This might seem callous but I kind of agree, I was 18, could have been doing anyhting but I'm sure it was fun.
I understand that John Lennon is an icon to many but, have to admit, never liked The Beatles (ok the odd song is great but....) and also slightly suspicious of anyone who sings 'Imagine no possessions' whilst owning an apartment just to keep fur coats stored at the right temperature!!! :shock:
PS This is not to say, of course, that I ever wanted the poor bloke dead, just don't like building up anyone to be 'gods'
As an addendum to my earlier post I have to admit that the way John Lennon has been canonized since his death seems to have been at the expense of the reputation of the other Beatles.
Like Paul McCartney, Lennon's post-Beatles solo career was very patchy, with good albums interspersed with dross.
It also seems that unlike a lot of the western world I believe Imagine (the song, as opposed to the album) is extremely overrated and is not only NOT the best song ever written, but is not even the best song on that particular album. (The excellent Jealous Guy is IMHO).

Until then it was something I'd fantasised about since my teenage years, but having not met anyone else interested in the lifestyle and originally not possessing the courage to go solo it remained a dream until I finally overcame my inhibitions 18 months ago to give it a whirl.
