Surely it's all relative?
I regularly drive, sorry, crawl past two businesses across the road from each other.
A small, family owned farm shop- if I worked there I'd be content with a tenner, and on the other end of the scale, a multi-billion turning over little-blue-pill producing pharmaceutical giant.
Yes, they have thousands of staff so giving them all a crisp £50 may be difficult, but I would at least expect a bloody fantastic party!

I guess it is relative if a christmas wish is based on hard faced value, I just happen to take it for what it is supposed to be which is a goodwill christmas wish. dunno
Dave, trust me I'm thelast person to base my Christmas upon "hard faced value" - however the discussion was on monetary matters, so thats what I commented on.
Give me a hug anyday! wink

If you don't give staff a gift your a scrooge, if you give em a gift that they don't deem large enough they take umbrage, fucked if I know what an employer is supposed to do by way of wishing folk a happy christmas. If it aint big enough for you just donate the fucker to someone who will appreciate its face value and bigger value, which is the spirit in which its given.

I am one of the last people that would be ungrateful for something given - Christmas to me is not what you get or its monetary value.
You talk about the spirit in which it was given - A printed out card without even a name on it - I hardly call that "wishing folk a happy christmas", especially when you have worked your ass off all year, made them money as well as saved them money. If it were a small struggling business, the £10 would have meant more, but believe me, they have insulted, not just by the amount but also by the "spirit in which it was given". A written out card would have been more personal and appreciated than what they have done.
We had our xmas do last night, a meal out........ all was great till we went back to the car to find all the locks and doors frozen shut hehe Nothing quite like being on the tipsy front, stood in ya glad rags in freezing fog trying to get car doors open. Only me found it amusing.... lol

After reading some of the post here I must be very lucky to work with such a good bunch of gals & guys. Had a couple of really good parties on the run up to chrimbo just a shame they are all done now.
Roll on next year. biggrin
I received the wonderful sum of £20 as my bonus last year.
I gave it, along with a matching £20, to a guy selling the Big Issue and wished him a Merry Christmas. The look on his face meant more to me than a £200 bonus would have done.
went to go on my Xmas lunch yesturday but my stomach decided that the kebab I had the night before was a bit dodgy so I was sick all day redface

Awwww :therethere:
Hope you feel betterjust after someone else cooks xmas dinner for you wink
Well Sheddy and I made it to his Xmas 'do' on time for once (not that I'm ever late redface ) I did have to spend the whole journey to the venue reminding sheddy that we were attending a vanilla 'do' and so perving/gropping pretty girlies was not necessarly the done thing....... confused
So, to cut a long story short, the Shedster was very well behaved (and looking particually dashing biggrin ) whilst the artist formally known as pishedkate, actually remained sober (I was driving sad ) and a good night was had by all, especially when I discovered that I am actually a poker genious  watch out the casios of the NW PK is on her way......... :?
Now I've just got to get through mine tomorrow night, but as it's free booze, I reckon I'll be fine so long as I don't tell my MD that I think he's a tightwad........... :? then again, so long as he's drunker than me he might just forget about it......... lol

:giggle:
Glad you enjoyed the "do!"
I'm not havin one this year.... student now  gutter!
I am on a temp assignment for 3 weeks and started on Monday.... I expected nothing but I got a lovely box of Ferrero Rocher biggrin
Last year I got a £30 voucher for Tasco's and I was only a temp there too, although it was a 14 month contract :lol2: They invited me to their Christmas Lunch recently as well which was really nice :D
For me I dont expect a bonus but when it is forthcoming it is appreciated all the more :D

It's not that I don't like these people. It's more that they are people I work with rather than friends. I've always believed that work's work and not to be confused with your private life.

I wouldent let work stand in the way of making a firend. Some of my long term friends I met in previous lines of employment and I am sure some of the ones I work with now will be the same in years to come. Different folks for different strokes I guess.

Yikes guys some of you need new jobs I couldent be arsed working all year with a bunch of people I cant stand.

So thats what I'm doing wrong.....
I'm off down the garden to pick a new job off the job tree......Its easily recongnisable as its the tree next to the money tree(the one will all the £20 notes growing on it) rolleyes
.

It sure is smile you must be a wise old sage. Choose a job, work in one you dont like work in one you do like its all within your own power to change. Whatever you want to do you will find most jobs the same the people at the top always get more than those below as you have obviously noticed from previous posts. Look for the tree marked self employment as 98% of rich people are self employed. If like me you cant be arsed with self employment at the moment then either sit at the bottom of the tree and be happy (this is what I do) or work like fuck and if you are lucky by the time you are 60 you may be on 50k for a few years before you retire. Personaly I have met and shook hands with self employed people who earn 70k a month without working there butts off, at the moment I just cant be arsed to emulate what they do. This is mainly cus I am a lazy git whos get up and go got up and went. Maybe one day I will maybe one day I wont but in the mean while I will work in a job that gives me as little hassle as possible.
Cheers

Not really no....
The fact that I earn the thick end of 30k a year as a mechanic should indicate that I am quite good at what I do....
But to simply go find another job !!!!!
As I say...............Not of the real world......

We must live in differnt worlds :) Been in my job now 2 years 6 months longest job I ever worked previous longest to that was 8 months. Every time I have changed job I have improved wage and level of job satisfaction without being any less happy at work.
I was also out with a mechanic last night for Xmas drinks. Dunno what he earns but he has 2 houses 2 horses a field and takes regular trips down under. He also chages job quite frequently dunno
Anyway whatever I am a firm believer that we are all masters of our own destiny and with that in mind am off to make Macoroni cheese on toast :D
Cheers
