Where exactly does one get the figure of 10% from?
Or is that the figure who may or do go to church?
Because as far as I can remember nobody has asked me or my wife or my Daughters or anyone else I know, what their beliefs are so how they come up with these figures of " accuracy " baffles me.
The fact is Davey there are many instances of either flags being banned, or a certain religion only being allowed to partake at Alton Towers two years ago etc....or are they all made up like the 10% figures you have quoted?
These things are happening and it may well be isolated, but the mere fact it is happening at all should be a major worry.

Davey...I like the place you live in but it is not always a nice picture like you would paint it.
This is a fact...
A mate of mines wife is a supervisor at a pre school nursery.
In December 2008 she was told to ask all parents IF any of them objected to a Christams play being held there. Her directive was so as not to upset any parents that shall we say, did not follow the Christian faith.
Not one parent objected but....the mere fact she was TOLD to ask the parents, leads me to believe that there ARE hidden agendas abound from local councils.
If it happened at this pre school, you can bet a years salary the same directives were issued amongst the other pre schools in the borough.
Or are you possibly saying this was purely an isolated case?
IF religion was banned...you know what? This world would be a much better place to live.

I am saying that "a mate of a mate of a mate" tales are rife about this. But when asked to show substance to the allegation...........there isn't any. Not even a little bit. Unless you care to show where this ban came in and what "directive" was issued? It would be political suicide as they would lose 10 points at the next election.

2001 census where 0.7% declared they were a Jedi
Or is that the figure who may or do go to church?
That declare they are practising........some reports go as high as 18%

You must not have filled in the 2001 census then

No flags have been banned. When and where? Not displaying it on a flag pole is non-traditional and to have a flag pole you need planning permission..........that is the law......or do you not want to obey that one and just complain what others are doing/not doing
These things are happening and it may well be isolated, but the mere fact it is happening at all should be a major worry.
They are myths..........and scaremongering works marvels for those trying to push for discontent

Davey are you really saying that the census is an accurate reflection of life?
Yes I filled out the form but she brought it back because I left out the nationality bit, where it said British.
I find the census a liberty to be honest, that is my thought on it. So I like no doubt many others just put any rubbish down...hence your Jedi figure.
I really do not think those figures are as accurate as they would have us all believe, in fact I would say a lot of it is pure fabrication, but then that is the cynic in me.

They are the only figures that show a snap shot of our time in Britain......so they are the only "reliable" figures we can go on.
But hold your hand up time for me.......I can't remember filling it in either......or if I did, whether I was a Jedi Knight lol

May the force be with you. wink
People come here from other countries as refugee / asylum seekers or immigrants. They could be from anywhere or of any race, so lets get this clear before Mr Bean accuses me of being a nasty "wastisth or nartsi". But they do come here to this tiny crowded island with it's failed economy and record unemployment, and think they can do whatever the fuck they like. I've traveled to other nations on other continents and I wouldn't dream of taking the piss, not even for a one week holiday let alone permanently.
I'd like a Viking funeral, and I am not even sure I can have that here, but I wouldn't even ask if for some reason I thought I was going to end my days in India.
As Ben pointed out earlier, when in Rome!
I'm about as English as you can get. My family has been traced back gazillions of years, and it would appear no one shagged anyone without a staffs accent.
I am not a christian.
Why should the fact that I just happened to be born into a country where christianity was the dominant religion have a bearing on my life?
...and from there...
a third generation Pakistani is born in the UK. Why should it have any bearing on his?

I agree, because like you say he is a third generation Pakistani not an English person. Having spent most of my early life living among people from the Indian sub continent and subsequent generations I know for a fact they have no desire to be identified as English. But then you read the in the news about those who have been arrested abroad for things like smuggling drugs, all of a sudden they do want to be English. Anyone who believes multiculturalism is working in this country is walking around with their eyes shut, not that it is just here or just us. Governments all over the Western world have been exploiting the fact that people from poorer countries are prepared to give up everything just to come here and work hard for next to nothing. It is not their fault they were brought here under false pretences, temporary labour shortages should not be filled by immigrants on low wages, you give people from foreign climbs work permits and a decent wedge.
This is all the fault of greedy business men and phoney politicians.
The queen who is still head of our country, is head of the church of England.
She is the most important figurehead we have.
Until such time as our Royal family cease to become that, then a Christian country we are.
I am in no way religious but there are still some things which remain English through tradition.
Why do so many people deem it fit to try and change that after countless years, just so as to benefit a few minorities?
Once our long standing traditions are lost, they will never come back, and it will be yet another slippery slope down to Britain being nothing to do with Britain anymore.
Most countries want to keep their traditions and history and their culture, but we are now way too tolerant a country, where minorities seem to think they can change a way of life that we have had for generations.
Long may the English traditions stand, and if people do not like those traditions...then move somewhere else....it really is that simple.
Its actually not a very pleasant thing to see or do. During the film of the Ghandi burning you see a guy poking a long pole into the fire. That's to crack open the skull before it explodes............

I'm playing devils advocate here...
Are non-christians really a minority in the uk?
Should the perhaps ten people in my village who go to church on a sunday take precedence over the 100-odd who would rather not be woken up by the inane tintinnabulation? (Purely an example)
And...if I were to move somewhere else because I didn't like it...wouldn't that make me...an immigrant?
I love this debate...
