Tried to login earlier but got a notice saying the site was down for maintenance. I don't have a problem with site maintenance but was wondering..... why don't you do it when it's not busy (or do you guys work on the same basis as the guys with the cones on the M!?) ...... and why don't you put a warning notice up on the site to let us know if it's planned - that's what most companies that try to keep their customers happy do?

Well, yes - many did not like them (myself included) however, there was a silent majority who did not express an opinion. So Admin, I feel, did an excellent compromise.
The still allowed the winks, but quickly came up with the optional auto responder. This may not be 100% perfect just now - but I reckon its a 95% solution whilst they come up with something that suits us all.
Dammie - if my alcohol haze has allowed me to completely get this wrong - please come and hijack me and take me somewhere warm and sunny with no telephones or PCs!!!!!

Hi Dawn and all, well done for keeping Burton on the map. Thanks for letting us know Elliot but I'll make the same comment as I did to you direct by PM - - twice in fact, although you didn't bother to reply - why are site technical issues being notified through the Cafe Forum? Most websites have a "what's new" or "site news" section where items like these are reported to all members. That way the forums are left to the general members chat that they were intended for and all the other users don't have to traipse around trying to find out what's going on.

A related comment......as you make more and more changes to the site, wouldn't it be better to have a "what's new" section so you can announce changes so those folks who don't use the forum get to find out what's going on too?

That still sounds a bit underhand if it is going on ...... what happens if you don't want to be associated with other sites?
I guess before we jump to conclusions we should ask site admin to comment on whether they are transferring details to other sites?
It's probably simpler than you think......most likely you're receiving unsolicited mail from guys who have found your profile through the local search on SH and are sending standard mails out to everyone, whether or not they've got an ad, in the hope of getting a reply.
