Sorry but bollocks
Sorry but there is no need to smack hard enough to leave a mark...
If a child is raised with values then a slight smack is more than sufficient....
See my daughter for proof of that....
A light tap on the backside devastates her and she is 11 now...
My son is a different kettle of fish in as much as he suffers from a mental illness but still doesn't get smacked hard enough to leave marks....
Its bollocks to think its right and proper to smack so hard as to leave marks regardless of the reasons....
And i fail to see what the level of stubborness of a child has to do with anything but no doubt you will attempt to justify your actions in a wee while....

Excatly thats bollocks indeed a smack should be within reason no need to bruise your kids in the name of punishment or discipline
Looks like someone doesn't read. I specifically said not to bruise. The marks I'm referring to are red marks, not a full on bruise.
I just love the way people see what they want to see.
allow me to quote your own words pls
"Pain is required otherwise there is no point in smacking in the first inflict enough short, sharp pain to an older child requires sufficient force to leave a mark of some not reffering to bruising by the way .Im refering to a red you dont want to leave a weal then dont bother smacking use some other method of punishment"

what the difference between a bruise and a red mark???not every kid is pale or have a skin colour to produce red marks after short and sharp pain
well i rest my case, off to see about a goat
Good evening all

what would I do........ one last national amnasty to hand them all in, turn them all over.....
then after that...... anyone caught carrying a knife and doesn't have a bloody good excuse gets 5 years... no ifs, no buts, no exceptions

I forgot this bit, as I said before on a similar thread, we don't need new laws against carrying a knife, we just need to prosecute the people who stab people with a knife. Ban all knives and they will use screwdrivers, ban screwdrivers and they will use axes etc. The weapon is unimportant, the use to harm is the key. It's pointless criminalising people for just having a knife if they have done nothing wrong with it.
Its known that an weapon amnesty, whilst great and useful has found that it is the more law abiding citizens who use it. (Last time I went along to had some in, they showed me some of the other weapons given in and I was amazed at how lethal looking they are).
I thought that anything that could be classed as an offensive weapon like a screw driver if used in a threatening way was included in the legislation? Although that may depend on the situation I guess...
One of the other things I found is that *some youths* make there own weapons if they cant get hold of a knife or an alternative...when I spoke to the police they said they included these as well...thank goodness!
I think you'll find that anything in the wrong circumstances can be legally defined as an offensive weapon, including your car or a rolled up newspaper. It all depends on what you are doing with it at the time.
fabio used the word intentwhich can used to determine each case and circumstance of knife(weapon)pocession

a 12yr old girl sued her dad for grounding her after she was punished for posting her pics on a website, she won the case. thats just evidence who is running the country....labour seem to pass new laws every week since they came to power
stormwalker and pete_sw i totally agree with your statements but of course pete_sw i cant justice my quoted line but remember the sentencing for possesing knife got incresed to 5 years not long ago yet the increase of knife crime has not reduced

There is a danger of confusing Happiness with contentment on the one hand, and euphoria on the other.
Does being content with ones lot equal happiness? dunno
The difference to me is that contentment can be a continuous / constant state of mind, where as happiness comes in waves, i.e. at that moment when something good happens.
For instance, you could be quite discontent with your lot in general, but things that happen occasionally in your life can still make you happy at the time of the event. made sense when I thought it dunno
On the other hand really good / exciting things that can happen to us from time to time can leave us with a feeling of euphoria which is often misinterpreted as happiness. Again this emotion is transient rather than a constant.
All that said, I suppose if you are in a position where you have no worries such as financial, health, family friends and life is generally good, would this induce a state of constant happiness, or just contentment?
confused meself now rolleyes

Interesting you mention the lack of discipline in schools....
Maybe there should be more at home as well dunno
I'm thinking out loud really as I said I have no solutions but it really worries me especially as I have 2 kids who will be wanting more and more freedom as the grow older and to be honest I'm loath to let them out of my sight :-(

very true we must put more effort as parents to maintain discipline, but the new govt policies is even against parents smacking their kids,we seem to be in a loose loose situation
18 knifed since january
stiffer sentences would be idea but not even death sentence has reduced crimes in the states.
the situation is serously out of hand, the govt and the police need to do more but the source of all this goes back to schools, their is absolute no discipline in school nowadays the kids seem to think the law is protecting them, the teachers are not even allowed to raise voice at unruly kids
i wish celebrates would hold up rallies and campgains to talk to these kids who look to them as role models
prevetion is better than cure!
they actually made laugh 'the hairy bikers' on the cooking programme bbc1,so funny and their accent is fab
no wonder the Russians never smile, the sun is rearly shinning over there....c'mon summer i have to be happy

when younger..i was well into Politics..and was considering trying to become an MP...
If people bother to look...instead of reading the trollop fead to them by newspapers..they would find 90% of out MP's work bloody hard...they not only on call at the house of commons..but also have to work in local area..and go to vaorious workking groups. My Mp in cannock..i remember asking him to do a talk for us. he was fully booked with meeting and such like for two monthes..and that was every evening..including sat and sundays. Its easy and fashionable to knock our MP's...if you think you can do better..then put your money where your mouth is and stand for election.
I for one think they are resonably paid for the job they do.
If you really want a go...look at the bosses of large privately owned companies..and the tax fiddles and share issues along with the massively over budget pay rises they award themselves.

i second that, their expenses exceed their yearly pay....but the new ruling introduced early this evening will help stop any abuse of public funds
we dont need uneducated peasants representing us in the houses of parliament, most of this MPs are lawyers and barristers who can command millions just being a common citizen, its a life time sacrifice

I don't know why, but as I get older and do more, things seem to disappear off of the happy list, things that would have put me on cloud 9 when I was 18 just don't come along or have the same affect dunno

I can relate to that Steve...we do change as we get older and the things that hit the happy buttons do so now to a lesser extent or not at all. Our happy buttons are harder to press! Is it because we have already had certain experiences that made us feel happy and nothing can beat that?
am like you two somethings that made me happy now dont, but somethings which i hated in my teens now make me happy

Thank you hun! xx

am yet to conquer my worst fear
This is such a diverse question, what makes you happy?,can happiness be confined only on bank balance or context of a circumstance?,are we confusing joy with happiness...am slighty mixed up what happiness really is,
Any ideas?

What a day yesterday... went to London with my other half for the day, and because of problems due to the lorries in the centre, we could only go as far as Shepards Bush... We needed to get to Marble Arch. The only way to get there was a bus ride which would have taken another hour, or the underground.
Well, I have a fear of enclosed spaces.. I don't even like lifts! My other half is aware of this, and asked me if I was sure. Anyway we went to the underground and got tickets.. my poor old heart going into overdrive.. we got into the lift and as the door closed he said "we're all going to die!" Don't worry I got him back...
When we got down to the underground I was shaking like a leaf.. luckily a train was there and we got straight on so I didn't have to worry.. I used distraction techniques to stop feeling so anxious.. He was being rude.. so I turned round and said "is that a PDA in your pocket or are you pleased to see me?"
He couldn't stop laughing.. and I said it just loud enough for the people near us to hear.. they were all killing themselves laughing... and my other half couldn't stop!!!
Anyway, it lightened the mood, and I managed to face my fear, and don't feel half as bad now... thanks hunie for giving me the confidence... I'm quite proud of myself!
Anyway, off for my bath.. got a long day....
Hope everyone has a good day!!
PS honey... shall we go and find a few more escilators today...

ha ha well done girl!

I'm as happy to be in the company of gay people as straight. If a person was to hit on me (ah, memories rolleyes ) then my response would be based upon of I fancied that person or not, irrespective of gender. I react no differently to my dear gay friend kissing his b/f as I do any straight couple I know.
Homosexuality is, obviously, not what the human body was designed for, and to that extent it could be said that technically, it's not normal.
Congenital blindness is not "normal"
Downs Syndrome is not "normal"
Cleft Palate is not "normal"
Can anyone justify treating any of the above groups of people differently? dunno

of course the society treat them different with extra care, the situations they are in is not by choice
banghead
why are you banging your head?
Irony isn't your strong suit is it? You're not a yank are you?
you're opinion about me will never change what iam,so stick to the topic

ahh yeah. Gay people choose their sexuality in the same way that straight people do. I always forget that.
i didnt mention anything about the gays or straight...thanks for changing the knickers Btw biggrin
Oh FGS Phuckers, this is not a kindergarden. No one here was born yesterday. If you genuinely think that your implication was lost on us, or that by saying you "didn't say anything about gays or straights" will throw us of the scent of the point you were trying to make- then you're not as bright as I thought you were.
i seriously dont know what you are on about i only challenged the bolded sentence,i by no means hate gay people

Having had four kids I can honestly say that when (and yes, it's happened) one of them has been excluded from something that most of their peers have been doing- they get over it.
There may well be a sulk for a few minutes, but no lasting effects. There are dissapointments in life, kids need to learn to deal with them. They need to hear the word "no."
And if the Wilt's camping massive were to exclude me, I'd be thinking "what did I do?"
