This was originally a thread about teachers. Please refrain from making offensive remarks about people. Using derogatory terms for different nationalities is not funny and all posts are covered by the AUP, even those apparently written in a jocular manner.
Thanks.
Well that's killed that thread. lol

i am sorry to have offended you nola.
my post is about teachers, schools, colleges, universities and all other manner of educational institutions. if you read all of my posts on this thread, you will know that i am not being funny. if you read my previous posts, some over a year ago, you will find that i have explained in detail that regardless of which political party was elected, that the present austerity measures would be adopted.
you would also find that i am not only not a racist but that i am distinctly anti-racist and anti the mainstream propagandised muslim demonisation that has created an atmosphere of fear towards differing cultures. using derogatory terms for different nationalities in such an obviously backward stupid manner exposes just that. which is my intention.
finally, having initially always responded to threads specifically on subject and whilst probably contravercially (hope thats spelt right) and objectively, there are people on here who constantly and deliberatly divert the discussion away from the issues raised with personal criticism of the individual or the grammatical construction of text. once again nora. sorry. there was no intent to offend anyones culture, colour or credd. quite the contrary.

I'd like to see children actually spend a day at school. School hours have been steadily cut since the '60s. What's wrong with lessons starting at , 10 minutes morning break, 45-60 mins for lunch, 10 mins afternoon break and finish at
Yes, teachers would have to be there from 8 and leave about 5 - welcome to my world, people.
They also do not teach every period (in a well organised school) and can use these non-teaching periods for preparation - or use TA's for that instead of as low-cost stand-in teachers. It is up to the school to ensure the lessons can be prepared - but it's not like every lesson is unique, prepare once - use many times.
cut ????? have they??????? our littlun (11) leaves the house on his bike at every morning.....then theres after school clubs??
he doin 9 hour days already!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lessons (as far as I remember from my son's school) started after , well over an hour to get all the kids through lunch and ended by Plus a morning break - but no afternoon break. After school clubs are fun not lessons and not part of the curriculum so they don't really count as part of the school day. But I applaud any school that provides them - they are great for the kid's to enjoy.
I think your little'un would appreciate a little motor on his bike. biggrin:D:D:D:D

I know plenty of teachers who would disagree with that statement. Some rewards are hugely more worthy than merely financial gain.

 Many of my pals are teachers.
They arrive at their schools between 7am and 7:30am. They leave anytime from 4pm onwards. When they are doing after school clubs (not forgetting pre-school reading programmes) they are often there till much later. That's certainly equivalent to an 8-5pm shift (or it was the last time I was using my staff scheduling software wink) They then come home and, after dinner, start working again. Marking, lesson planning etc can add another three/four hours onto their working day.
I've heard the 'plan it once and use it forever' argument too. It doesn't work like that: not only do course specifications change but the groups they teach do too. A good teacher does not operate a one-size-fits-all lesson approach - therefore the lesson plan & resources they used last year with group A on topic Y will need completely re-writing/re-thinking for group B this year.

well come september, they are in fact not gonna get well paid enuf more. (those that will have a job)
I know as we all do that there are some incompetent teachers, but also some very good ones that do a very difficult job, dealing with unruly kids.
So I for one clapped my hands for the teachers and common sense, that this is now going to be made law.

Teachers in many circumstances need all the help they can get, dealing with little shits in their class rooms.
Hopefully this will make their lives a litle easier, when they are trying to do their job.
I know from my sister's experience (TA in a Midlands Junior School) that there is far too much scope for some people (who happen to be teachers) to spend their working day swinging the lead while others (who also happen to be teachers) work hard to produce effective and interesting lessons.
I think (and have thought since I was at achool myself) that it is simply too hard to get rid of teachers that do less than thay shold and therefore damage children's education. OK, we can get rid of teachers who hit children, but teaching is a skill, a hard one, and those that simply can't hack it or don't care are damn near impossible to kick out.
Is there not a shortage of qualified teachers?

yes ben, there is not a shortage of qualified teachers. there are too many for the education budget to pay for. as there are too many firemen, too many paramedics, too many doctors, too many nurses, too many home helps, too many on benefits and so on and on and on.

The lack of professional leadership and coaching in many schools is a real problem; it means teachers aren't properly managed or developed, and it's one of the key causes of school failure or under-achievement. Just like any business, if there's inadequate leadership and coaching people coast.
what about incompetent school kids? there must a few of them about to make the teachers look worse than they are?

Can school kids really be incompetent? Or are the teachers failing to engage them?

well sadly if they come from a long line of incompetents and go on to do the same in adult life, one has to consider inherited incompetence as the logical conclusion.
