many currently accepted "real" illnesses were initially met by the same disdain and disbelief..and are today treated clinically...I'm thinking depression, post natal depression, etc...
so I wouldn't dismiss it so out of hand.
that said, I have little love for most of the psychobabble and consequent lack of self esteem and of "solve it" attitude...it seems to me that way too often we call for "professional help" as a cheap way of getting of our arses and face the music.
and way too often the so called "experts" are talking rubbish and looking at charts instead of at the people they're supposed to help
I agree that probably the "clip around the ear" school of handling things should not be totally dismissed as violating the child's right and being abusive.
there must be a breaking point where pampering and "gently nudging" and standing firm and acting decisively must meet, if parents are to give a child a fighting chance in the world.
Its been around for years and its not the bollocks the dailymail feeds us. Its a way of trying to understand why some kids behave, not excuse behaviours.
I must take the chance to give you an idea of just how cynically the Daily Mail breeds hate in the UK. Recently they ran an article about how some health authorities offer accelerated health care plans for travelling communities because sometimes, by the time they get an appointment they have moved on. In thier usual spirit of Hate the daily mail ran an internet poll asking "Should Gypsys Get To Jump the NHS Queues. The poll was noticed by folk who could see it as the hate campaign it was and once the poll reached 95% in favour the Mail pulled it and mentioned it not again.
Rememeber the old saying, you are what you read.
Seen it so many times before...
The Pensioners will get to the end of their tether, call him names and the problem will be resolved as the Pensioners are taken off to prison for abusing the little scroat.
It does exist Kentykins, I find myself overwhelmed by it every time you post.
:P
It is just another excuse to experiment on children with mindbending drugs. This lad has managed to get himself a reputation at an early age in a very rough part of the country, they have made up a diagnosis, and will no doubt begin his "drug therapy" real soon.
What will it be this time? Maybe stimulants like Ritalin or Dexamphetamine. Or maybe they will give him the chemical Cosh with varied doses of Chlorpromazine (Largactil®), that will certainly make him quieter. Or they could try Lithium, used to treat mania. Then there are hundreds of different tranquilisers and anti depressants.
I have met a lot of people with problems, and they are all led to believe these drugs are the answer, and helping to line the pockets of greedy pharmaceutical companies.
The lad's new illness will lead him to a new life of misery, and an early death.
The problem is Kent you always comment without finding out about the subject you have taken to heart.
If you took the trouble to know things before making prejudicial assumptions you wouldnt casue quite so much offence so often. I tir eof pointing you in the right direction since once your prejudice is established you seem incapable of taking on board any new information.
Thank you for the response Kent.
I value your opinion even when it is misinformed and wrong as it is in this instance.
Its not new.
Its not an illness.
The mother and the mother alone seems to be excusing the childs behaviour on the basis of the label being used.
kent, dude, I might have worded it badly, but the phrase you highlighted in my post was actually fully agreeing with you...
You are right, most people exhibit some of the beahviour described. The label exists to describe people for whom it makes life a misery.
It isnt done to excuse anti social behaviour. It is only the likes of daily mail and the small minded who seem to need to use these words to engender hate rather than to seek understanding.
At least the Daily Mail has the excuse of wanting to sell newspapers to the small minded.
Actually your day to day behaviour on these forums makes it highly likely that you suffer from a personality disorder-but i repeat, that doesnt excvuse them..
In terms of hate, what do you think the purpose of the original article and your post was, it certainly wasnt love consideration or understanding was it?
I see these kind off kids everyday when i'm at work(i'm a london bus driver). They have zero respect for anyone or anything, theres always someone willing to make an excuse for them
little jonny did'nt do well at school, little jonny did'nt have a father figure, little jonny had cheap trainers, etc etc.
How about, little jonny's a bloody nightmare because he has been brought up by parents or parent who don't give a shit.
