Has anyone been watching the news today?
" the anti-impotence drug that has so far helped men who have lost their sex drive, will become available for women on the NHS (National Health Service) from this week.
Intrinsa- the female version of a well known blue tablet - is now all set to change the sex lives of women.
The drug will initially only be obtainable on prescription for post-menopausal women diagnosed with sexual problems.
The new treatment for women works by letting loose the male hormone testosterone through the skin into the bloodstream.
The patch, which is about the size of an egg, is put on just below the navel and changed twice every week.
Other tests showed that it worked on women suffering loss of libido after a hysterectomy.
The Intrinsa patches worked by increasing the level of testosterone in the blood. Though it is recognized as the male sex hormone, it is naturally occurring in women too, secreted by the ovaries and the adrenal gland.
According to experts, the therapy would benefit women having a hysterectomy and others having a premature menopause before the age of 50.
Makers went for a patch system rather than a pill, which would have led to too high a dose, to avoid the unfavourable effects of testosterone, which could cause excessive body hair and liver disorders.
Unlike the blue thing, the patch does not work immediately; it takes weeks to have an effect.
Intrinsa works on a completely different principle to the blue thing because women's sex problems are down to social, phsychological and emotional factor, dissimilar to men's difficulties that is physical."

Some are saying it's another fraudelent way of making the government some money, others think it's great news for women. Personally I think it's great especially for women who've have a hysterectomy.
I think it's great to be able for women to have the choice and to return someone or give someone as near a good order working system as possible. As for the government making cash who kmows? At least this time it's not by denying the freedom of choice.
Yes I read about these testosterone patches yesterday in the paper, I thought I may wear 20 at once and see if my voice gets any deeper. lol wink
Seriously though I think it could do a lot for a lot of women (and their partners!).

20? :laughabove:
isn't there a high rate of marriage break ups due to women not being in the mood? (and men sometimes), if that's the case these patches are a godsend!

Yes I agree Jaymar, it will be nice for those women who have a low libido to be able to trying something that may help.
I don't need the patches but I am curious to try them out because I'm nosy like that.

I agree on the first point. I think there may be a fair few women out there who would be more than willing to give them ago.
Kiss, if you trying the patches means that we get more of your scene replay thread type posts then I'll ensure you get some in the post. Purely for research purposes of course wink

Maybe I will write about another one of my experiences later if I get time.
I looked up the patches and they aren't available to buy yet. But I think they are available on prescription for those women who are suffering genuine sexual dysfunction.
When they do eventually go on sale a few of us could try them at the same time and report our findings. :P
"Abnormally high testosterone levels in women can lead to a variety of symptoms. Most often, women with high testosterone levels develop male pattern hair growth (hirsutism), especially on their faces and chests. More rarely and over time, some women may experience virilization, which is increased muscle mass, redistribution of body fat, enlargement of the clitoris, deepening of the voice, male pattern baldness, acne, and/or increased perspiration"
Maybe only use it if you need to ?
Like viagra....it's a good idea to acquaint yourself with what you shouldn't do than just to do it !
Seeing as it's only going to be available to women by prescription I am sure that the gp's prescribing it will make them aware of the side effects.
From what I've read it's only going to be made available to women who have had a full hysterectomy and can no longer naturally produce their own testosterone (yes we of the female species do produce a little testosterone naturally, it's not just a blokey hormone you know)
I also believe the comments made by both myself and kiss were entirely tongue in cheek and jokey on the subject.
So now women won't be complaining any more about all that spam in their email inbox being inappropriate. lol

Well said that woman!
Trust me I am well versed in the effects and side effects of Testosterone.

As I am currently suffering from something similar I would jump at the chance to try it out.... biggrin

I think that's the general idea, it's a new thing out specifically designed at women who need it and especially as loss of libido comes hand in hand with certain operations. So it's a godsend.
There will be women who'll take it recreationally and if the men can do it, why can't the women?

Why would women take it recreationally? if they're inclined to have sex recreationally, surely that means there's nothing wrong with their libido anyway? Men use V to maintain erection don't they? - women don't need that to want/have sex.

Yup, I have an overload of hormones but mine is due to Polycystic ovaries.
I know Celestria and Kiss were having fun, and why not? Men are known to walk around with stonking great erections for days after taking viagra for fun (yes I realise the medical issues with taking these drugs for fun)and we have light hearted banter about that, so now it's the women's turn, smashing!

Why wouldn't they??
I'll be honest, I would be curious to see if it increased my libido even further.
Of course men take V to maintain erections but you can't tell me SOME men don't take it even when they don't have erection problems and therefore just to make their fun last days, sometimes being able to make love within shorter time scales?
My main view of the female patch remains the same, it's great for women who've had problems, I was simply replying to someone elses comments.
Ah, point taken. So, not the need to take it so much as doing it for curiosity's sake?
Not arguing with you Mar kiss

confused Surely it is going to cost them money not make them money dunno
I'm not just whinging here...and I'm not bothered about viagra. Viagra isn't a hormone, testosterone is. I was referring to the side effects of using hormones. The bodies feedback system takes time to re-adjust when the hormone isn't being taken again...so the body has less naturally produced testosterone after taking the medical doses....this usually only occurs after prolonged use. Have fun.

I have increased problems caused by PSOC in the last 15 years but I have not heard of it affecting libido?
I had read tons of stuff on the subject, including being a member of the PCOS support website but if you know more than me, please drop me a pm, always willing to learn more about the damned problem
Just a quick word here on this subject. I thought all talk of anything like this was banned!!! Seems the rules again only apply when suited...
I don't really mind... in fact welcome chat like this in here as it's what the real world is about but have to say I'm surprised by the double standards being set yet again... Seems some can some can't as always!

It doesn't affect libido in the slightest.. I said I have an overload of hormones, it affects my weight, my moods, my hair growth etc., but not my libido.. fortunately lol

I think its a valid subject for what its worth, very relevent to alot of people but at the time I asked the word was total and even threats of being banned followed!! Anyway not going to harp on about it just wanted to say it didn't get missed lol.... Good to see some people have lightened up about such things...

Hi Mike, I know it's not a personal dig, but I was unaware Viagra was banned as a subject, but on this occasion it's with reference to femaile treatment, but I guess it's the same as men's treatment.
Again, didn't know this was a banned topic :?
The topic of viagra was brought up this time in a legal medical way so I left left to run.
Any post that wanders from that will be deleted and bums spanked.
If we can all be sensible about it then the subject is open to discussion
Admin or any other mod is free to disagree with me dunno

Thanks Dawnie, that's OK and I'm fine with the other one also - I've had my questions answered smile
