Mr DaveJ's explanation of eggs in pies shows, I am sorry to say, a common missconception of how British culinary tastes are being sloley eroded by an increasingly intrusive European Union. There are no doubt those that would argue that eggs in pork pies are "traditional" fare and, of course, in certain areas they are of course correct.
We should however look at the increasing proliferation of of foriegn foods that are to be found inside other comestables. I refer of course to pimentos in olives, cheese, bacon and garlic in chicken (a dasterdly scheme from the Ukraine of all places!) and of course the practice of placing toads in the hole which - although this may come as a surprise to the members of this site - is clearly a French inovation. There are of course other examples - chocolate in croisants, raisins in bread, and wrapping lamb in vine leaves.
Asfor the non stickiness of frying pans and other cooking implements I seem to remember a typically British solution being proposed by Blue Peter where the simple and effective use of sticky back plastic produced a frying pan that may have cooked a cold pancake but left a nasty taste on the bacon.
What more can we ask for?
Yours Sincerely;
Henry Root

Drink lots of water before going to bed - stops the dehydration.
Next morning, a full fry up! Bacon, eggs, sausages, bread, black pudding etc. It may be a case of kill or cure but seems to work for me.
If all else fails, Resolve is worth a go - I think it is basically glucose but again, seems to do the trick.
Do not on any account try the Dutch idea of a raw herring with onion especially if you fancy getting back into bed with your partner!
Best of luck.

I remember the Spitting Image songs.
Anyone else remember the Not the NineO'Clock News songs that they used to finish up with?
Nice Video - Shame about the Song is the one that springs to mind.

Well hello again to those that know me and a new hello to those that do not.
After a few months with trips abroad, family duties and generally getting on with life McCloggie feels that the time is right to get involved with the SH scene again. So, if I knock on the door of SH Towers and ask nicely can I get back in please?
There is nothing much to report, Mrs McCloggie is still in the picture, I am still based in the land of windmills, cheese and clogs and am still the same person!
Looking forward to hearing from you all again.

Well logged in tonight after a couple of weeks away and what can I say?
The site may look good but the light blue on white is utter rubbish and is just difficult to read.
Maybe it is because I am abroad, but I do not seem to need a postcode.
I suppose we wait and see, but PLEASE change the font colour!!!!!!!!

      Hi Jay;
Welcome from another Scot - although I am an an ex-pat!
Welcome to the asylum.

      Two answers:
First, my acustic guitar hero Leo Kotke who just happened to be playing in Holland in my town and i saw the concert advertised as I did my shopping on the same day. Had heard the guy originally on John Peel's show as a kid and then (although I hate to admit it) 30 years later actually get to see him live.
Secondly, saw the Eagles in Rotterdam a couple of years ago - brilliant.
Other great concerts? The Stones in Glasgow, Wilco Johnstone (ex Dr Feelgood) in Islington, Dire Straights at Wembly etc.
Most disappointing concert? - Clapton with Robert Cray in London - just far too clinical!

If the bird grows up with another animal it is usually ok and learns that it is not lunch!
I have photos of my cat with a snowy owl and they are sitting together to keep warm! They never went for each other. But yes, you must remember that a bird of prey is just that and it goes for an easy meal - that is its nature. You never own a bird like that - you only look after it .
Although I felt OK about the cat, there was a lady with a small, toy dog that used to walk past and the bird (Kergan) regarded it as a free meal and looked at it every time.
I do NOT recommend these birds as pets. We took on a barn owl that some kid had and he had been feeding it chicken fillets from the local supermarket! You must be prepared to cut up mice, rats, chickens etc. (and remove the yolk salcs), feed the bird the bones feathers and all as that is what they need, keep the bird's weight constant, check the pellets etc. If you are prepared to do this and fly the bird it ireally s the best thing out.
But please they are NOT pets.

This seems to have gone to a snake appreciation thread but as different "pets" - and I use the word carefully as they were NEVER pets - I have had a couple of owls and a kestrel in my time.

Has anyone put in a good bottle of malt yet?
Lagavulin or Ardbeg of course!

Only discovered the news this morning and have spent some time trying to catch up events.
I think that, given the way the site has expanded, it was inevitable that some changes were going to occur. I have no problem with Mark moving on and even making a profit on all the hard work he started but maybe some sort of explanation from the man himself would have been tactful.
I certainly do feel slightly worried that what was a "free" site/comunity can now be owned by a bunch of faceless people whose claim to success seems to be selling ring tones for phones and who have no idea at all about the swinging scene. As has been said before, this is now a commercial enterprise that will not be driven by members needs but by business reality and IF they fail and the whole site goes under then there is very little chance that we, the members, will be able to do anything about it or claim it back.
I am also worried about what a commercial business could do with our names and privacy etc. Even if I decided to leave/resign now, the new owners still have all my details.
So, what can we do? Not a lot really apart from waiting to see what happens and hope that our new owners - whoever they are - are genuine and that their changes are not too intrusive.
Sadly, I would not put any money on it.

      Nice to see this thread.
It shows that in the modern world people DO still care and, in particular, people on this site are still aware of the sacrifices that have been made not only in two world wars but also in the many other conflicts that have taken place over the last 60 years.
There is another thread just waiting to discuss these conflicts but this is not the time or place.
As yet another of the ex-forces crowd I too will be remembering those we have lost this weekend.

Nah sorry - cant put France into room 101! The good things still outweigh the bad things.
French people - yes well maybe but there again they make the country what it is.
My nomination is still Dutch drivers and Dutch people on bicycles who think they own the place. Oh yes - and Dutch traffic lights that take for ever to change as you wait for the bicycles, busses, pedestrians etc.

Sorry Dave but it was not me either!
Maybe Trig looking for Rodney?

I was in Oz last year and yes it is a great place (can not speak about NZ as never been there) and yes the emphasis is on being Australian. However, there ARE problems there with their own indigenous people. And yes, Blonde is correct as well - trying to get to get in there is not that easy as you have to prove that they need you.
As has been pointed out before, although I see were you are coming from Leeds, our history and the historical facts show that the Brits imposed their way of life all over the world (and so did the French, Dutch, and even the Americans as well - and that is not looking at what the Soviet Union did) these are historical facts so you can not complain too much when these countries impose their own values on their own society.
Now, being pissed off with the UK! yes I can understand that - that is why live abroad. The answer however is in your hands. The UK is more of a democracy than most other places in the world and if you do not like it you have the chance to change it (please do!) or put your money where your mouth is and join the ex-pat community.
I hear so often that there are guys in the UK who want to move abroad BUT when they are offered the chance of work, a place to stay and a life elsewhere they suddenly decide to stay back in good old Britain and continue to complain about it!
