same, I'm sure there are others like Mrs Chris who are very reasonsable when having the hump with their men..........
HHmmmm silent treatment is an art,and very difficult to maintain for any longer than 5 minutes! The trouble is that you guys should be able to work out way your getting it,thats the problem half the time, You need to think!! Clare,xxx
The silent treatment is very easy for a woman to maintain as long as you keep talking, phoning, whatever. The moment you shut up she will ask you what the problem is. The correct response is "No problem, darling, I'm just watching the footie. What time's dinner?"
What is this 'silent treatment' you all speak of? Is it when I wanna go to the pub and no-one else does? Is it when I wanna watch the cricket in the sunshine, with a spliff, and inadvertantly nod off? Is it when I get a crisp new MCN and am engrossed for hours? Gimme a clue here, guys!! Thought it might have been when I've got me gob full with a BJ, but I think I make noises then, so that's not silent either. The amount I 'practice' that, I should be able to do it stealthily, by now. :angel:
personally i dont do the true silent treatment... my silent treatment is punctuated by sighs, tuts and sniffs.... the intervals between them being shorter with increased anger. hope this helps!
When my wife goes silent on me I know I'm in trouble Depending on how I feel I either a) disappear and then reappear with flowers or a grovelling apology or b) hide everything that can be thrown. Put the kids somewhere to safety and then ask "Is everything okay darling ?". Having said that I always apologise first thing in the morning for all the things I do to really annoy her without realising or meaning to :D
