i was once told that councils use traffic lights to slow down traffic on purpose by being out of step with the next phase of lights so keeping car speeds down through built up areas :cry:

I love my car I love driving my car and I will carry on driving my car for as long as i am allowed to even though the powers that be try their utmost to prevent me by making it so expensive that only the more financially able or cost supported travellers can remain doing so (which of course would include them)

That would be the assumption that the traffic "planners" do not already know that traffic flows better with less obstructions. But in many towns drivers are faced with the facts: That many traffic "control" systems are designed to slow the flow and evn to make certain directions unpleasant to drive in.

I speak as the driver of a gas guzzler myself my friend - but I can assure you that the cost of private motoring has reduced in real terms over recent years as opposed to public transport costs increasing.
Private motorists have never had it so good - make the most of it while it lasts because it won't be long.
