I got my first car last month a G reg 1990 mark 4 escort. Learning to drive in a brand new vauxhall corsa (i love duel control LOL) Condidering i am on a provisional etc my insurance was cheap (under £500) I have been out in my car once....cant get back in it till i get me handbrake fixed as hubby broke it lol
I bought my first car a couple of days after passing my test (first time I might add cool ) in December 1979.
I'd passed my test on the Monday and literally bought the first available car within four days. It was an ancient Austin 1300 about 22 years old colour turquoise and completely clapped out but I adored it lol Paid £160 which was more than a months wages for me as a junior secretary confused
Trouble was the starter motor was always getting stuck, so if I had to stop anywhere, lights, motorway junctions etc, I was forced to jump out, open the bonnet and thrust the blade of a screw driver in between the teeth of the starter to get it moving again. Not funny when there are cars backed up behind you for miles and miles  redface
As knackered as it was, that car took me all over the country and I was sorry to get rid of her when Jon and I got married and I was forced me to sell my car in preference to his because we couldn't afford two cars once we had a morgage and there was no way in the world he would be seen dead driving my car rolleyes
His was a MK4 Cortina and after driving my little Austin I found it really difficult to drive his car. It was not only huge, but had a Cosworth engine fitted and it went like a rocket
I didn't care if the car was ancient, had tacky vinyl seats in beige and was always breaking down. I have very fond memories of her and some of the good times I had on the back seat

Datsun 100A (Cherry), gold, registration LWF919P, bought for me when i passed my test waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy back in July 1982 ( I was 17)

My first car was a red 1976 mini clubman estate. (the one with the two doors opening into a reasonable boot).
Good points.
Bought it for £250 from a famous motorcycle racer (IOM TT Fame)
Passed my test in it.
On the night of passing my test,...... well you'll have to ask Dawn that wink
Could beat anything across the traffic lights (see bad point no 1)
Bad points
Front tyres only lasted 5 / 6 thousand miles.
Needed repairing evey weekend just to get it roadworthy for monday
and the worst "bad point". After a dirty weekend away in Norfolk in our late teens, Dawn decided it would be a good idea to see if the car would roll backwards if she took the handbrake off. Well, it was parked on a hill!
Even after it had rolled over my left foot (leaving me 150 miles from home and in agony) the car just carried on rolling.
I'm sure its now in the big breakers yard in the sky having been sold for fifty quid after two years of motoring.
Ian.
ps Dawn's first car was a blue 900cc mini. Bought for around 400 quid and sold 6 months later for a nice tidy profit which was used a a deposit on our first house.
i passed my test in 1989 and my first car was a "s" reg red vauxhall cavalier. I loved that car and would have another one today.

My first car was a 1972 VW Type 3 Fastback, I loved that car!! It had 2 boots one in the front one in the back, hours of fun getting friends to try and find the engine!!! (it was under a hatch in the back, you had to roll back the carpet. Since then i've had 1 beetle 2 campers and 3 golfs and i'm thinking of swapping my golf for a Beetle again (old Style)
Any other vw'ers here?

Dawn :silly:
Dawn and Ian,
I wonder what happened to your Mini Clubman after it starting rolling down the hill and where it ended up? I have a mental image of a man limping down a hill chasing after a Mini Clubman, shouting and waving his arms.
My first car was also a mini clubman estate, mine was white. I transported an old fashioned pram in the back of it, from one sister to the other, doubt I could have done that in anyother car I have owned since! When the back seats were put down flat it was such a great regular shape. I got a chest of drawers in there once too!
I was offered £100 for the number plate by a bloke who did some work on it, something to do with his nickname. JOP400P.
I part exchanged it for a red mini metro which I then sold before going to work overseas. I've driven loads of different cars since then.

:P Don't know if they do them in diesel, but you can't go wrong with a micra.

They do, but diesel isn't generally regarded as economic on a small car. The Skoda Fabia is probably the best car in its class, taking quality and vfm into account.
I think I just recommended a diesel Skoda  Sounds like the punchline to a bad joke, but they're excellent little cars these days smile
my first one on the road was a triumph 2000 1970 it went like shit
then i cant remember all the rest ive had loads
me triumph cost me 15 qwid and lasted me 3 months and i sold it for 150 kwid
xxxxxxxx
My first car was a dull orange ford escort with a black spoiler on the back...well i thought it looked cool...xr3i style. I was only 20 didn't know much about cars should have twigged when it was solded to me as spare parts and scrape!
1968 Ford Corsair 2000 V6: I loved that car.
White, leather seats, rolled like a ship. Did 25 to the gallon-not petrol, body filler. I 've never seen a piece of engineering rust so fast. You couldn't hear the radio above the sound of rotting metal. How I wish I had it now
my first car was my beloved series 3 landrover, lovingly stripped down to the last bolt and rebuilt by my fair hands, after 4 years of loving ownership it had to go.... you can't beat the character of a back to basics motor, though I wont miss it's luke warm heater and it's 17miles to the gallon....saying that, I'm still pondering on getting one to do up again...ah the memories !

Me run?
Exercise as far as I am concerning is walking from the car to the chip shop.
No I was lucky. Once Dawn had converted my shoes into ones suitable for Ronald McDonald (tm) she reapplied the hand brake to she could piss herself laughing

um, well, the first car i ever drove after passing my test was my mums Peugeot 205 - i crashed it the day after i passed! redface
So the first car that belongs to ME is my little Daewoo Matiz - if anyone makes any comments about it having an engine the size of a hairdryer or any other similar comment i promise i will NEVER speak to you again - it's mine, and its cute, and i love it!! and mum and dad bought it for me and are paying the insurance so its even better, lol!
Like Red hot my first car was an Austin 1300. Only bad thing was replacing the water pump ...transverse engine with a split cowel around fan couldnt get bottom hose out because of bottom cowel and couldnt get bottom cowel out cos of bottom hose ...took me and my dear old dad ...a day and a half to sort it out all but 15 minutes ( the time it took to take out water pump and replace) on this bloody cowel .
Had some wonderful times with my first girlfriend on that back seat. S
econd car was a Mark iii Cortina ...with the really sexy curvey draft lines ...had some wonderful times on the front seat of that ...it reclined all the way heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy wink
My first car is an Audi A3, i just love it. The diesel turbo is amazing.
My first car was a 1982 ford capri was red....
Could not keep the back end on the road!
Paid £550 back in 1992......
Fiesta 950cc. Cost about £700! Quickly debadged, XR2 pepper pot alloys fitted, big bore exhaust and a sound system worth more than the car installed.
Yep I was a bad boy racer (I can hear the boo's in the background).
Grown up now though you'll be pleased to hear......
BOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! bloody boy racers. lol

The only problem is she is too small to have sex in sad but I shall endevour to do more testing on that score! ;)
Mike, the most interesting train journey was on the night train from Copenhagen to South Saeland. There was us shagging in one carriage and another couple shagging in the other carriage! It was soooo erotic due to being able to see your reflection in the dark glass and the thought of people seeing you as you whoshed past the stations..... mmmm
