Would you choose to go to heaven or hell?

Imagine that you are at the pearly gates and one direction takes you to heaven and the other takes you to hell.
If you go to heaven then you have to spend the rest of your existance being good and being around good souls. There is no evil, there is not bad and there is no bad people, but... you have to live by the 10 commandments and once you are there, there is no going back since you are already dead, it will be eternally 'nice'.
In contrast in hell, there are evil people like murderers there, but there are also your adulterers, all the homosexuals and bi curious people (as they're not allowed upstairs) all the people that coverted over their neighbours things (including their wife/hubby) and people who generally didn't keep to the rule book or repent for doing it.
Where would you prefer to be? There is no middle ground, you can't have a bit of both (which I think most of us do in reality) It is one extreme or the other.
I'm not going to say where I would put myself as yet, as I don't want to influence anyone or for anyone to start pointing at me trying to tell me my opinions. This is purely based on how I was led to believe heaven and hell was as a child, so pretty ficticious, but who really knows?

Well seeing as nobody that I know of has come back from either place ever, it has to be ficticious but....Given a choice I would probably opt for I dont think anyone can live their lives by the ten commandments or maybe some can.
Seeing as I have done some naughty things in my life then hell is where I would go anyway...if it exists of course. lol
They both sound like hell as the 'upper level' will be full of smug bloody christians who'd get right on my tits :scared:
At least i'd know lots of people elsewhere wink

It's more or less only Christianity, Islam and Zoroastrianism that believe in hell. I am none of these and so look forward to some kind of heaven!
There are worse principles to guide your afterlife than the 10 commandments - I wouldn't need to covet my neighbours' asses (or partners) because, it being heaven, I will have perfect asses (and partners) of my own.
I would plump for Hell.
Why?.... Cos I would meet plenty more people off here.

You mean there is a Heaven and Hell, no choice I would be sent down, I have been a non-believer far to long.
I dont have a choice. Once upon a time a very religious person told me I would burn in hell so it must be right must'nt it lol
Well I've been to Milton Keynes so even Hell can't be that bad.
So I choose Hell. I'd far rather be bad for eternity than good.
I'm making this up though, as there is no Heaven and Hell, unless you talking about the Vangelis album of course. rolleyes
I have to admit I am not religious and don't really buy the heaven and hell thing, but if it were to be true, being the spawn of an adulterer I reckon I was going south before I even breathed fresh air, so why fight it?
I'll see you guys there, but I don't want to be first lol.

This is hell, isn't it?

Thats a funny comment there as my Aunt who was a devout and I do mean devout catholic also used to say we was in hell already.
Sometimes from what I see she may well have been right. dunno

who missed the point Dawkins is the prophet of doom, his explanations cannot proof that God doesnt exist!...on this programme he took a bunch of school kids and tried effortlessly to convince them out of their religious believes but in vain!

What makes you think you would get in there? If you do now believe in Heaven and Hell, do you not think you should rush to church and repent your sins? You can't just think, "Oh dear, I'm going to croak it, I had better repent" You have to start from now.
Seriously you had better consider your membership here because I reckon he doesn't approve.

what was the point of you putting up the thread if you expect all of us to choose hell and who are you to judge my destiny

and who are you to judge my destiny

A part-time clerk in the association of destiny judges?
I believe in Heaven and Hell. I believe that Heaven is the place where YOU will be the happiest and Hell is where you would be least happy.
Heaven:
Calorie free chocolate.
Loads of people to chat to.
Surrounded by music.
Clothes that FIT.
Peaceful valleys & vibrant cities.
Lots and lots of gorgeous guys.
Hell:
Loads of delicious food all of which makes me fat.
Always too warm or too cold.
Noisy without being interesting.
Full of smoke (apologies to smokers but I hate the smell of cig smoke).
Work when I'm tired.
Just not enough money for anything but essentials - no fun and no treats.
Bugger - just realised I am in Hell right now. LOL But you get my point. Heaven is GOOD not necessarily 'being' good.
Well said Foxy.
I have watched this thread with some interest. Without any religious connotation and purely from a self-indulgent point of view, of course I would always choose heaven.
But then my heaven could well be someone else's idea of hell...

the burden of proof is not with dawkins,as he is not the one making the claim for the existence of god/heaven/hell as you cannot prove that the flying spaghetti monster or russell`s teapot dont for that matter you cant prove that the thousands of other gods from other cultures and times weren`t real/
Dawkins just points out the illogicallity of such beliefs, and the human traits that promote them.
once read a quote that said "we are all atheists,i just believe in one less god than you"

Actually it's a fair few other brilliant, intelligent, educated and well-read people's too, but if you think you know better then who are we to argue?
I've always wondered why people are so keen to believe in something that not one single shred of scientifically proven evidence has ever been gathered regarding its existence.
Fair enough that they wish to believe, that is their personal choice and their right to do so. I just wonder why? I can only guess that the "chinese whispers" syndrome is a very powerful force.
The obvious comment that needs to be here is that I am not saying that no-one should believe in God (or whoever your personal deity is), that is up to the individual. I do wish sometimes though that people start asking more pertinent questions and less loaded questions about their reasons for believing.

This is one of the points where I have difficulty with the repent thing. I mean you could think... I really fancy murdering 100 people today, but I do want to go to heaven. I know... I'll repent after I have done it and everything will be fine.
Surely if you go into something knowing that it would not be accepted by the rules of heaven and do it anyway you are sticking your fingers up and expecting to be given a pat on the back just for acknowledging it after as wrong? If you new it was wrong when you did it.
So... someone swings all their life (which breaks a fair few rules) knowing that they intend to go to heaven and deliberately continues with the intention to repent at the end. Is it fair to the person who chose not to break the rules in order to get there all their life? You can imagine the shock on their face when they find their neighbour is the one that fucked their wife of 20 years for fun.
It's all too obtuse for me. I reckon I'm going for the after life angle and I'll come back as a pussy.

i dont know what you are being defensive about i meant the flying spaghetti is Dawkins' famous quote
After reading that the Flying Spaghetti Monsters followers believe Pirates to be absolutely divine beings, I'm in. :smug:
Worship me, you know you wanna :rascal:
