A uptoday version of love sensation by loletta hollowway is a fantastic june, thats covered by black black box ride on time, another 80s hit
Did anyone see The Killers version of Shadowplay on the NME awards last night? And what about Primal Screams' White Man In Hammersmith Palais?
Not from the 80s, but cover versions all the same, just thought I'd mention them
I hated the 80s music with a vengeance though a couple of bands caught my attention such as Depeche Mode, Tears For Fears and REM. I found a great band called Nouvelle Vague who covered some really great songs such as Bela Lugosi's Dead and Marion but in a very different way. wink

I found a lot of their music very depressing confused
Otherwise I loved the 80's! biggrin
Frankie goes to Hollywood, Duran Duran, Madonna, Prince, the Pretenders, Spandau Ballet, Def Leppard, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Crowded House, U2, INXS, Guns n Roses, Bon Jovi, Simple Minds.....
loved it all!! :bounce:

best thing to come outta the 80's
me bolt
seriously tho wham and culture club are still classics
My fave cover verion from the eighties is Pet Shop Boys "Always on my Mind" smile
I love 80's music, but probably not the sort of music most people remember. I have always been a bit... odd...
As for modern cover versions... and I want to see if anyone can name the original artists on most of these - and see if you can't guess my favourite artist ever and start to critisise my taste based on this list...
Nine Inch Nails - Dead Souls, Metal, Memorabilia,(You're So) Physical
Marliyn Manson - Tainted Love, Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This), Down In The Park
Foo Fighters - Down In The Park
Girls Under Glass - Down In The Park (Ok, ok - it's just a favourtie song, ok???)
Damon Albarn - We Have A Technical
Hactually, apart from those, covers of 80's songs don't really work very often. Nothing can touch the orginal versions of, say, Human League songs without sounding really stupid because the actual songs were daft - they just sounded good delivered by Phil Oakey and a bunch of synths. They can't be redone.
I am rambling. This is normal.
do we have a bit of a Numan thing going on here?
lp
I adore Gary Numan. And Soft Cell / Marc Almond equally. I met Marc at a book signing and almost fainted. I wanted his babies.
Well the 80's was for Level 42, Spandeau Ballet and ABC
Just a brill decade
bloody e'l, softcell forgot all about them too, who was the other guy with the skinhead, sang johnny, tell me why and I forget the rest of his songs. I know a few of his songs have been covered lately too. Ultranate wasnt 90.s it was mid to late 80.s

Ultranate... 1991 - present date
Free was out 1991, I know I was pregnant and spewing to the tune one night!..
Not wanting to split hairs lol
Blimey - what a load of good memories...I used to DJ at a Blitz/New Romantic club in the 80s so I've got loads of stuff from then.
Talk Talk; Sisters of Mercy; Bollock Brothers (I kid you not); Flock of Seagulls; Fashion; Gina X Performance; The Fall; New Order; A Certain Ratio; OMD; Classix Nouveux; Visage; Japan; Ultravox (pre-Midge Ure); ABC; Simple Minds; The Tubes; Devo (particularly "Whip It")...
Might have to dig some stuff out later on, blow the dust off and get em spinning.
Incidentally, Nouvelle Vague have a new CD out with some more covers. Search for "Bande A Part"
shameless plug too - I'll be running another Pop Quiz in the chatroom soon (original post here: http://www.swingingheaven.co.uk/swingers-forum/viewtopic/117311.html). Lots of 80s questions.....

Aaah the new romantic era, Adam and the Ants was the look wasn't it? correct me if I'm wrong, was it the long frilly sleeves and general attire that gave the new romantic it's name.
Can anyone remember "the Hitman and Her" usually on a Friday night back late 80's early 90's?? cool
I used to hate 80's music, I was a teenager in the 90's and thought the 80's were crap! lol
However, I love 80's music now and talking of cover versions I have actually done my own cover version of "Forest" by the Cure. It's actually quite good.
I like Madness, and of course you only have to see my Forum name to work out my Ultimate Fave lol

Think your talking about more than one person there? wasn't Johnny sung by Fine Young Cannibals? and tell me why was Jimmy Somerville aka Bronski Beat/Communards?
