Can I just remind posters that we have many catholic members here, please have respect for those members who may not post but read this forum.
This is what the thread is about for those who've forgotten.
Just seen that the head of the Catholic church in England has said its right that the tax payers should foot the £12 millon bill for the pope's 4 day visit!!!
Is it right should we foot the bill so the Pope can come see his flock so to speak?
The Catholic church is reputed to be wealthy if he wants to come why cant he foot the bill or part of it?

Well said anais.
I didn't see you taking exception to StaggerleeBB's post Kaz? dunno
I haven't seen Kaz state in this thread she has taken exception to anyone's post? I fail to see the point your making? :dunno:

I'm making the same point that both Powers and Blue made, one of double standards.

Can I suggest anais that there are no catholic, muslim or observers of any of the less permissive religions here....if there are I would suggest that a few choice comments about their leaders should be the last thing for them to worry about....there are a few confessions to be made by members that would have their priest foaming at the mouth.
My post was in part at least a joke...but mainly to point out that there are more important points that the pope needs to satisfactorily answer before we worry about a few quid spent on a visit

All religous organisations are full of hypocrites, not just the Catholic Church, but what i find hypocritical are the hateful/spiteful remarks of some of the posters here towards the Pope, but they would probably bend over backwards defending other religous groups/leaders deemed just as or worse than the Catholic Church,

I wouldn`t defend any of em .... the fact ....the plain and simple fact ....that the pope is presiding over an organisation that has been proven to protect pheadophiles and murderers is beyond argument and I wouldn`t defend any of the other wankers either !!
So if and when we get a visit from some highly placed Islamic leader that the taxpayer has to foot the bill for, i will expect the same offensive remarks to be said about a leader who may possibly encourage terrorism? or are we still treading on egg shells so not to offend non christians.

Where is the double standard,i posted according to the op,i thiink the forum in general would work better if people did that.
What Max is saying is if the comments that staggs had made, had been said my a certain other member, you would have been on him like a fly to shit...but as it was, you chose to ignore them remarks but still agreed with Anais, that is where the double standards come into it.

Absolutely........no doubt I will remind you of that

Anais you have been on this site long enough to have seen some of the comments aimed at me over comments I have made....let me see.
Islamaphobic....Racist...........bigot etc etc.
I have never called a Muslim a " cunt " on this forum and if I had, I can imagine the outcry.
Do not get me wrong I am an out and out atheist, so do not believe any of it, but I do see double standards here.
Maybe as the person who said the word originally is leaving the site tonight apparently, maybe he was doing it purely for effect dunno
Also yes I can see max's point. I can imagine SOME peoples reaction if I would have been the first to call him a " cunt ", and I do not like that word either.

I think you'll find I've already explained my post.....I think you'll find I wasn't the first to use the word in this thread......of course I was using it for effect..it's language you see you choose your words for as you say effect...or as I prefer to put it, I say what I mean.....the current Pope has a chequered past to say the least...the previous incumbent was in many ways an admirable man (though I disagreed with him fundamentally )and gave the sense that he was above and beyond his duties to the church a caring human being who had some degree of forgiveness and acceptance about him....things I feel are notably lacking in the present Pope.....so you see I was talking about the man not the job....I would have no problem with you or anyone else calling a muslim a cunt...as long as you are talking about just one man...but you do tend to generalise about these things.....see you have a tendency to talk of 'these' people as if they were all the same and never in a complimentary we having read your opinion about 'these' people reach a conclusion based on this generalised view...if one generally speaking objects to muslims then islamophobe is the correct one generally speaking objects to foreigners particularly those of a different race then racist is the correct one generally speaking refuses to give any credence to an opposing opinion..even so far as to ignore any valid argument in favour of a disparaging sneer, then bigot is the correct 's just language you see...words....they have when put into sentences and used to express opinion a habit of revealing you
Even though I do not like the Muslim faith, or any other faith come to that, I have to admit this is a pretty good sight.

I bet the Pope wishes such things happened in the Catholic church?
For myself I have anever had a problem with an individual's faith/sprituality. It's when people decide it needs to be 'organised' and that 'they' are somehow in a position to dictate other's faith and demand payment for same, that the trouble starts.
Having read this thread with some interest, I take it we are all absolutely clear on the fact that it was the British Govt wot invited him, several times, to the point where it would have been rude to continue to say no, aren't we? He's not invited himself?
The fact is, the British Govt has invited him as a Head of State, and on that basis the British Govt is somewhat responsible for his security, in the same way that they would be responsible for Head of State's security. The pastoral thing ain't really here nor there.
Neil x x x ;)
Why? What on earth posessed the UK Government to invite him? Since the exposure of his actions and inactions in his previous role (is there any reason to think he has improved his attitude in provate since he is still preaching hate and ignorance in public?) he is a security risk at best and an unwanted alien at worst. Will they be inviting Mugabe next?

This a three year old link but I think this may answer the question.

Apparently there are over four million Catholics in the uk.......more than enough reason to invite him I would have thought?

And the visit is supposed to cost £12 million. So that's £3 each - go for it. biggrin
Well it will appease the Catholics over here I suppose.
Still a damn sight cheaper than the poxy Olympic games, which will run into billions and I did not ask for that either....in fact I wish they would have had it in outta Mongolia rather than here in the UK.
A waste of money if ever I saw it.
I'm all for free speech but there has to be limits.
This is going nowhere and is offensive on many levels so I'm locking it.
