This true story happened in the summer that Charles & Diana married. I had taken a week's leave with two friends to work, as unpaid volunteers, on a private steam railway. With my friends working the steam locomotive I was to be Guard/TTI/Signalman. (A TTI is a Travelling Ticket Inspector). This particular line is around 6 miles long and connects with another attraction at its northern end so making a reasonable 'circular' tour for coach parties such as schools and the 'blue rinse brigade' as well as ordinary holidaymakers. The day in question was a hot, sunny one and my task was to walk the train checking tickets, selling the odd one and working the signalbox at the northern end of the line to allow the locomotive to go to the southern end of the train for the return run. It is a strange habit in some ways but most school children enjoy pulling all the blinds down in their compartment especially if there isn't an adult with them, thereby missing the beautiful countryside. So it was on this particular day that I came to a compartment with the blinds down, slid the door open as I said in my usual way "Tickets, please". Except that this time all I said was "Tickets, pl.. oh, never mind, er, enjoy your ride" and slid the door shut. Its funny how we can see something in the twinkling of an eye and that snapshot sticks in the mind for many a long year. I was greeted by the sight of a young man, probably in his early twenties, who was sitting on the very edge of the well sprung bench seat cushion with the undone buckle of his belt nearer his knees than his waist. His girlfriend, a late teens brunette with glowing, shiny hair that flowed in long locks over her shoulders and down to the curve of her breasts; a blouse that strained somewhat unsuccessfully to retain a large pair of beautiful, rounded orbs as several buttons had become detached; a shortish tartan skirt that was probably just above knee length but that surrounded her so that not an ounce of nether-region flesh was visible, was sitting astride him facing his face. On his head were quite unmistakeably - her knickers! Her breasts, unrestrained by a brassiere and almost free of buttons, were deliciously rounded, bronzed and her nipples were doing their best to puncture the last of her blouse... On this particular railway the first half of the journey is uphill and a steam engine's chuff produces a short forward motion followed by a slight gap so that the effect is of pull-slack-pull-slack etc - a jerky movement..! The effect of the engine, the sprung seat and her own bouncing was caught in my mental snapshot. She was in mid bounce of her own as the engine pulled up the hill and as I slid the door open and said "Tickets, pl.." they both looked round, startled. He blushed a deep shade of scarlet but she just smiled at me. I didn't have the heart to disturb them further so finished my statement with "..enjoy your ride!" When we reached the terminus I had reached the end of the train and got out to collect the token and key to the signalbox from my two friends on the engine for my next duty as the tide of humanity from a nearly full train jostled and hustled their way past to the next part of their own adventure. Trailing along towards the end among the stragglers was a couple one of whom wore a tartan skirt! As they drew level he flushed an even deeper shade of maroon and she smiled sweetly with a naughty grin, let go of his hand, threw her arms around me a gave me a wet kiss, poking a salty tongue between my lips before whispering in my ear "I thought you were going to join us.." Before I could think of a reply, and as I came down from my own cloud nine, my two friends on the locomotive wolf whistled. With tartan skirt swirling and the wave of a girl's hand the young couple melted into the mass of humanity - and were gone! I hope they enjoyed the rest of their holiday for despite searching every train I never saw them again...
