A uptoday version of love sensation by loletta hollowway is a fantastic june, thats covered by black black box ride on time, another 80s hit
Did anyone see The Killers version of Shadowplay on the NME awards last night? And what about Primal Screams' White Man In Hammersmith Palais?
Not from the 80s, but cover versions all the same, just thought I'd mention them
I love 80's music, but probably not the sort of music most people remember. I have always been a bit... odd...
As for modern cover versions... and I want to see if anyone can name the original artists on most of these - and see if you can't guess my favourite artist ever and start to critisise my taste based on this list...
Nine Inch Nails - Dead Souls, Metal, Memorabilia,(You're So) Physical
Marliyn Manson - Tainted Love, Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This), Down In The Park
Foo Fighters - Down In The Park
Girls Under Glass - Down In The Park (Ok, ok - it's just a favourtie song, ok???)
Damon Albarn - We Have A Technical
Hactually, apart from those, covers of 80's songs don't really work very often. Nothing can touch the orginal versions of, say, Human League songs without sounding really stupid because the actual songs were daft - they just sounded good delivered by Phil Oakey and a bunch of synths. They can't be redone.
I am rambling. This is normal.
do we have a bit of a Numan thing going on here?
lp
I adore Gary Numan. And Soft Cell / Marc Almond equally. I met Marc at a book signing and almost fainted. I wanted his babies.
Well the 80's was for Level 42, Spandeau Ballet and ABC
Just a brill decade
bloody e'l, softcell forgot all about them too, who was the other guy with the skinhead, sang johnny, tell me why and I forget the rest of his songs. I know a few of his songs have been covered lately too. Ultranate wasnt 90.s it was mid to late 80.s
