So how do you know which beans to buy? With out labels it maybe difficult.

My moan wasn't about the unvaried things like beans, baked beans are beans the only variation is who supplies the beans with is told in the design of the label.
My moan was about labeling of people, the only label we can apply to people is humans. I think what society is doing is trying to become the designer so they can vary the labels.
There doesn't change the fact we are all humans. All the other labels have to many variables to be stuck on a human.

AC/DC was a slang term for bi-sexuality, if I had to label (and boy do I hate labels) I would rather have the term pansexuality i.e. attraction across all sexes, it makes so much more sense.

I totally agree with you, I hate labels. Labels are there for a system to keep things uniformed which is unvaried.
People are so varied to label them must be fundamentally wrong in theory.
Today I should be laying in the sun watching a game of cricket, rain has scampered plans. Now looking for alternative so I think I will put my music on and go and bake some cakes.
Then pop in here while searching for some more music I like.
I planned a day off from working so I might as well fill it with what I enjoy doing and have a selfish day while everyone else here are away doing what they enjoy.
I just want to moan about phone numbers you dial to talk to someone. You then don't get someone you get an automated voice that then gives you instructions and tells you to press a number that then leads you to more directions to another set of numbers that then says press 4 to talk to someone, you press 4 and get cut off.
3 times it happened to me yesterday, where the hell are the people they say you can talk to. Maybe nobody works there really but someone forgot to tell the automated voice.
Hello, I am Minx the quiet one.
I don't know what I am here for, I only signed up for a month to see what was here and I can't find my way back out.
Can anyway show me the escape route please?
I have just read a thread that mentions bullying in the forums and chat rooms. I have heard of bullying on facebook something I have never used.
After years at school being bullied as I wouldn't conform to a group of girls that thought they could control me both physically and mentally, I could stop the mental abuse as I wouldn’t let them control my mind but I couldn’t stop the physical.
For this reason I can never understand the term cyber bullying.
Bullying for me means you have no control to get away, at school I had no choice I had to go to school. I could have changed schools but thought at 12 it could happen anywhere. I could have told my parents but I never wanted them to worry about me at school, my mum had recently lost her mum and was coping with enough. I never wanted her having the added upset of worrying about me at school. So for 4 years I endured it, the constant pokes beside me, the tugging of my hair, the tripping over down the corridors.
At school I felt a victim of a system I had to get through I know I am not the only one it has happened to.
I learnt on leaving school never to put myself in a position when I don't have a choice to walk away.
I saw an incident last night in the chat rooms and I searched for a op in the end I asked a friend who I knew was in the pool to ask if anyone had a contact for a op as one was needed. The argument then when back and forth for ages other people joined in and nasty things were said.
I did wonder why the people that it was aimed at just didn't walk away but stayed being hurled abuse at and then hitting back. Eventually an op was located and the situation dealt with.
In situations like these I would have walked away not given the abuser the satisfaction of a response. In the years of my children using the internet I have told them the same thing.
Some people in life it seems get pleasure out of feeling in control of others.
I guess over the years I have learnt to take no notice, it isn’t worth my time or thought when someone wants to try and intimidate me, I have better things to occupy my mind than to have such people have control of it.
I do however feel that calling it cyber bullying has diminished the physical pain that some of us had to endure when we had no choice within the situation we are in.
I personally don’t see it as bullying and have told my children this over the years it is I believe cyber intimidation and they can only try and intimidate you if you allow them to. You have a choice block, delete them or walk away form the pc.
When I was a little girl a man across the road used to keep homing pigeons.
He told me he use to take them out into the country let them go and they would come home.
My question is, how do these birds know where home is?
Do you have a question you have always wondered about?
I have only encountered Neil in the forums, I was told about this sad lost in the chat rooms having not ventured in here for a while. I always looked forward to what Neil had to say over the years. As others have echoed he made me laugh, ponder, Smile and learn with his words and skill in writing. I was totally shocked and moved when I heard the news about someone I had not even met but feel I had got to know just a little bit from these forums.
What a lovely person he was, such a sad loss.
My thoughts and best wishes are with those that knew and loved him.

I thought football was supposed to be a civilised game played by civilised people. I haven't watched the game for years now as it changed into breeding fame and fortune. While money is the driving factor behind football the players in the eyes it seems of supporters and clubs are gods to them, it seem anything is tolerated if a player is part of your team.
I would have to ask them, don't they have a individual conscious and basic thought on our treatment of other humans. Would they react the same way if their children bit another?
For me I would apply the same principles but we can make allowances on age of child as they have to learn what is right and wrong.
As a parent I am pleased my children are old enough to be disgusted when they saw the actions of this player. They said he should never be allowed to play the game again. Young children watch the game and look up to these players.
For anyone to try and make allowances for such behaviour for me raises a question, would you be or are you allowing your young children to watch and admire these types of players?
I thought part of being a civilised human was our conduct towards others.
We teach our children not to bit others, how can anyone have seen what happened and try and defend a grown man from doing it?
I only saw it on the news and I thought he didn't even look human doing what he did.
If I had my way I would never want him to play for any club in my country.

I'm not sure who you refer to as making allowances for and trying to defend Suarez , as I'm certainly not.
I was not pointing a finger at any one person, my comments were general as these forums appear away from just sh. So anyone reading my comments and feel the punishment of a Man biting another is unacceptable. I believe a ban isn't even enough. He definitely shouldn't be playing football where contact with other humans is part of the game.
After all football is a game, which should never result to biting.
Nobody deserves to earn that type of money but to earn it and then feel you can bite someone and then moan you are unfairly treated with a ban and others back his claim, he should be stripped from playing the game completely is my view.
Football puts people on a high pedal stall where they think they can get away with anything. It is about time attitudes changed and such behaviour should never be tolerated is my view.

15 years ago my twins who were 11 months old somehow came into contact with measles, first one was hospitalised in an isolation, she was lifeless and had to be drip fed as she never woke up for a week. It was awful seeing your child so ill. A week after having her back home her twin was admitted it had gone to his lung causing his stats levels to drop so needed to be on oxygen.
My children were to young at the time to have had their MMR then they were giving the MMR after 12 months, but many parents at that time were wanting to opt out of the tripple vacination being given to their child. In doing so put my children at risk.
Those parents should be taken to see how really ill children are with measles.
At the time I had to have environmental health officers come to my house and confirm they had actually had the disease. It is a reportable disease and they told me at the time, they were seeing an increase then because people were opting out of giving their children the MMR.
I felt then and still feel now, that other parents are not just putting their children more at risk by not having the jab but other's children too.

I have to be honest and say that I fail to see how Baroness Thatcher can be blamed for the closure of a mine three years after she left office.

Have you ever heard of the chaos theory?
Decissions made can ripple down for years to come before calm appears again. I think this country has been rippling for years since the Thatcher era and its impacts are still feeling felt today. Prior to Thatcher people never lived on credit for instance. It just wasn't the way people lived. We are all still feeling the impact of thatchers time. It had many known on effects in my view including both parents having to work. Before Thatchers time many mum's never worked full time.
People would blame woman's right but many woman wouldn't make that choice. Many have had to as there are no affordable housing to rent or buy.
The only people I believe that gain from her are private landlords that have book loads of properties and control the rental price.
People would always say thatcher has long gone, but I believe we are still living from the legancy she created. I don't think she meant it possibly to go the way it has.
I think in many ways she sold this country down the river and we are still drifting on the wages and under currents that she left.

A number of my "friends" on a well known social networking site are celebrating her death...
How very sad that someone should feel that the right thing to do...

Steve, I think you are absolutely correct. No person should celebrate the death of another. It is barbaric.
I never really liked the Lady but I agree totally with your words barbaric Trev.
People that feel that way are just as bad as the person that causes such hatred in my eyes.
For me a great Politian should be known for uniting a country together, not dividing it.
They should have a long term foresight not a short term power gain.
It seems Thatcher won the short term power gain as many see her as one of the most powerful Politian’s in this country.
Long term foresight tells me she had short term aims. I also believe she wreaked the chances of another woman becoming MP. As there hasn’t been one since.
There are far better Politian’s that have helped in trying to uniting this country than Thatcher ever tried to do.
For that reason I don’t think her funeral should be paid from the tax payer’s purse, she earned her wages at the time doing her job and should have saved like the rest of us to pay for her own funeral.

What is the £53 for ? Is it just for food or all bills ?
I am presuming this has been in the news recently but i havn't seen much news for a while so must hve missed it !

Here you are.

I don't see anywhere in that link that tells me what the £53 is for though sad
I have no knowledge of what benefits there are hence my question.

Hows that? It seems he would have to live on that after housing costs which I presume means rent and rates.
So things like gas and electric and food and travel to the Job Centre every week, would be paid out of his £53.
I could probably do it for a week or two, but it would be tough. It is all well and good though IDS saying he could do it, but could he do it for months on end like so many do? If it was that easy he would put his fat money where his even bigger mouth is and take up the challenge. He is now horrified to see the online petition crawling towards half a million people, and remember it only needs to spark a Commons debate.
Come on Smithy........
I have highlighted the bit in red as I believe if the job center is to far to walk to, you can ask if your claim day can be done online. You can also claim back any fares for job interviews by communicated with your job center.
I don't think however you are entitled to claim for fares for a trip to town to meet friends for a pint. So proof it is an actual interview would be needed.

We are seeing even now the tyrants in Iran with their veiled threats against Israel.

Why do you think they are threatening, if indeed they are, as I said in a previous post the words were taken out of all context.
Quote by starlightcouple
We have in recent days seen North Korea issue threats against the USA.

Again, why are they threatening? what is behind it all?

You really think these people will sit around a table? What about Syria now Rogue? Will president, Bashar al-Assad sit around a table and talk peace and negotiate?

Of course. Just how you go about it.
Quote by starlightcouple
What a ridiculous analogy you made in your opening statement. Sometimes the bullet and the bomb are the ONLY way.

Pathetic macho posturing fills pages of the daily mail with images of body bags, we need to learn why the bullet and bomb are not the only way.
Quote by starlightcouple
Will sitting around a table with North Korea help then Rogue?

Of course it will, ignorance of the other parties grievance is no excuse for a confrontation.
Such a naive way of looking at the world and it's problems. I think I would rather politicians make the decisions now for sure.
I believe we are all still evolving in life as we become more educated about the world around us people being able to communication more open and freely. The world has changed considerably since the introduction of the internet than ever before in history.
I think enough lessons in life have been learned through death and destruction and the way forward is to listen and learn.
I think leaders of some countries want to hold onto power and control for their own best interests I think the more free minded and open countries have learnt many lessons and we should continue without bombs and guns and killing innocent people that are actually send to fight your battles if you believe that way is the best way. I would always ask myself why you never joined up and put your life on the line for what you believe in.

and what you say about the Irish SS Battalion appears to be true and I freely admit that, I just find it a shame on here that people dont read the forums to learn or give their knowledge for free, they use them to find mistakes then go on and on about one fact ignoring the threads aim, this thread is no longer about WWII and therefore does not interest me anymore, I hoped when I came back that the forums had changed, that they were no longer the witch hunt place they had turned into, I was wrong.
The forums started to die, the only new topics were the fun topics, 3 word stories and what you think of the person above, serious debate was dying here and I know why. I was wrong to come back another error you can make the weeks discussion topic.
I admitted I could be wrong I can't do more than that.

Hi Mids,
I have highlighted two points you raised.
I find it a shame as like you I believe we should be able to have a decent discussion or debate on subjects that interest us on a public forum many here have helped educate me on things I never knew in the past.
I am always happy to give my opinion on things even though I know others will not agree with me. I would also defend my opinions if they are based on personal experiences of what I see.
Mids you don't always have to be right in life seems you and I know that.
So I would ask you not to stop posting as I will run out of peoples posts to read when I come on here to learn something new. Which I then often go off and start researching to learn more about.

What did you think of the link minx?

It reminded me I am getting older but not yet old.
I don't want to become old as I have a theory.
As time moves on we have more time to gain knowledge and understanding.
With knowledge and understanding it is said comes wisdom.
My theory is, Wisdom just means old, grumpy and cynical.
So I have made a pact with myself, not to become old. wink

So I never read it GNV, it is worth me doing so then?
You can do it quietly if you prefer... Doesn't have to noisy , just turn the sound down wink
But yes, I think you'll enjoy it.
I turned the sound down and now can't hear you GNV, could you repeat that please? :P flipa
I thought it was funny you asked my opinion on the link. As often you say to me on here I have confused you with my postings and they don't make sense.
If you value my opinion that much though and would like my opinion I shall take a look in a while. I just thought it might be another wind up to be honest and I have other things I am doing like working. lol
I just have a thought while washing up lol
The animal right activists could spend their time in a far better and constructive way.
Rather than protest outside our schools, they should be working to get inside and helping to educate our children about vegetation and nutritional value it has to offer to give children a balance in helping the children decide for themselves.
I don't believe you can stand and preach being a vegan and want to stop others stop eating meat if you don't help educating our children with alternatives.
Just my opinion of course and one I believe the government should act upon.
As we don't want children believing all vegetation and fungi is good for you as we know some can kill you, unlike horse meat.

Your becoming rather a boring elderly person now GnV.

If you can remember half of what's in link you have to be old...
By the way, it should be 'You're' not 'Your' :jagsatwork:
I thought it was "you are" unless you want to be lazy with the English language.
I have never really understood that it makes it easier to remove an a and replace it with an apostrophe to join two words makes it any easier in the English language.
It just causes more people to use "you are", "you're", or your out of context.

These things run in cycles minx.
Occasionally, you get another new regular poster along who contributes well to the forum and we all benefit from it so keeping them turning over with drivel sometimes works.

It is funny GNV as Nellie was making a point and the only two who brought her/him to bear and questioned her/him about their comments are you and star, you both must feel guilty about something as names were not suggested. lol
Sorry minx. I don't follow your drift.
Its ok GNV many people don't, you are not alone.

It's true. We saw the pictures of a 'light dusting' of snow and that people we trapped in their cars for hours on end!
Then we compared it with images on the telly of the real stuff that fell in Brittany and northern France where they were well prepared for it and there was little, if any, drama.

I have often wondered why this happens, do other countries use different tyres or road surfacing materials to what the UK uses?
Maybe other countries have better grip on the top surface or on their tyres just an idea.
might be why they are better prepared.

I believe these animal rights activists don't have a clue about the psychology of children. My children went to a farm and helped raise baby lambs for a week.
It was a night mare when they came back as they decided they never wanted to eat lamb again. It took years to get them to try it again and they really think about eating it first.
So the fact that these so called animal activists says the teaching this way is making the children see the pig as a lesser being than them is totally wrong in my view. It is in fact in my experience making them think the reverse to what they are stating.
I think people with such diverse views should not be allowed to try and influence in our children's education and all children should be taught these basic facts about survival and let them decide then if they want to eat meat or not.
I believe in animals being protected from cruelty but I think they have lost the plot in basic survival and being cruel represents. I think everyone has a right to choose if to eat meat or not, children should be left to know the facts and make that choice themselves.
I would love to see all schools take on this form of education. The children all need to know where meat comes from and the process to the table.

What is it with you lot ? Snip snip at each other, for goodness sake dont you have anything else to do in life but have a go at each other ?
So boring and so sad !!

It keeps the forums alive...
Use it or lose it.
I disagree with you GNV, It might have done years ago with the odd heated slanging match it used to draw people in. What goes on now is different it is constant nitpicking in almost every thread. It is a reason I stopped posting ages ago and making threads.
It is also why I have stopped writing recently. It really does seem nobody has much interest in what others write here they just wait to pounce on people they can poke at.
So I bid you all good luck in trying to keep these forums going.
