I've been to Xanadu's a couple of times as a single. I would say there is no pressure at all for the couples and that the single guys are very respectful and some seem actually rather shy. Being in central Manchester is perfect for a night out if you rely on public transportation. Best time to go is probably the party nights (last saturday of each month). As a couple you don't pay membership so it wouldn't be expensive to give it a try. We could share a drink or two.
