Well it seems that crime obviously does pay.

That is one of the reasons I never ever give to beggars, and my advice is never give to anyone begging in the street.
A poxy 100 quid fine?
Where is the nearest tube station? lol
If people want to help then why not give to the charities that help on the ground instead. Giving to the individual will put the money in the drug pushers pocket.

Good suggestion, or buy the Big Issue. If you get to know the sellers you would spot any new ones just picking up spares to sell for drugs. The genuine sellers are clean and sober - they have ot be or they don't get to be sellers.

Yes Davey have to agree.
I never give to scroungers and beggars on the street.
Whenever I see people doing that my first thought is...." go and get a fucking job ".
But why should they when they can scrounge off of decent people more money than they would earn working?
Plus it is relevant if the scrounger is also claiming benefits, or can he scrounge now as long as he does not scrounge for more than 16 hours a week?

She has a fantastic manicurist! Those nails would look much better in a rich red though lol
I haven't read the article and won't - media always pick up on the negative no matter what or whom its about.
As for street people - I have to say I haven't met a nicer bunch of polite people. Take the time to get to know them and your rewarded with a smile/good morning/help if needed etc You get the odd ones who aren't very nice but you get them in all walks of life.
Some are begging for money that is used for drugs yes, I won't depute that. Many aren't tho!
Some of these guys/women's life stories are horrendous, they die young and usually alone, its rare for anyone to attend their funerals, nobody picks up their ashes - they aren't missed! The funeral service is a few minutes and first on the list at 9am - if nobody turns up its a few words and the button pressed, forgotten forever. If they are in a hostel - not even a staff member attends. Most of the time any family they have don't know they have died. We have had 12 deaths in the local hostel this year - if it was a care home it would be investigated. Because they are street drinkers/users/big issue sellers etc its ignored!
We have a number that work voluntary with us doing odd jobs etc in return for being treated with respect, tea on tap, lunch, and to feel accepted and a part of society. They are a few rules, don't turn up drunk, stoned or with a can/bottle of drink etc. It keeps them off the streets doing something worthwhile and they turn up on time, normally before I'm in confused :?
Some truly want to turn their lives around and aren't always given the opportunity because they are seen as the dregs of society.
Don't write them all off because of one headline, they are some good people out there! Next time you see someone begging - smile and say good morning instead of walking by!
Food for thought Anais. Its good to be reminded.

Blimey nearly cried in me cornflakes.
Perhaps you should get someone to blow on the hot milk for you if you manage to hurt yourself while eating cornflakes...............or was it the sharp edges dunno

Anais,
Hi Kev here,I read this thread with a growing sinking feeling, the usual knee jerk reactions to those who have already hit rock post was a beacon of humanity .
To those who could never imagine themselves in this situation, neither could most rough one starts as a child thinking i want to be a drug user, prostitute ,rough sleeper, victim of assault.
Whether people give money is a personal decision,i do, but giving respect costs nothing.
I will now return to keyboard to its usual owner!

Totally with ya on that one

Yeah some things are hard to swallow!!!
:thumbup::thumbup: When I worked with the homeless, our local CAB got post codes allocated to park benches solely so that homeless folk could get basic health care.
