I am a bit (read - lot) of a whinger about stuff i know but i find some stuff disagreeable in chat forum lingo. For example:-
Hun, whats that all about then? I understand that it's possibly a vague term of endearment or just a way of replying when it,s difficult to remember a tag possibly. Obviously it stands for honey so why make it hun why not hon . And if in forum come on how difficult is it to add 2 letters and change the 'u' to a 'o'?.
Another is the word 'oi' oh now come on would you shout that across a room or street or shop? Why then in a chatroom or forum the words i think you'll find, should be excuse me!
nite instead of night !!! for crying out loud
K instead of Ok.....durrrrr
I Hate the Accronym pmsl to. I mean that would really be quite embarassing - in a chatroom sometimes there are so many peopl 'pmsl-ing' that we are all drowning in cyber wee
Ok - Open for business. You got problems with little stupid irritating things like I have are you sad too with nothing to do but be sad? Add a gripe or two :lol2:

redface guilty as charged on many of those.....sorry hun....i consider my legs well and truly slapped! lol
I just take "hun" as a friendly punctuation in a sentence.
Where I live we say "mate" or "matey" to men and women, other people say "duck" - I just look on it like that. I think it's especially useful in written messages like this, where there's no tone of voice.
And it's obvious why people write "hun" - it's not because they don't know how to spell honey, it's because "hon" rhymes with "one", and sounds daft.
i write hun on the end of a sentence if im talking to someone i know well if they have a very long chat name with 20 silibles in it and there are many start with "north....." in the room i frequent so just using north or whatever becomes confusing i made up owt nic names for em all k i hate those whispers that just say "hi" ...............erm hello shy yes but no one is that shy ffs "im local fancy a shag now" "hey i seen u the doctors the other day" "did u" "yeh you was there with your son" and then does on to descibe what you was wearing etc and which doctors in the chatroom rolleyes oi what happened to descretion pmsl

I agree. To start getting irritated by terms of endearment is looking a gift horse in the mouth. It's the intention of meaning that counts.
Sometimes people use familiar terms when they don't know the other person well enough to do so. Again it's the intention of the meaning that counts and can, in that instance, be taking a liberty. The words don't matter.

surely life's tooooooooooooo short for getting aggravated over such things!!!! isn't it????
its a "CHAT" room..... where people CHAT..... its not a litterary luncheon or book club where those with a love of the English Language congregate to glorify the use of language.......

Yes it's a chat room, yes people go there to chat but to me that means have a conversation and get to know people, not be over familiar with people you've never spoken to or get bombarded by people whispering things that they wouldn't dream of saying in person. I talk to people in chat as if I were talking to them anywhere else and I expect the same back.
The usual ones of 'I'm close to you, wonna fuck?' without so much as a hello - like geography is the only issue, or whispering then pretending they did it by accident, or whispering the same thing to everyone in the room.
And don't get me started on hun and babe.
H.x
And all this started from the guy who always gets his letters confused!!
Put the kettle on Lost..there's a hun....mwah!!!
No ones mentioned.. lol... yet!

See they told you when you were little too much of a good thing will make you go blind!!!!!
Sheeeeeeeeeeez! hehehehe
My pet hate in a chat room is the person - so often an individual of the male persuasion - who marches in (well, as much as you can in cyber-space) announcing :"bi-m, colchecster, can acomm, whisper if interested" or some such statement.
It's a CHAT room for crying out loud. Not a railway station lacking an announcer "the train now arriving at - - " etc.
And then - when they get no response presumably - they post it again. Word for word, and obviously they are copy/pasting. So they add being bone idle to their errors.
ps. aplogies to any bi-males in Colchester - that was a made-up example. bolt
