She has served this country brilliantly for well over 50 years, and just on that alone she should have peoples respect.
She has served this country for longer than most people on this site, have even lived for. THAT is why she deserves respect...I will not bother to explain anymore than that....simples.

Exactly.
But on her passing the opportunity should be seized to remove the anachronism that is royalty.
I have respect for the Queen, but none for those that expect to follow her.
The queen hasn't/doesn't serve this country....it's the other way round

Bow or curtsy without a doubt but....only to the Queen.
Our Son is part of the Household Calvary and the traditions are there towards the Monarch, as they are the Queens bodyguard.
Anyone who does not bow or curtsy to the Queen is showing disrespect, in my opinion.

Has she earned your respect?
Jury's still out here; I have a great deal of sympathy for the woman, but respect? You have to feel sorry for any mum who sees three of her four kids end up divorced and who has to pretend to one of her grandsons that he's really related to her when he's not, but respect?
which grandson isnt related to her ?

You decide.
that photo is hardly enough evidence to prove jh is harrys father tho !
from what i can remeber from harry looks like his mums brother smile

I have and I think you talk a load of rubbish at the best of times, but to show such flimsy rubbish is even pushing your own arguements to laughable levels.
Yes I would show her repsect, but then nowadays a lot of people would not know respect if it crawled out from their arses.
In my book she is the Queen and what her kids do has no bearing on that at all...you seem to have gone off topic here.

Ooohhhh, ad hominem from Kenty - my life is improving immeasurably....
I spent two or three months in Japan. Bowing is just part of the day, and I got into the habit. I know I never got it right, but I was only a foreigner, so it never mattered.
I still give a nod sometimes, at the right time. Well, it may be in Japan. It's strange perhaps, much of the time I get a nod back.
Would I bow to the royals? Yes I have, but never too deep.

My view on the monarchy is that it is the last vestige of an age when might was right. Their wealth and position has been achieved by being able to form bigger and more powerful armies than their competitors, then seizing power and wealth by force.
Thankfully, these days the monarchy is merely an anachronistic tourist attraction, though I'm not blind to work they do in fostering international relations.
I had dinner with the queen once - she was pissed and in a bad mood, but I'm sure she's not always like that

Lucky it wasn't Victoria then "Off with his head!"
The Queen Mum was famous for her Gin and Dubonnet (or three) cocktails before dinner, but I seem to recall that The Queen is as good as teetotal dunno
The word respect is bandied around a lot......my parents taught me that respect is something to be earned not demanded....so the old bitch Brenda can go fuck herself

My parents also taught me in very much the same way and to me respect can be, even if one dislikes some one, that one re-frames from unnecessary rudeness towards ones piers lol

Your parents taught you correctly.
That is why the Queen should have respect as she has earned it!

Nope - she tucked in to the G&Ts straight after the parade, champagne cocktails before dinner and was noticeably slurring her speech, and generally in a foul mood all afternoon

I don't know if it is something to do with my military background and all of the traditions that go with it but I would definately dip my knee and curtsy to the Queen no doubt about it.
It may seem a little old fashioned to some, but many people could learn a lot from our elders, respect being one of them!!

Could the military background be some thing to do with people's views? my Dads Dad in the Navy and may Dad in the army? Plus living near a military base?

A supposed to being the son and grandson of socialists who did more for people where they live than any great granddaughter of a German economic migrant?
