To be honest I think there was also a perception at the time that the Café was becoming swamped with Chatroomers posting gripes about the constant failure of the servers, having a new forum moved this elsewhere.

Not so much a perception but a reality.. and it's exactly correct!

Thanks Jags - finally caught up with this after three years!

It's a pleasure Captain Slow.... lol
I'll be watching!
Maybe a good time to revive this annual thread - Santa is preparing for his trip round the globe and the kids love to track him on Christmas Eve.

Well I'm not feeling at all fluffy after my day parked on various parts of the M1 - M18 and A1(M) so am prepared to copy and paste the answer!!

Bloody hell, you were near to me!
I was, for a very long time!! mad :x Got the traffic reports from:
Radio Leicester
Radio Nottingham
Radio Derby
Radio West Mids
Radio Sheffield
Radio Leeds
Radio Humber
Radio Cleveland - no idea why
Radio Tees - again no idea why
Radio Newcastle
At Leeming Bar there was a flipping guy driving an Aston Martin at about 46 miles an hour ... that made everything other thing on the A1 move over into the outside lane and so totally fucked up the road for miles and miles! Oh, and the flipping army vehicles (about 50 of them) playing overtaking each other at about 40 miles an hour too... Grrrrrrrrrrrr......

I'll bring the DVD. Chick flick or action thriller? You decide!

Just about to break open Ocean 13.. is that not both??
lol
Apparently "we're" going out to buy that one this week. Obviously I'm not so much a GC fan, but I've gotta admit I quite enjoyed the first two redface
I'd probably only watch it once but I also did enjoy the first two - and not only for GC.

thank you...curiosity satisfied

Can I lock this then??

but what about those posts that are immediately locked without giving someone the chance to respond?
& how long is given till a post is called broken?

Ah welll - we're damned by some if the thread is given some leeway and then damned by others if we lock it too soon. It's a matter of judgement, sometimes it's good judgement and then sometimes it's dodgy judgement. I try to let people be responsible and NOT break the site AUP and am sometimes disappointed and sometimes heartened.
Does this answer your question??
This is a quote from the site help section which can be found on the left hand side of the screen@
Why has my post/thread been locked/deleted!?
Firstly, please carefully read our Forum Posting Guidelines to gain some insight as to why this may have happened. Also, refamiliarize yourself with the forum registration terms you agreed to, paying particular attention to this section: You agree that the webmaster, administrator and moderators of this forum have the right to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time should they see fit.
Usually when a post is locked the reason is given by the Moderator who locked it. If your post/thread was deleted then it was most likely considered so pointless or such an infringement of the AUP that it should no longer remain on the site.
The possible reasons your post/thread was locked or deleted are too numerous to mention here, so we simply ask you to accept the decision and move on. What we certainly do NOT want to see is yet another post asking why your previous one was locked or deleted.
If you think your rights as a forum member have been abused and you want to have the matter looked into, please see our abuse page and send us as much information as possible, including your forum username and the link to, or content of, the post in question.

:P

This is just a general question out of curiosity..why do some forum posts get locked, so that other users cannot comment on the problem???

Is it not mostly obvious?
Have you read the site AUP - if a thread breaks it then it gets locked.
cool

I'll just whizz you out of Chatroom Lounge into Cafe for any responses.
I'm giving this thread a time out. It'll be locked until tomorrow morning to give all concerned time to cool down.
Its very sad when such a potentially interesting topic tips itself into such outright abusive views.
Any thread started about the same topic will be removed.
Any comments, complaints or suggestions about this locking send to my PM box please.
Non Mod hat on:
British is nationality
Asian is ethnicity - different things completely in this context.
My work involves collecting this sort of information from people (on a small scale).
Just before comments get too heated this MAY be an opportune moment to remind everyone of the site AUP:
Non Acceptable Behaviour.
Your account shall be terminated immediately and we may report you to the relevant authority if your behaviour on our website consists of any of the following:
Any comments which are hateful, or racist.
Abusive or aggressive behaviour towards fellow members, Ops/Mods or Administration staff.
The conversation is, as usual, going off topic, however please moderate tone and attitudes here. A good topic for debate is in danger of becoming unacceptable.

James May - sorry, I know that Captain Slow isn't the epitome of a gal's dream boat but I find him so attractive.
Each week I watch him on the wine show (and of course Top Gear) and each week I shock myself with my thoughts but I'm now becoming used to the idea.
Am I alone in this? Who do you fancy who isn't really fanciable??

Summat else entirely ... I've recently been posting on another swinging site forum (shock!horror!) that probably doesn't even have 10% of the membership, pics, ads, forum traffic as SH yet there are dozens of unanswered threads for the attention of mods and admin in their version of Help/Site problems section.
That is all. cool
edit: lol my point being, that while this site occasionally pisses all off at times for numerous reasons, it could be a helluva lot worse! wink

We do try hard... it's been said before but saying it again doesn't do any harm - ALL of us do this in our spare time after doing paid work, housework, children work, partner work, social work (I mean socialising there!!) and family work. Sometimes it takes ages, sometimes it take only a few hours. We could do with 'thanking' all the time but I accept that that isn't going to happen.
I enjoy my 'work' with SH, sometimes I feel valued (when I get a PM thanking me or some such stuff) and sometimes I feel that the other members don't give a shit (when I get an arsey PM or read an arsey post like I did this morning having a go at 'Admin' for no good reason) but I've been here long enough to go with the flow.
Uphill or downhill, the current is always strong, fast and turbulent!
